I paid Allied Van Lines $7,680.74 for an interstate move and am now dealing with roughly $16,000 in damaged property. If I could go back in time, I would gladly pay the same amount just to have Allied not touch my belongings and move everything myself.
I gave specific instructions about how my LEGO displays and protective cases needed to be handled. Those instructions were not followed, and they arrived extensively damaged. My Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair, which cost approximately as much as the entire move, was also seriously damaged, along with numerous other belongings. There were also cockroaches associated with the delivery.
The experience after delivery has made this even worse. I filed a claim and was instructed not to repair or disturb the damaged property until it can be inspected. I have had to call repeatedly trying to get the process moving, and I am still waiting.
At this point, I have so little confidence in the claims process that I am not even expecting to be compensated. I simply want someone to come inspect the damage and make a determination so I can move on. If the answer is no, tell me no. I can deal with an answer. What I cannot deal with is being left indefinitely in limbo, surrounded by broken belongings that I have been instructed not to repair.
I understand that accidents can happen during a move. This was far beyond one accident or one damaged item. The extent of the damage, ignored handling instructions, pest issue, and lack of urgency afterward have made this an experience I would never repeat.
I wish I had read a review like this before choosing Allied. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend them, particularly if you are moving valuable, fragile, or difficult-to-replace belongings.
