AVOID IT

This is a huge waste of money and your time, they truly - as mentioned in the reviews before, only want your money, the course sucks, the tests are meaningless.

The gyms are terrible to work for, you'll be better working on your own, if you're able to sell.

Do something else in your life, and if you care about fitness, study it but don't waste your money on certifications like this,
all of this is only sales - for meaningless courses.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!
I regret joining this company with everything. They are quick to help take your money but if you change your mind, they are IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of and super rude. They have a 7 day return policy so it's impossible to have made up your mind by then. I got sick after joining and they want documentation that almost near impossible to get before you're able to cancel and they still can reject that. Im in tears because this is the worst experience I've ever had with a company in my entire life!!!!!!

Bad Business, promise to give me a refund and I have yet to get it. From reading other people's reviews I see this is how you run your business. If I do not get my money back, I am going to BBB.

I purchased the AFAA group exercise certification packet, found out that their AFAA group exercise certification is no longer accredited, the sales rep did not share that information with me. When I found out, i requested my money back, they said I had to wait 15 days before they could credit my money back, needless to say it has been 15days and I still have not gotten my back. When I requested my money back again they said I needed to wait 15 days. I don't have money like that to just give away. This is BAD business!!!! I will continue writing reviews until I get my money. I am mad and angry at company who does not HONOR their word. I can not afford to give money for free. Not only did you not share that you lost your accreditation, but you didn't honor your word in reference to my refund.

I paid for five courses

I paid for five courses, have written proof from their team, and after multiple follow-ups over email, calls, and chats, no one is responding or helping. This is not what I expected from NASM.

RUN!

Avoid this company at all costs. Sales reps are quick to answer when they’re taking your money, but once you’re a customer, expect hour-long hold times, rude agents, and zero help. There’s a huge language barrier, and the reps are condescending and refuse to escalate issues. My account has been a mess for months despite paying regularly. They care more about selling than supporting. Horrible experience — I would never recommend this company to anyone. Best to use a different company for your personal training certification because this one has gone downhill completely.

HORRIBLE Management

I had a horrible experience with customer service, specifically with Kenya Williams. I explicitly requested a call from a member of the Executive Office, but instead, I was contacted by Kenya, who is a member of lower management and not a member of the Executive Office.

Kenya was uncooperative when I expressed my desire to speak with upper management. Her dismissive attitude indicated a clear lack of concern for resolving my issue. Kenya has earned a grade F.

I made it clear that I did not wish to speak with her and requested that someone else contact me. Moments later, I received an email stating that no further attempts would be made to address my issue.

Due to this unacceptable response, I will forward my complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and I have engaged my attorney, Gregory F. Hauser, to handle this matter moving forward. Expect to receive a letter from him, or feel free to reach out to him directly.

Best,

Christopher Baker

Stay away

Was somebody who suffered from dyslexia? I sent a mini doctors notes stating that I just need to read my test out loud they said that they would have a decision after 42 days. It has been four months and I still have not received a decision therefore I cannot certify therefore I cannot work as a personal trainer. This company is the biggest waste of money.

If I could have rated zero stars I…

If I could have rated zero stars I would have and I'm sorry I didn't come here to read the reviews of NASM last year before a pushy sales person convinced me to purchase a very expensive bundle which I'm still paying off monthly. If you are considering NASM courses, I highly suggest that you find another company to get certified through. NASM is a scammy company that just wants to take as much money as they possibly can without providing customer support or what they originally promised. I was sold a very expensive (over $2k) which included CPT, CNC, CES, and PES. I explained to the sales person that I was entering college to become a licensed massage therapist at the same time and should probably just do one course at a time but he pushed so hard making it seem like I was saving money by purchasing the entire package. When I graduated this year in February, I was able to start really focusing on my NASM courses however by March my PES exams had disappeared. I paid the extra fee to get them back for a year but just yesterday my entire PES course was removed. The only notification I received was a voicemail left on my old phone that barely works. I tried several times to contact NASM via phone and email but received no response. I used to think that NASM was the top of the industry for fitness and sports professionals but now I know I was sadly mistaken, they are in fact nothing but a scam company with absolutely no customer service. They aren't in the business to create quality fitness professionals, they just want your money.

Promised Free CEU Access, Then Quietly Changed the Terms

I received an official email from NASM stating I was being “gifted free access to the CEU library for a full year” as part of a transition in the Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC) renewal process. There was no mention of expiration dates or eligibility limits at that time.

I tried to log in and access the CEU library — but couldn’t. So I emailed NASM support directly asking for help. I received no response.

Days later, they sent a new generic email quietly changing the eligibility rules, now saying only people whose CNC expired less than a year ago qualify. This contradicts the first email and feels like a classic bait-and-switch. If I hadn’t saved the original message, I would have no record of their initial promise.

This isn’t just about a certificate. It’s about trust — and NASM completely failed to uphold that. No accountability. No follow-up. Just changed terms and silence.

Considering how much I’ve already invested in their programs (CPT, CES, CNC), this experience has left me questioning the value of their credentials entirely. Based on other reviews here, I’m clearly not the only one. Be cautious before committing to anything — especially if you're expecting support, transparency, or long-term value.

