Better Nature Tempeh Avis 238

Amazing product! My favourite is the smokey tempeh. I must always have some at home! I hope it soon becomes more widely available in UK supermarkets.

Was really enjoying the Tempeh until I had two separate packs that contained small, hard and brown stones. Almost chipped my tooth!

I tried tempeh a while back and had decided it wasn't for me until I had better nature at my friend's place a few weeks ago.. I'm obsessed!! this is another level of yum yumness!!!

Better Nature tempeh is a staple in my home - I have their tempeh in some form most days. The plain organic tempeh is so versatile, I like grating it into a spag bol, chopping it into chunks for a curry and slicing it up for sandwiches etc. Really like their ethos as a company too!

Best tempeh I've ever had and doesn't give me any stomach issues!!! I thought I didn't like tempeh as I only remember having really bitter ones from random health food shops, but recently I saw Better Nature on promo in Tesco and decided to give it a go as I had never tried this brand before. And it was just AMAZING!! I made a bolognese last night using the plain block and now I want to go back to the shop and try the whole range!!!! Also love that they donate to charity and don't use any additives

I've recently been trying a greater variety of protein sources, and so far, Better Nature's tempeh has been one of my favorites. I even tried out one of the recipes on the website (20 minute tempeh dal) and it turned out great! I look forward to trying out their other products

I absolutely do not recommend this company.

They lied about the longevity of the products in the post, for over a year, sent the wrong products, sent newly delivered stock to fill some other newer order when I'd been waiting far longer, put "best before" dates on clearly perishable products, sent out products with no "best before" or "use by" date at all on the tubs, sent out products which went mouldy long before the marked date (seemingly known factory rejects) , sent out products which were past the use by date even when they were sent out (ordered directly from Better Nature using their website). Instead of refunds, they'd just send out more product; while making false claims about it being fit for consumption even when it actually wasn't.

When the owner finally bothered to get back to me (after claiming this took weeks because he was touring their foreign factory facilities???) , he first attempted to blame me for various things, let slip that actually the factory is in the UK and just some large no-brand subcontractor which churns out packaged food for all manner of companies, seemed rather casual about them sending out improperly sealed products (everywhere has a margin for error, it will be business as usual for BNT, he has no intention of changing anything or talking to the factory about it), he avoided lots of my questions, and generally seemed really clueless, weird, fake, and irresponsible.

I got refunded for everything I had ordered (eventually!), as none of it was (when the truth came out) packaged adequately for the mailing process. They simply train their staff to lie and say otherwise. It's ridiculous.
Some wasn't even packaged fit to be eaten at all, never mind left unchilled at all beforehand.

I've had lots of bad stomach issues, which I must say have improved noticeably since I stopped eating this stuff regularly. I'm pretty sure they only refunded me to get me to clear off, and to avoid being taken to court for giving me (and maybe loads of other people) food poisoning.

I absolutely don't recommend this company.
It's not small, it's not homespun, it's not honest, their products aren't adequately packaged and labelled, they aren't actually that healthy, and they might make you extremely ill.

Oh, and fwiw the "rashers" are just nasty.
They're problematic to cook due to being wet and stodgy, and I found the taste was not good.
This is a very trivial issue compared to everything else, though.

I'm certain that the reason they shut down the website sales and shifted to Amazon, is to get Amazon to take responsibility for handling their "customer service". They can't be bothered to even sell products through the proper Amazon "chilled goods" process, and are still just sending them out directly. Whatever they tell you, their packaging absolutely doesn't keep the contents chilled for more than the absolute shortest delivery times, if even that (24 hours max). It's not obvious that their stuff is past it when it takes longer, as dangerous bacteria in packaged foods like this don't usually have a smell. They'll tell you to "do a sniff test" to assess delivered products, because BNT don't give their staff even the most basic hygiene training. I helpfully suggested it, but the owner wasn't at all interested.

Make sure you do ALL communication in writing because the gaslighting is absolutely phenomenal when you try to get real problems addressed and you'll want to have evidence that the owner is constantly talking drivel, about everything from delivery times to the claims made by all of their staff.

Apparently, they're getting products into supermarkets now. They wouldn't tell me whether they use chilled trucks for that, so maybe they don't bother. I honestly don't know. They like to blame a lot on their "distribution partners", but won't say who this is or do anything about the established issues. I rather suspect that it's just their own company failing at competent distribution of their own product.

In conclusion, this experience was appalling and I've had to dramatically shift my expectations of how bad a food company can potentially be, because this was far beyond anything I had previously imagined.

Ofc, everyone likes different things.
If you're bored and think food poisoning sounds like a fun change of pace then tuck in if you want to, I'm not the boss of you. But most people probably won't enjoy it.

Of course, you might be.... lucky.... for a while, at least. But, I'd recommend avoiding the gamble tbh.

Recently purchased some chilled Tempeh. Free postage (order was over required amount) and arrived in 2 days. Particularly impressive that they delivered chilled goods to Orkney (most companies don’t) so I was delighted to say the least that they did! Product was well packaged and suitably insulated which ensured it arrived perfect condition. Thank you!

Rapid delivery, great website that is quick to order from, eco packaging except for chiller pouches, best tempeh I've ever tasted.

I slice and cook mine in a broth made with tamari with a splash of une vinegar and cider vinegar, plus a small amount of coconut sugar. I cook it till all the broth is absorbed then add it to stews and salads, have it in sandwiches or mash it with avocado to spread on crackers.

Just a fantastic product, also excellent service across the easter period. Never buying meat again!!

Ordered an experimenter pack of tempeh. Loved them all, the smokey rashers were great for breakfast and the Mediterranean flavour pieces were delicious with roasted veg and cous cous. In fact we enjoyed every type and flavour so I have just ordered another pack.

Yummy tempeh and I love the fact that this company is plastic neutral too as it always winds me up when vegan food comes wrapped in lots of plastic!
