Berghain Avis 15

We are two French guys who have been part of the techno scene for about fifteen years, both legal and underground, mostly between Paris and London, where I have been living for the past decade. We have visited many clubs across Europe without any problems. This was our first time in Berlin, and we wanted to experience what all the hype was about regarding its clubs and their so-called inclusivity.

We arrived at Berghain around midnight. The queue was said to be more than three hours long, so we decided not to take our chances. Watching from the gates, the bouncers barely said a word. They simply gave people a quick look and made a hand gesture, either toward the exit or the entrance. A lot of people were turned away. It seemed like a fifty-fifty chance at best. Waiting three hours only to be rejected would have ruined the night, so we moved on, thinking it was probably better to come either very early or very late.

Next, we tried Suicide Circus (Lockschuppen). There was no queue at all, so we thought this would be it. The bouncer asked if we spoke German, and I politely said no, only French or English. He then responded rather rudely in German, which we could not understand but clearly got the message. I repeated that we did not speak German, and he finally switched to English to tell us we were not welcome.

We decided to give it another go and headed to Tresor. The queue there was also quite short, so we tried our luck again. Unfortunately, it was the same story. The questions were not about our vibe or energy, only about where we were from and whether we spoke German. Once again, we were turned away.

Our last stop was Kater Blau. The queue was small, so we thought we would give it one final try. The atmosphere there was completely different. The bouncers were smiling, the energy felt welcoming, and they asked the right kind of questions. They did not care where we came from or what language we spoke. The music was slower than we expected, but the venue was great, with three different rooms and friendly people inside. We had a lovely time there.

I have always known techno to be about inclusivity and freedom, without barriers, just music. But in Berlin, it seems the scene is more about exclusivity. I will not be coming back here to dance, that is for sure.

Ein tolles Erlebnis, das nächste Mal, wenn ich in Berlin bin, komme ich wieder dorthin.

We are coming there, we been dressed better than everybody, we wanted spend a lot of money but the selector looked at us maybe 2 seconde and said us goodbuy- have a nice evening😂 Don’t be sad, this is not the best club of the world, but the dirtiest place of the world

At a time in history when inclusion, tolerance and freedom should be concrete realities, you still make this rude and meaningless selection.

I totally love Berghain. Have been going since 2008. Can still go and have the best of times.

It’s so fun to read the bad comments from people offended they didn’t get in.
Like seriously. Are you surprised you didn’t get in. Like 70-80% don’t get in.

And don’t pretend it’s something racist or what ever. I am a Latino man and I don’t speak German.
It has nothing to do with race.

Everything was perfect from the staff to the music and general vibe. The atmosphere was incredible. I hope to go back one day.

Absolute sinkhole. You think it’s going to be worthwhile after all the hype and it’s 100% not worth a penny. The staff are rude, the venue is nothing special at all, and frankly, the music didn’t make up for it. If I could give 0 then I would.

Its fun, and yes, it is a gay club. So people shouldnt be offended!

But the price now? Wow

6-7 years ago it was 17 euros, but now the cover is 30-40 euros. No thanks

Rund um das Berghain auf dem Gelände haben mich 3 Dealer gefragt ob ich was kaufen möchte

Nur eine kleine Anmerkung warum nicht mehr möchte ich nicht wissen

Wenn die Dealer vom Gelände verjagt werden und die Glassplitter vom Boden weg wären wärs noch irgendwie ok

If I could give -5 stars, I totally would. A cute mid-30s couple, hot russian chick and handsome man from Venezuela. We are turned down by a skinny dude in adidas shorts that have a length of a toddler sock. Meanwhile 99% people let in are obviously Gay. I have absolutely nothing against LGBTQ, but I don’t appreciate false advertising (totally my problem, but that’s what reviews are for).
Even Uber driver, who drove us to Berghain said he came and left after 40 minutes. He also told us not to go inside dark rooms… so basically if you combine online reviews, local people’s opinions and observations of people getting in, it’s a 100% LGBTQ club and if you are straight, u r not getting in.
Would be nice if this place didn’t pretend they are exclusive but instead just were open about their preferences for visitors.
It’s a cheap ass trick to be advertised as ‘so hard to get in’, ‘guest list’ bla bla. It’s probably an amazing Gay club and respectfully the management should have guts and courage to advertise and promote it as such rather than call it exclusive and turn down cool random sober tourists in black, as positive and kind as anyone can be. Double Fcuk to the liars and pretensious morons.

This club is f****cking racist, trash bouncers. Dont go to this shittty club.

No bliss like weekends in Berghain. Maybe some parties are too much for our too puritanical society, though I’m also not a fan of all these urine parties) as for me, Berghain is a true gem of Berlin!