To make matters worse, I’m still receiving marketing emails from NASM about paid programs like NASM One — even though my support emails have gone completely unanswered. The fact that they can send promotional material but ignore legitimate policy concerns is deeply frustrating. It shows where their priorities are: pushing new sales, not supporting existing customers.

Terrible experience, waste of money

I signed up for NASM’s personal trainer course in May 2024 after a very pushy sales call. The rep made it sound urgent and pressured me into committing to the lowest possible payment plan for a program that costs nearly $1,500. Unfortunately, I never ended up using the course — I only ever opened the intro page. Life circumstances changed, and I’ve been unemployed for some time, yet I’ve still been making payments on something I never used.

Now that it’s been a year, I’m outside their refund/cancellation window. I get that policies are policies — but what’s frustrating is how little this company cares about individual circumstances. I never completed even a single module, yet I’m out nearly $1,000 for absolutely nothing in return. When I reached out to customer service, the rep I spoke with was dismissive and rude, and the supervisor wouldn’t even speak to me. No flexibility, no compassion, no willingness to work with me.

It’s clear NASM is more interested in locking people into contracts than actually helping them succeed. If you’re considering this program, think twice — once they have your money, that’s where their interest in you ends.

I regret purchasing the NASM wellness…

I regret purchasing the NASM wellness coach certification. If I could, I’d rate it zero stars. It was an expensive investment, only to discover that the materials provided are incredibly out of date. Attempts to contact support went unanswered. Furthermore, the exam date was moved up by a month without notification, and now I have to pay an additional $200 to take the exam late. While part of that inconvenience might be my responsibility, the entire certification process failed to enhance my knowledge. It's merely a pathway to obtaining a printed certificate without substantial learning.

Horrible experience

I regret not reading these reviews before signing up for the NASM PT certification. My experience has been so poor that even one star feels generous. No check-ins or progress evaluations throughout the program from someone from NASM - this lack of support contributed to me missing the six-month window to take the practice exam. Despite that, I paid 200 bucks to take the exam from home with a proctor after my missed window. What a stressful and disappointing experience that was! Disconnected from the proctor resulting in going through the check-in process again only to find out that the actual exam questions were so different from the 40+ practice tests I had taken on their website where my passing rate was around 80%. No periodic check-ins about my progress with the proctor during the test to make sure I am doing all 120 questions in time. I spent $800 and still don't have a certificate. On top of it, extremely unhelpful customer service who only repeated their policies instead of helping me out with my problem. What a disappointing experience - DO NOT SIGN UP!!!!

1st of all ZERO STARS should be an…

1st of all ZERO STARS should be an option or perhaps Negative Stars.

I have filed a BBB complaint against NASM and at this point realize that their certificate with its ridiculous recertification and continuing education requirements for the sake of money, as well as the really terrible lack of job placement means I don't care if I pass this test. i do not care at this point and warn others to just go to a college and get a real degree in nutrition or sports medicine. Do not think being a NASM or other certified trainer is glorious or will make you successful, well known and or respected.

On with my BBB Complaint as I have posted below.

My exam had expired which I never knew from day one that my access to taking the CPT final exam would expire within 180 days of purchase. Not once did anyone tell me this during the sale, disclose it to me in writing, it never appeared as an alert or countdown within my CPT online training nor did anyone Email or text me with automated messages telling me it would expire.

Life got in the way and I needed to delay studies and thought I had until 2029 which was the expiration date on the main page of my Course portal.

Upon discovering that my exam options had expired I called customer service who then told me the only option was to pay a $199.00 fee to renew the Final Exam?!

From the beginning I have regretted signing up for the NASM program. The material is bloated, doesn't relate to any real world scenarios, does nothing to prepare client/trainer interactions or does it provide any real world programs. Their OPT Model is a cookie-cutter, one size fits all style which most trainers I've talked with said they would never use as it is demeaning and fails to account for a multitude of variables.

I would like to finish this course becasue they will not refund me my tuition at this point and I DO NOT want to pay a $199.00 fee.

I will not recommend anyone to use NASM when you could get a better education at a community college or other online schools.

NASM is interested in your money and getting as much as they can, they are not interested customer satisfaction but only when their companies image is exposed.

NASM Simply Doesn't Care

I bought the All Inclusive CPT package thinking that having a guided work study experience would be beneficial.

First the CPT course. The content was mediocre at best. If you've read any comprehensive exercise manual or text book all of the content is review. The study guides for the proctored exam do not line up with the exam questions at all, but thankfully due to my past education experience was still able to pass relatively easily.

The worst part is the "Gymternship". There is virtually no communication from NASM. I received an email saying I would be placed sometime in the next two months, and then out of the blue a very disgruntled employee from a local gym called me for an interview in which he spent half the time complaining about previous interns, and the rest of the time trying to dissuade me from this career path. Needless to say, I thanked him for his time and informed him that I was not interested in this "opportunity". Went back to NASM and was like, "Hey, this was terrible. Can I get a refund for this experience." NASM's response: crickets.
