Great service

Excellent experience overall using the Safestore branch yesterday. The staff member David was friendly, informative and genuinely helpful. Easy access units and good value pricing.

Friendly, professional staff at Reading store - it was lovely to deal with humans - both on the phone and at reception. Thanks to China for her telephone advice and to David who helped on the day when we came to sign the contract and when we cleared the unit. Would definitely use again!

I recently used Safe Storage Cow Lane and I can honestly say the service was excellent — largely thanks to David.

From the moment I first made contact, David was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful. He took the time to explain everything clearly, made sure I had the right unit for my needs, and ensured the whole process was quick and stress-free. Nothing felt rushed, and he was more than happy to answer any questions. It’s rare to find customer service that genuinely makes you feel valued, but David absolutely delivers that.

One thing that really stood out was his help with quote matching. He was transparent, fair, and did everything he could to make sure I was getting the best possible value. On top of that, he went above and beyond managing availability for larger storage units, keeping me informed and working hard to secure the right space when stock was limited. That level of effort and communication made a huge difference.

The facility itself is clean, secure, and easy to access, which gave me real peace of mind about leaving my belongings there.

The only small area for improvement would be the trolleys — they could definitely do with an upgrade or better maintenance to make moving items a bit smoother. Aside from that minor point, everything else was spot on.

Overall, a fantastic experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Safe Storage on Cow Lane — especially with David there to help!

Probably the best experience I've ever had trying to get a quote for anything. Danny was really helpful. He took time to understand what was really important gave me a few great options. I decided to go with Safestore as a result. When I reached the Reading store there was an issue locating my quote. I found yet another Danny (store manager this time) who did everything he could to make sure I was set up correctly. He clearly knows his stuff.

Had to sort out a locker in a hurry so reached out to Safestore and my request was immediately jumped on with help and within 24hrs had the locker set up as needed. Day of moving stuff in Dan and Poppy on the front desk were accommodating and professional as well as being helpful above and beyond. Very impressed with the level of ease and customer service from this branch, would recommend.

I only wanted a quote. Then I got multiple calls emails and text messages daily!!!!!
I have the quote, I will bare it in mind. I also have your number if I require your services! I don't appreciate the constant harassment for business! People should be able to get a quote without getting hounded like this!

Reading, Cow Lane - Terrible customer service, unit repeatedly locked for due date payments, today, a full 7 days after payment was made, it is still double locked, again..
apparently it is standard policy to lock a unit on the morning of payment due but its not policy to accept complaints when they repeatedly "forget" to remove it AFTER the email due notice and subsequent payment made. It is not the same policy at other self storage companies, it is only Safestore that believe they have this right to lock your personal belongings away for "failure to pay" on the MORNING of the DUE date, which i feel, is insulting and unnecessary, especially when they have a habit of forgetting to remove their lock even after payment has been made!
Vastly expensive comparitively to other self storage companies and very very poor quality unit conditions too. S
Site management is abysmal, turn over of stafg high and the 'know it all' cleaner and the helpful comments continually made, are not appropriate or welcome and yet again, nothing has been done about that either, despite it being reported.
I called the 24 hour out of hours "emergency service" at 23.48. It just rings out and no one is there to answer your call in an entire 2 hour period, (00.54) with a call back number left on an automated service, no call back recieved. Some "emergency" service. Another useful tool they claim to provide but do not.
My internal unit, in a large block, is damp, poorly lit and extremely cold. The only maintence that appears to be done, is continually repainting the concrete foors. There is no form of climate control, which has caused items to have mould grow on them and subsequently become ruined.
I have, of course, bought this to attention of staff several times, despite promises, nothing has been done about it.
Save yourself time, money and annoyance by renting a shipping container at the fraction of the cost compared to Safestores 24 hour access, 24 hour customer service sham.
Ive been a customer for 15+ years, not through choice, but an unfortunate turn of events which landed my property in storage. The situation has been made nothing but worse by the incapable staff, ridiculous unexplained price hikes and horrendous unit conditons leading to multiple items that have been lost to damp damage.
The management should be ashamed, especially of Reading Cow Lane!
Ive complained to local and area management and literally nothing has ever changed as the simply make it abundantly clear, they do not care.
Avoid Safestore Self Storage at all costs! Its not value for money, the 24 hour access is a sham, the customer service is non existent & they WILL increase your rental as they see fit.
There are much better managed, nicer, cleaner, climate controlled, secure, 24 hour modern facilities available in the marketplace. I emplore anyone seeking self storage, do your research. The facilities in Safestore Reading are not up to standard, nor modern, nor well managed.

I submitted a request and Jason reached out immediately to understand what I was looking for and to suggest the best options, explained the insurance to me and did a really good job. 10/10 experience.

They are also very well priced compared to competitors in Reading.

Danny Carlyon was excellent, best customer service I have experienced. He was so kind to let me know the cheaper and more suitable option for me and my storage needs and walked me through the entire process ensuring that I had clarified any doubts I had. because of him, I am choosing to book a room with safe store.

Thank you Aatish Avaghela for answering so many questions regarding storage at the Reading site. You made my day much easier and now have several square feet of of relief from my worries.
