Ameritas/Spirit is the worst insurer…

Ameritas/Spirit is the worst insurer I've ever used for dental care under a PPO program. Paying $50 a month, I received practically nothing for standard dental care. The promised coverage of 40% for out-of-network care (50% in-network) resulted in me receiving only 8.5%. Basic procedures, such as X-rays and three fillings, cost $1,100 in the dental office. Spirit/Ameritas covered only $93.
Numerous calls asking for an explanation as to why the advertised 40% coverage turned out to be 8.5% yielded no results. Don't trust Ameritas and stay away from them.

Does not honor policy, poor service

Had coverage in effect. Took daughter for routine visit. Clerical / admin error on their side didn't show us effective at time of visit-- they said they'd fix it and I'd be reimbursed. They fixed the date, but did NOT reimburse me. After countless calls & submitting the required paperwork they still did not reimburse me. It just wasn't worth continuing the fight. Customer service on the phone was typically very rude and unhelpful (except for 1 person). Eventually I gave up as it just wasn't worth my time to get $200 back. I would NEVER recommend. This is exactly what gives insurers a bad name. They will give you the runaround until you give up.
UPDATE: They responded to my review below. I followed their directions and reached out again. NO RESPONSE FROM THEM.

I have Ameritas dental insurance worthless

I have Ameritas dental insurance. I needed some dental work, and Ameritas did their best to deny any and all claims. They stated the required work was cosmetic, which the work was not. I have called and called them, and no one there seems to have any clue. Worthless,

Ameritas is nothing but a pool of crooks and Liars, set up you manipulate and scam naive and ignorant clients … this Ametitas is an insult to any insurance business , what a trash . They’ll hear from me on social media bout their lousy business .

They don't cover what they say they…

They don't cover what they say they cover.I pay $23/month for almost nothing.Youll end up paying more for a dentist visit that what you're expecting. Don't let your agent sell you this crap.

Ameritas dental is a bad choice!!

I have been with Ameritas dental for 4years. I have paid them over $2000 in premiums during this time with only one claim early on which I figured they didn’t pay much on because I just joined. I finally found a dentist that I like, but was out of network. I was told they would cover 2 exams 2 cleanings, and their website says they pay 80% out of network for preventative care. They covered just 10%of the bill.I cancelled. I feel like this company is neither reliable nor responsible. Find another company or find a dentist that offers in-house discounts.

I purchased fake insurance! Ameritas took money but no coverage from any of these that my kids used!

I had started with Ameritas dental insurance that seemed ok. I called to see if my kids could get a policy for dental and optical too. No problem they said on phone. They got my son and his wife's info. I auto paid $120/month. Then when they booked thru their choice list for dental and optical they were supposed to be covered. Not more than hour later the optical cancelled. They never put a dime towards dental for my son either! I am requesting a refund for fraud insurance that I've paid over $500. I am also cancelling my policy. It's cheaper to pay out of pocket rather than be promised coverage when going to their network of specialists . If BBB can't help with refund for my children's fake insurance than I will try AGs office in their office state!

Bought vision insurance under impression it is better than buying direct from VSP, wrong, for more money I am paying for basic VSP when I went to in network provider and my out of pocket for RX glasses were higher than calculated with Ameritas Go straight to VSP direct and save your money.

Awful just Awful
they allowed me to make a Dental policy but then told me my kids had to have separate policies just for the number purposes but then tied it to my email and then we just couldn’t cancel. They just won’t let us cancel. They had to cancel yet it was under my email without ever offering me a chance to give them each of my children’s emails.
Worst customer service ever. should’ve read the reviews that all had one star and not a single positive thing about this company.
Legally, I think they have to reimburse us for part of the month yet they won’t so I’m reporting them to California Department of insurance for scamming and frauding people

Customer since 2015, terrible customer service

I’ve had America’s vision/dental insurance since 2015. I personally didn’t experience any problems with the dental portion and I have had cleanings twice a year.
Unfortunately the vision portion was not a good experience at all. It has never been easy for the eye doctors to get information or even find them in the network. Recently I had an exam and got new glasses having to pay out of pocket and submit receipt for reimbursement When calling Ameritas I was explained what to submit and given an email address. I was told I would received an email stating it was received, which I did, and told I would receive another in 2 days. If I didn’t, I was to call back. I didn’t get the second email, called and was told I needed to submit a claim form that they were going to email to me. The form was for a group coverage and I explained I was not in a group, just covered individually. They said they could not reimburse until it was filled out. I completed it, returned it and heard nothing for another week. Called again and was told I needed to submit it to a different email address, because I was not in a group!!! A month later, I finally got my reimbursement, well kind of, I received a check for $54…I had paid over $400.

