They are absolute scammers. Subscribed without my consent. They deducted money from the card without permission - and they refuse to cancel the order and return the money.

Customer service was prompt and…

Customer service was prompt and informative. Was trying to cancel my subscription and spent a while on the page trying to figure it out myself before contacting customer support. They replied quickly and detailed how to go about changing/cancelling my subscription. I will say the cancel option was on the page I had searched but more difficult to find/not quite as intuitive.

SHADY PRACTICES - UNFRIENDLY WEBSITE & CANCELLATION!

1) 7/11-7/25/23: I had placed 3 orders as a new customer over a 45 day period & set up 2 semi-subscriptions. As I went to remove products & combine the remaining products into a single subscription, the website (athenaclub), populated & offered 2 discounts of $3 off & 20% off, both of which gave an error message & advised me to email customer support. Now the ONLY thing that didn’t work on the site was the cancellation & the discounts offered. So, I did exactly what it said & emailed customer support. I even included screenshots of the discounts offered as well as the error messages from each & yet, I received a response saying they would NOT honor either discount that THEIR WEBSITE offered. The discounts were emailed or from a different website or account, they were offered on their website but I’m told they can’t honor them since I was already receiving a bundling discount (of $1.17), on 4 products! I was super upset & immediately cancelled all my items, which I had to do 1 @ a time, took an hour or more & while completing that, their website offered me 8 MORE discounts ranging from $1 to $8 off & they ALL gave IDENTICAL ERRORS! This is obviously a way to keep customers from cancelling their products but they don’t honor the discounts so it’s QUITE SHADY & just horrible customer service & no way to do business! I emailed screenshots of all 8 discounts & the error messages & never received another response. If you don’t mind being deceived & treated badly by a company, the products I have purchased & tried, are actually nice (that’s why I gave 2 stars instead of 1), which is truly a shame. I’ve heard the razor refills are not the same quality as the ones that come in the razor starter kit, so I’ve only ever ordered the starter kit (2 of them) & I did enjoy the razors but the blades (in my experience), only lasted a single shave, maybe 2 but they worked & I didn’t get razor burn & I loved the cloud shave cream which I’ve continued to use with another brand razor with a better result! It doesn’t smell great but it works well & I have sensitive skin so that’s hard to find for me & probably helps that it doesn’t have a strong scent. The starter kits are only $10 & include the razor, a mount & 2 blades & the refill blades, a quantity of 4 is $22. I also purchased the creamy body wash in Rose Vanilla & I received the dewy body lotion in Grapefruit as a free gift for purchasing & trying new products. I do like the scents of both & they seem to work pretty well but nothing extra special & to me. Unfortunately, no product is worth the mistreatment I’ve experienced but just to be fair, the products aren’t bad, I did enjoy them & would probably still purchase them if this hadn’t happened & this review would be quite different if it weren’t for the shady company practices.

2) 7/28/23: I will most definitely reach out in attempt to resolve this but the last email I received from Athena Club was from a Molly, stating the discounts could NOT be applied due to me already receiving a bundling discount. I even replied immediately with no response & after I canceled each product & continued to receive discount offers & errors, I was very upset & then emailed again with the screenshots & NEVER received not a single response!

3) 7/30/23: I sent this review & response to the email given & I did receive a response… so let’s start with the screenshots of the discounts I sent to Athena Club (in order they were offered to me on their website): $3off, 20% off, $4off, $6off & $1off. Then they claim someone contacted me via email offering to fix this but that did NOT happen! So I finally receive an offer with a promo code for $4off, so not even the highest of the coupons offered but it is something. May be enough for me to order another product or so but not enough to make me feel like this wasn’t really shady & just a frustrating experience.

Not worth dealing with customer service

The products are pretty nice but at this point, I have tried to cancel on the website 5 times and every time I have, it’s crashed on me and doesn’t properly accept my cancellation. Finally I emailed customer service asking for them to cancel it and I didn’t hear back from them until getting an email asking me to update my payment for the next month of my subscription. The products are not worth how awful it is dealing with this.

Huge waste of money and HORRIBLE customer service

These are terrible razors and the customer service is horrible. I purchased a starter kit to give it a try and the handle is way too light, you don't have enough weight behind it to make good contact with your skin without pushing it down to get a close shave.
The razors are subpar and expensive for refills. They only feel like they are smooth because of the conditioning strip on the razor head itself, but I had to go over the same area 3 times to get a nice close shave.
The customer service is abhorrent. When you sign up initially, it forces you into an autoship. I asked them to cancel it with my original order literally hours after I ordered it (I actually started seeing real reviews about the product and had changed my mind) and they refused to cancel it. It hadn't shipped or anything yet either. I stupidly assumed that they had canceled the autoship like I had asked so I just shrugged it off and figured I'd give it a try regardless when it arrived. Fast forward a month later and I get a notification that 22$ was deducted from my account. Low and behold, the autoship was still in place and what would you know, they refused to cancel that order too and again did not cancel my autoship! Now I have a cartridge of terrible razors that I will never use that I paid way too much money for, and I still had to go in and cancel the autoship myself after all of that.
You also don't seem to be able to review anything on their website which is really sketchy, so I'm sure all of their 'verified' reviews are paid for. There's no way that people are leaving 5 star reviews for this company with what I experienced personally.

