Unsolicited Marketing and Serious Data Protection Concerns

Better Waste Solutions contacted me by unsolicited text message claiming I had previously enquired about their services. I had not. When challenged, their representative could not explain when, how, or even if this enquiry supposedly happened, yet continued trying to push a quote anyway. They ultimately admitted they did not know how my mobile number was obtained and told me to email the company instead. That is not acceptable. This shows a complete lack of transparency, poor data handling practices, and a casual attitude to personal data. If a company cannot explain where it got your contact details or why it is contacting you, it should not be contacting you at all. I have serious concerns about GDPR compliance and would strongly caution others against engaging with a business that appears unable or unwilling to account for its own marketing practices.

We are sorry you seem to have received contact from us that you did not want.

Our text message service is an automated service to contact people who have previously enquired with us, or one of our partners, and have requested a quote for business services by providing their contact details via an online form. The text message is built to see if any interest remains in our service, and if so then someone from our team will call to discuss this with you.

The text message service does not have access to the origin of the thousands of enquiries we get every month, from a variety of sources, and therefore would not be able to advise on where your enquiry came from. However, there are people in the business who can advise this, and that is why it has advised that you email us.

We do not seem to have received any email from someone of your name. Please can you email your mobile number to info@betterwaste.co.uk and we can then provide you with the source of your details, and the date and time that you made your enquiry. Along with the privacy policies on the relevant site.

We also can see all the text messaging contact that we receive and we will review in full the dialogue you have had. If there is a break in the process where you opted out and this was not registered then this will be investigated with utmost importance.

We have not had any other complaints regarding the text message service and therefore we will investigate what has failed in your instance.

It is a shame you did not feel able to send this information to us on email as requested to find out the information you require, before taking to TrustPilot, however we will do everything we can to provide you with the information you need once we receive your details.

Numerous times the bin has not been…

Numerous times the bin has not been collected. Excuses are pathetic - the driver ran out of hours on one of them and it took two weeks for them to come back, meaning no bin collection for 1-month. Latest failure was last week when bin was not collected. Left out again this week and no collection. Customer service responds but claims bin was collected when it wasn't or send us the photo of the inside of a bin to prove it was collected when the full bin is on our driveway. They actually lie to you. Hope this helps someone from being scammed.

Debbie super helpful switching bins around

I needed to contact Better Waste Solutions to change my bins over for the new legislation. Debbie was really helpful in explaining what the new rules are and how I can get the best value for money whilst still getting what I need. She sorted the bin switch over with no hassle at all and she pointed me to the updated collection days on the portal which makes it easy to keep track of. Thanks Debbie!

Would not recommend. Keep well away from this company.

We booked this company and at first, they seemed very friendly and professional. They assured us that if we made payment before 3 pm when Katie leaves the office, they would come the next day to collect everything.

We paid as agreed and even sent them a photo of everything that needed collecting beforehand. We received a text with a location and tracking link, which seemed promising. They arrived, took about 20 bags, and then drove off with a half-empty van, leaving the rest behind.

When we called to find out why, we were told only Katie could deal with it. She never called back. We phoned four or five times that day and kept getting excuses - “she’s on another line,” “she’s tried to call you,” “she’s on lunch.” Still no resolution.

Now they’re saying they’ll call in the morning. Meanwhile, the only difference between the before and after is that we are £500 poorer and still have the rubbish to deal with. They’ve messed us around and wasted our time.

Would not recommend. Keep well away from this company.

We’re sorry to receive your review and hear how unhappy you are, we can see that Katie has been in touch with you to discuss the one off collection and is advising you further as she has contacted the supplier.

On the set up call we discussed the details of the waste that needed to be cleared, we requested photos and sent them to the supplier who advised on a price for 14-yards of waste. You were advised the driver would remove 14-yards of waste, if the waste on site exceeded this the remaining waste would be left and we would be back in touch to discuss a potential 2nd collection. We would not ask for all the waste to be removed, or for a 2nd visit to be scheduled without authorisation to confirm you would be happy with the additional cost involved.

Katie will continue to work with you based on the information from the supplier.

Disgusting service; Frequent missed bin collections always topped with the old chestnut excuse "lorry broke down." Save your time and look elsewhere.

While our suppliers do try their very best to attend on the advised day, there are times when unexpected issues do occur, that can include a vehicle breakdown. We have look into the cases logged since January 2025, we can see 1 collection has been reported to be missed due to a vehicle breakdown, this was yesterday and the supplier have advised this was recovered this morning.

Absolutely horrendous company who hounds you to the point of harassment. Constant calling every day. Even when blocked they are calling and calling and calling to get a sale.

BIN DOES NOT GET COLLECTED

Unfortunately not happy with this company, when we originally signed with them the service was excellent, they then changed their provider without telling us and thats when things changed, the bin was not collected on many occasions, we tried to cancel our service but they said we needed to give them 6 months notice!!! they finally agreed to let us out of our contract and owed us money due to credits for missed collections, still awaiting payment of credits. Do not use this company, your local council do a much better service for a fraction of the cost. Once the service had been cancelled they were very nice at trying to sort everything out, unfortunately it was the company who collected the bins who were at fault not Better Waste.

Go Direct to the bin supplier instead. Better waste solutions are just a middle man and will charge you double the amount going direct would in the second year.

Auto Renew contracts keep you tied in with them for a long period

We are sorry you feel the need to leave this review. However, threatening us with negative online reviews if we do not release you from your contract early, is not the way we operate.

You have not had any service issues and have not had cause to complain over the last 2 years and 2 months of us emptying your container. The latest excess weight charge has been fully substantiated by the supplier, and we have asked for the calibration certificates as you requested from the supplier.

Your position to go direct to the supplier for a new contract suggests you are not in fact disputing the overweight charge they have imposed on you. We have accepted your notice to end your contract at the expiration date and will be in touch with you for removal nearer the time.

Entrap you and raise their prices - and you aren’t free to Leave!

I signed up to better waste in 2021 on a 2 year contract, at the time I was happy with the rates they offered, slowly they’ve been adding more the priced as times have gone on, my contract expired in 2023 and I stayed with them thinking that now I am out of contract I am free to leave if I thought I was being taken advantage of. A couple of days ago I got an email saying they are raising their prices by 9%, so I thought I would check the market to make sure they are still competitive, and found that actually I can get prices cheaper than before the price rise, so I gave them a call and said can you match the prices and I’ll stay or I’ll be leaving. To be told that in 2023 the contract automatically renews for a further 2 years and they are free to raise the prices to what ever level they want. So they entrap you, don’t tell you this when you sign up, write it in the small print in the hope that you don’t notice. So my advice to anyone is don’t sign up for a contract with them as they entrap you! It’s like being in a mobile phone contract and when it expires to be told it’s automatically renewed at a new price level as you didn’t tell them you are wanting to leave! Utter con artists! AVOID AVOID

We’re sorry to hear your feedback; we can assure you the decision to apply a price increase was not taken lightly. We did not apply a price increase in 2024, despite an increase imposed on us by our suppliers. However, as I'm sure you have experienced in your own businesses, our suppliers have increased their prices in 2025 and we are unable to absorb these increases any further.

We do value you as a customer and you having been with us since 2021 without cause to complain over the past 4 years. We know that cheaper isn't always better and we have had some customers return to us after leaving as they have found out the quality of service is just as important as the price.

We are happy to look at supplier options or your bin combination with you to try and save you some money. Please could you get in contact with us as we are unsure of your account with your review only showing your first name.