Big scammers group

Img they are scammers group.i got vision insurance from this company nd never used the service since March i am member of it.But i did call today to check if i can get eye exam truly they are fraud.tgey sent my id card when i gave this information to eye med they could not see any information there with my last 4 social number.when i called ameritas.representative told me instead of ur last 4 of social we give number give them those 4.he told me that I would created new policy number nd contact them then he put me on hold for while after 6 mints he told me all set u can contact them now they can access ur information now nd give them last four of what I have member id last 4 instead of my last 4.and I called eye med nd I put those last 4 number instead of last four of my social security number.Now eye med could see my plan nd this plan if is different than what I have on my id card.so I am sure about that they are scammers.so please don’t get help from this company nd I am canceling my membership right now but before that I wanted to aware other people about that.

47k My Mom lost.

My mother purchased an insurance policy from them years ago and paid them 23k at the time to pay it if full. 20 years later they told her she had to start paying $600 per month to keep the policy. They then raised it to $1000 a month and told her she needed to send them $2500 more to keep the policy in force. The money was for my bother, who is in wheel chair. My mom sent them 47k for a policy that was only going to pay 55k and she lost it all. 47k is was she sent these people.

Ameritas has terrible dental coverage…

Ameritas has terrible dental coverage for individuals that purchase their product. It looks good on paper until you submit a claim. That's when you find out their payment standard is around 30% of what dentist's actually charge. So they say the cover a service, but then only cover 30% of the service because that is their payment standard. I purchased ameritas as a secondary insurance for some major work I needed done & the coverage has been so dismal, i will cancel it dec & advise no one to purchase it.

Not recommended insurance due to persistent claim rejection

I have had Ameritas vision insurance for about 2 years, through my employer. Both times I have made claims for frames and lenses, they have rejected the claims. They find all sorts of issues with your invoice/receipt, despite buying glasses from reputable vision providers. It's not easy to submit claims, as their website is dated and usually after you submit a claim, they block your access to it as well. I submitted a claim about a month ago and instantly I wasn't able to access the claims page. Another time they gray out the submit button so that you can't submit your claim. They use random tactics like this to make it frustrating to submit claims. This insurance is also just a reimbursement process as they are not really recognised as an insurer when you go get your exam done. You just submit a claim after you pay out of pocket, and if you're lucky, they pay you back.

They are the worst dental insurance…

They are the worst dental insurance ever! They first denied payment for a cleaning & exam. I had to call them several times to figure out why it was denied. I got a different answer every time. They eventually only paid $72 towards that claim. I am supposed to go in every 3-4 months for periodontal maintenance. They again are denying charges indicating they only cover 1 visit every 6 months.
I contacted them again regarding their response and they stated it was in my plan that they only cover this once every 6 months. They told me they would send me a benefits package and I should receive it within 7-14 days. I am still waiting. Cleanings used to be free but not with them

TERRIBLE expirience!!!!!!!

I am an english and spanish speaker. My expirience was terrible! i will be writing a review in english and spanish so everyone knows not to depend on this company!! If I had the option to give zero or 0 stars, I would give them. They are useless, they always take my payment from my account. I have been with you for 3 years. They promised to give me 70 percent and they don't want to pay the bill. I can solve the problem. They leave me on the line for a long time and hang up on me.

Dental insurance

Dental insurance - deducted premiums for months never a phone call, email welcome packet, only the monthly deduction. When I noticed the charges and called to inquire, they had a dental policy on me but I already had another policy. Someone signed me up and Ameritas was quietly deducting monthly