Athena is dishonest and has terrible customer service…

Athena has terrible customer service and a shady business model. Customers are not able to cancel their subscriptions from their account, only pause. I was charged for a shipment I did not approve on a paused subscription with no warning. No emails sent out leading up to a charge or shipment. Athena refuses to refund the unauthorized charge. Additionally you cannot remove your payment method from your account. The “remove” button is grayed out. You have to contact customer service and argue with them about having your entire account deleted in order for your payment method to be removed. Dishonorable and shady. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND.
They removed my comments on social media that I left on their page, sharing my experience.
Dishonest company.
Additionally, the razors are just not good. Nicks and cuts no matter how little pressure you apply. Initial starter back was decent, refills are of a lower quality.

Shady and scummy company

Shady and scummy company with awful customer service.
I placed two initial orders from them due to ads, one for the starter shaving kit and one for deodorant. Both took many weeks to even be shipped, then both were marked as 'delivered' on UPS's site - NEITHER ever showed up (and I have received many UPS packages at this address with no issue). When contacted, customer service refused to offer a refund because the packages were marked delivered, only offering store credit. Trying to give the company another chance, I took the credit and used it to purchase another deodorant. Unsurprisingly, it has been weeks without the package being shipped. Stay away from this company.

Shady and sketchy website causes surprise charges with no solutions

7/28/23 Update:

I really appreciate Athena Club's response to me below. Their products are awesome, and I will be looking forward to the refund of my last order. I'm pleasantly surprised with their response, and think they just need to work on their website functionality so customers aren't surprised with charges.

Unfortunately, my experience with Athena is as another reviewer described.

Quick positives: silky smooth gel lined razors a close shave every time. Smooth and lush shave foam and lotion. Lotion is not oily, but not as hydrating as other non subscription options. Responsive customer service for some issues; they offered to send me a holder free charge for an upcoming move.

The bad: everything else

No ability to view your subscription pause date, and no sympathy or help from Molly at Athena. I've been charged twice with surprise shipments, and this month was very hard financially. The shipment is an unwanted expense.

No reminder emails for subscription resumption. When questioned, Molly stated this is the way it is, and didn't offer to pass my feature request along until I insisted. After finding the other review, I have no faith they will actually look at that request.

With no reminder emails and no ability to see your pause date, you will either frantically check your calendar to check the website, or more likely, you have an active life and you'll just get charged one day.

It is not unfriendly, it's an actively hostile approach to business, and though I love the razors and shave foam, I quickly realized I can get cheaper razors and shave foam elsewhere and no longer deal with this headache. I suspect these problems are intentional to get customers to stay subbed and pay, and honestly that also crosses the line into hostile and shady customer "service".

Just know what you're getting into; I don't see many critical reviews, so thought I'd add my experience. This is my second time cancelling for these issues; in my case third time won't be the charm. I've had enough.

They scam & won’t fix site problems

Just terrible experience with this company. Throughout this year, they have had some serious technical issues on their site that they haven’t addressed, and I continued to be shipped (and charged for) products that I wasn’t visibly subscribed to. This past week was the last straw for me. Out of paranoia of another mishap, I’d been continually checking my subscriptions page to see when I was scheduled to receive my next orders, and it stated I’d be getting my next razor pack Aug 16th. Lo and behold, I recently got an email that razors had been shipped to me (in June, two months too early) and was charged over $20 for them. I emailed customer service immediately, and essentially was told I was lying. But I know for 100% fact, as I’d been checking my subscriptions page over and over for weeks, that a June shipment was not stated as scheduled on my subscriptions page. (It probably was scheduled on their end, but my account’s page didn’t show ME that.) The worst feeling is to not be believed as a customer — I’d been complaining to them about my subscriptions page not reflecting accurate ship dates and, again, Molly from Athena Club essentially told me I was lying about everything and refused to remedy their error in any way. If they were an honest company, they would fix these serious website bugs and listen to their frustrated customers — instead they send shipments without any warning beforehand (Billie does FYI) so that they can scam you into paying for something you didn’t order. So disappointed that I had to stop being a customer.

Ordered a razor kit that was on…

Ordered a razor kit that was on backorder. It said the item would be shipped 2-3 weeks after placing the order. That time has since passed and still no shipping notification. Sent an email to their customer service who said that razor was on backorder and would ship in a couple weeks. (It's been over a month.) That would all make sense except I've been to the website, and it seems that razor has been put back in stock. Still no shipping email. Contacted them again and got the same exact copy and paste response. It would be more helpful if they actually responded instead giving me a run-around.

If it was truly on backorder still then why list it as in stock?
