Avoid, avoid

Went to look at cars here, found one we liked a BMW active Tourer. Took it for a test drive and found something very wrong with it.
Took it back to them, who said their workshop would look at it and they would call us 4 days later no call, we called them, guy pretended not to be the person we spoke and then couldn't hear us.
Just avoid them, save yourself the heartache.

Unacceptable Silence and Significant Personal Hardship

I am writing this in the hopes of finally getting a response from the directors at Mendip Autoserve. I purchased a vehicle for £9,950.00 that turned out to be unroadworthy and dangerous. Since formally rejecting the vehicle, I have been met with total silence—no replies to my emails and no acknowledgement of a formal Letter Before Claim that was delivered and signed for at their office on Saturday, May 9th.
​The impact of this silence on my daily life has been massive. Because the car is unusable and there are no viable public transport links to my workplace, I have been forced to start walking at 6:00 AM every morning for my 8:00 AM start, and then walk the long distance back again after my shift. This has severely flared up a pre-existing knee condition and scarring, causing significant physical pain.
​On top of the physical toll, the exhaustion from this daily commute means I’ve been unable to work my usual 44–48 hours of monthly overtime, which I have the payslips to prove. My partner is now having to sacrifice the use of her own car just so I can get to work, which is putting an incredible strain on both of us.
​I have a full evidence bundle ready for the County Court, including GPS logs of my walks and documentation of my financial losses. It shouldn’t take the threat of a judge to get a business to do the right thing and refund a customer for a faulty vehicle.
​I sincerely hope a director sees this and decides to resolve the £9,950.00 refund before this escalates further on May 24th.

BUYER BEWARE
This company should be avoided unless you want to waste your time.

The car advertised was Volvo XC60 advertised with a full service history. It had a high mileage and therefore it was reasonable that I should ask questions.

Communication was appalling. Phone calls, emails and WhatsApp’s all taking hours if not the following day to reply to.

I was told the timing belt must have been replaced as it it had been inspected and found to be in good condition. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge knows that timing belts fail without warning when they haven’t been changed.There was also no record of the Haldex being serviced.

I didn’t negotiate on price, I simply wanted the service items to be bought up to date.
I then found the MOT history which stated the milage was higher the that advertised. Admittedly not by much but there was an inaccuracy and we agreed a new MOT would be provided.

On the face of it the company did everything I asked

I then confirmed by email the conversation that I had already had with Joshua that we had agreed to buy the car and my son would pop in the following morning

Make no mistake… we had an agreement.
The car was the removed from the website. My son phoned the following morning as agreed to confirm the time and he was told it was sold. At first he thought they meant to him but no!

After complaining JOSHUA then sent the following drivel of an excuse!

“I understand your frustration, the team proceeded as no sales order was active by yourself. I understand Chris, I do apologise for the situation.”
I WAS NOT ASKED TO COMPLETE A SALES ORDER …. However I asked in my confirmation email if any further information was required!

“A gentleman came in unplanned yesterday and took the car away same day. The sales exec who processed his order did so by process. Kaylin and I were the ones dealing with your enquiry “

ABSOLUTELY OPPORTUNISM!
INCOMPETENCE BY WHOM ?
The sales exec, Kaylin or Joshua?

Dig deep before buying a car from this firm. I suspect the other buyer did not and that is why the car was sold.

Purchased a car from them in August…

Purchased a car from them in August 2024 and have had nothing but issues with it since! Sold with a hole in the turbo which luckily I managed to get them to sort through warranty, and this year it's been in the garage two/three times for other things that have gone wrong. Honestly if you are thinking of using these guys for your next car - DON'T!!

Have been absolutely scammed by mendip autoserve. I brought a nissan xtrail after my car was wrote off.
Financially being single and having 2 children i needed a reliable car this has not been the case !!!
First 2 week's of having the car i returned it with a knock (suspension was loose) they claimed to have sorted it. Next i needed a new battery as wouldnt start refused to help, 3/4 months later the cluch went at around 79000, I then had to replace start motor, fly wheel and belt, again refused to help. To now find out the turbo needs replacing. I reached out to mendip who failed to take any responsibility

