American Songwriter Magazine Avis 

This year has been my first experience entering the contests. The initial entry instructions were clear and I entered a few songs. Fast forward a couple of weeks and I received an email indicating some issues regarding my uploaded songs. Turns out it was an error on my end. I corrected the errors, resent, and someone on their end sent me multiple emails confirming the new links were working. I was very appreciative of their efforts and it gave me further confidence that AS is trying their best to coordinate what must be a major job assembling all the entries. Well done!

I was skeptical about entering, since I have never done anything like this before. After entering, I received a email saying they received my submission. Then I didn't hear anything for what seemed like months. However, I just recently received an email telling me they couldn't open up my submission and I needed to resend it under a different format. They could of very easily skipped over me and never reached out to fix the issue. But they did. Which tells me that they are really listening to these songs. This was a huge plus for me. Jeff W. was very helpful and replied to my email once I resubmitted my song, confirming that they could now open it. I think this is one of the better contests and I'm thankful that they took the time to make sure my song was submitted correctly. Thank you Jeff W. !

They’ve been great. There was a problem with my song link for a contest and they were quick to communicate with me to make sure they got what they needed, and I got in the contest!

Very unfriendly return policy. Had to pay overpriced return postage, AND a restocking fee. It’s a #%!&$ t-shirt .. how difficult is it to restock?!?!

Total scam. I entered one year and never received an email or anything. No idea who won. I also ended up with charges on my card I didn't authorize. What I don't get is how they get away with using big celebrity names.

Pretty sure it's a scam. I paid for my entry. Sent off my lyrics. Didn't receive an acknowledgement email. No idea who won. When the contest ended. Thinking about it. How can you even judge a songs lyrics with no melody context. It could just be a good poem.

TOTAL SCAM Company; Fake Contests! Most important No Way to Cancel or Terminate "any" subscriptions or memberships that they magically signed you up for. *****You can't even delete your credit card information from their site!!!!!!!!! They take your credit card number for signing up for a 10 dollar contest then start charging you $27 a month for subscriptions you literally know nothing about. The only way to cancel was through my credit card company and that took a 4 month fight back and forth! ***BEWARE - Don't Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!

American Songwriter runs several contests per year. But you NEVER get feedback about your submission or even hear about who won! Yet they keep running more and more contests (The Lyrics Contest, the International Acoustic Contest, etc.) and they keep filling your Inbox with Adverts!
There are numerous complaints across the net about them, so save your $35 bucks and try somewhere legit..

I’m so upset. The wonderful Linda Perry posted that she is a judge for the next songwriting contest and apparently my dreams of impressing her are too far away. American songwriter not only charged my card multiple times, but I’m not even able to get 1 submission to send through. Please help me work this out! I want to believe that this contest is legit and I can participate, if only as a granule of sand in a land of stars.

**UPDATE**
Immediately after submitting this review my lyrics made it through and all charges were properly refunded. Legit the fastest response ever. Can’t wait to see what happens! Best of luck everyone!