Poor customer service

My husband saw a car he wanted to buy from mendip.autoserve garage contacted this company to reserve this car and made an appointment with salesman to view test drive and purchase car he paid £99 on his credit card to reserve this car when he travelled to see the car a few days later which was an hour and half round trip their and same distance going back home he was told by the salesman the car had been sold as you can imagine my husband was gobsmacked disappointed and angry. When he challenged the salesman stating he had paid and why had the car had not been reserved as agreed on the phone the salesman called him a lyer until my husband produced the proof of his payment. The salesman backtracked and blamed his staff and he didn't even apologise for this inconvenience to my husband instead he directed my husband to a similar car that was one thousand pound dearer. When my husband asked the salesman if he could buy it less than asking price which was around 200 quid the salesman refused. This company has poor customer service. Are rude unhelpful and do not apologise for their mistakes it is very disappointing so I advise potential customers to not use or purchase a car from this garage it is discusting the way they treat people. Even if the company had contacted my husband in the week before he had made the journey and apologised and said the car had been sold even though he paid a reserve fee it would of been disappointing but curious never buy a car from this company and judging by previous reviews we are not the only ones who have been let down by this car company.

Worst car dealer I have ever used in my 40 years of motoring to give them the benefit of doubt they are completely incompetent and just buying cars on the cheap adding a profit and selling them on without carrying out any presales checks or repairs which means you are possibly buying a vehicle which has faults and to add insult to injury when it does go wrong they either do not have the knowledge to repair or are purposely carrying out shoddy temporary bodge fixes in order to get rid of you until your warranty runs out at which point they no longer care about you or your purchase. I cannot stress how strongly I advise you to avoid this dealer as I said at the beginning this review is giving the benefit of doubt without which - well you decide, buy from a dealer where you can turn up unannounced and are free to look at all of their stock, don't be taken in by the speel I should have known better

Be careful when Buying

Be careful when buying, Had the car not even 4 months and the clutch has gone and they refuse to do anything about it (its only 1 week out of warranty) Now got spend nearly £1000 to get it fixed

Worth the 250 mile round trip!

It was well worth the 250 mile round trip to buy a car from Mendip Autoserve. (And receive a very fair part exchange our own vehicle!) So easy to do business with. It made the whole process of buying and selling a pleasure. So different to buying from a big garage consortium - we genuinely felt the care that was given. Not many car salesmen would instruct you, with a smile on their face, to go home and buy some polish to keep the vehicle nice and shiny! We felt the love!

Avoid! Take your money elsewhere

Wish we read these reviews before buying a car. My advice is absolutely avoid!!!! and take your money elsewhere. Car ended us costing an additional £1000 to repair. Avoid, avoid avoid!

Attempted on many many occasions to contact this seller ('Gary') regarding cars listed on his website for sale. Tried emailing and contacting through the call back service on his website. Never get a response! Don't waste your time, look elsewhere. Having seen other buyers reviews I'm glad I did not waste my money with this business.

Paid £6000 pound for a vehicle which didn’t last 6 months. Concerns around the reliability of information provided in relation to cars history- timing belt/MOT. I appreciate that’s the risk you take when you purchase a second hand car, but absolute shamble.

It is now new year and I served gary a recorded letter to which no reply so now have to follow up with next step as had some good advise and have pictures to prove timing belt not new and car is getting road tested 6th jan as sold me a car at 175 bhp and turns out the car is more than that it has been mapped so just beware if buying from gary may as he not doing any home work on cars simply picking them up at auction and giving them a wash and polish and sticking 3000 on them and sitting back and enjoying a nice life style told me timing belt was done turns out it's not and has no e evidence of job done and wen contacted old owner he has been killed in a motorbike crash so car sold with full service history and when you check all history it is has part and only part proved on book gary and also on add it says 175 bhp and it is mapped to 1stage and is of 210 Bhp confirmed on the 6th jan so advertising is wrong gary so I await your reply and hopefully we can clear this matter up and I can with draw my trustpilot review and take you as the person I met and was more than welcoming to me when I handed you my card and you with drew my 10650 into your healthy business account again I await gary or director mr Tom day contacting me to clear this matter up I say again that on 6th of January more cost to myself of 60 pound to find out what bhp my car is when Gary's advert tells me it is 175 Bhp why should I have to pay to find out what bhp it is gary and his company directors should make this a point of doing more homework on their cars they buy in also waiting on reply from him to tell me who will be warrantying the car as his warranty company have voided my car so really he has sold me a car with a gold warranty as he put it when I handed him 10650 in one transaction with no warranty I await your call gary and hopefully it's not to long as this is out of my hands now and going down another route but would just like gary to honour his honesty and produce timing belt proof or replace and his warranty is well when claimed it turned out a fiasco of a company anyway in my eyes not worth the paper written on was a fight to get a electrical problem solved what would it be like if you had serious problems I am fair and hopefully mr Tom Day and Gary are as fair and can keep customers happy and end this saga you have my number Gary
