Were a great help in editing and making of the books cover.

The print team have all been very polite and kind in their interactions with me. And I am very, very grateful for that. The communications have been prompt and to the point.
The crew is enthusiatic about my book and definately into supporting the project where they can if I have the funding for it.

However, the communications haven't always clarified the specific fees I was charged but list more general ,"...it is the price difference of everything altogether," but it would have more helpful if each item/service I was being charged for had been listed. Such as, was I charged for corrections that were made in the first physical proof to ready it for the second proof printing? So I am a bit confused on that account.

I am grateful for the team's persistance in helping the book get printed and sent on its way to me. I am grateful they haven't backed out or given up on the project. This was my first book to be published and Book Fuel made it very easy. They did most of the work in the publishing process, responded to queries very quickly, and were particularly helpful in designing the book cover and introduction.

I purchased a Book Publishing package (£299 one-time fee) from BookFuel, coordinated with Global Publishing services. The package advertised the following:
• Thorough review of the manuscript
• Formatting and layout to International Publishing Standards (IPS)
• Publishing on Amazon and Kindle
• Unlimited revisions and modifications
• Print-on-Demand setup
• Secure author portal access
• Full ownership rights
• Multiple formats: eBook, paperback, hardcover
In practice, these commitments were not delivered as described.
Over a period of approximately two months, the project experienced repeated delays, missed deadlines, and four deadline extensions. Communication was polite, and I dealt directly with Frank Riley, who cited an unexpected technical mishap during final formatting that required restarting the work “from a new baseline.”
This explanation is inadequate for several reasons:
• A full restart suggests the original process lacked proper version control or quality checks
• A “final-stage” failure contradicts the claim of a thorough manuscript review
• The delivered files are print replicas, not functional publishing formats
• The outcome did not reflect international publishing standards, nor multi-format readiness
I thank Kevin Butler for the book facsimile of the cover I designed; but at the end of this process, the files provided were not usable for readership standards, so my manuscript is now in a worse position than when I began. I am rebuilding the project independently using a different publishing route. Any prior uploads are defunct for my current needs.
While explanations were offered and assurances of supervision were made, they did not translate into reliable delivery. I cannot confirm that the advertised services — including unlimited revisions, proper formatting, or multi-format preparation — were meaningfully fulfilled.
The only value gained from this experience was learning how to avoid similar arrangements in the future. I would strongly advise authors to be cautious of bundled publishing packages that promise comprehensive outcomes at low cost.
In fairness, this service may be adequate for very simple projects e.g. text-only book with no design complexity. However, if your work is creative , includes images, alternating formats, visual structures, or requires real understanding of ebook versus print-specific formatting, I would not trust any service to manage Print on Demand if they are unable to reliably deliver functional ebook files.
Based on my experience, I would not use these services again. In my opinion, authors’ money is better spent on trusted independent professionals, direct publishing tools, or causes that demonstrably return accountability with value.

BookFuel are a dedicated and friendly team who helped bring my vision to life. Frank, Aaron, Sam, and Kevin were fantastic in all aspects of our working relationship. The editing phase was fast-paced, while their work was consistent and within a reasonable time frame. Editing and publishing can be slow, stressful, with many obstacles and speed bumps along the way. BookFuel made the process streamlined and smooth, without stalling or excuses. There are many dishonest companies who take your money, waste your time, and harrass you for more investment - but still fail to deliver. While BookFuel were upfront and straightforward, continually ticking off every element in our agreement.

Jim sure did come through! Jim is the guy you want to ask for and he takes instructions seriously, and shows genuine desire to make your book work as you want it!

I wish my original other books that were botched up by Amazonpublishingassistant, would have been done by Jim's company instead of those clowns at the above named other publisher! They STILL haven't stood good and replaced the botched up mess they PROMISED to replace almost a year ago. NEVER, ever go to AMAZONPUBLISHINGASSISTANT! You'll regret it as much as I do and they will not honor promises to replace mess-ups. Bookfuel did and would, and you will be happy with the work Kim does and his company.
I did the next book, and contacted Jim first-it goes better when he's involved! Jim returns calls, listens to the client, and he does take ownership of an account as though it were his and THAT is GOOD! If there is a (botching), he chases it down as though it were personal and won't rest until it is tracked and fixed. I just submitted my manuscript to his company and he is who I want to oversee it. I can't wait for the finished product!

I paid BookFuel $899 for their Standard Publishing Package, which included editing, formatting, cover design, and publication by a agreed-upon date.

Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

Missed Deadline: The company failed to meet the confirmed publication date of August 31, 2025. When I followed up, they incorrectly claimed they were never given this deadline.

Upselling Instead of Delivering: Rather than providing the services I paid for, their communications shifted to repeated attempts to upsell me on additional services (ISBN registration, barcode creation, marketing packages), blaming the delay on my refusal to purchase these extras.

Failure on Basic Services: They insisted I needed to provide my own barcode, a task that is a standard, integral part of cover design and takes seconds to complete with the ISBN I had already provided. This demonstrated a shocking lack of basic publishing knowledge or a deliberate attempt to delay.

I have now had to formally request a full refund due to this fundamental breach of our agreement. Their failure to deliver the core service has left me without a published book and out of pocket.

Prospective customers should be very cautious. Ensure all deadlines are in writing and be prepared for upsell attempts for basic services.

I’ve published books both with a major publisher and by self-publishing, so when I began preparing my newest work, The Temple Within, I knew I wanted to go fully independent but with professional support. I started by researching self-publishing service companies that could handle the essentials—ISBN assignment, cover design, formatting, pricing consultation, and distribution. I narrowed my list down to three and conducted phone interviews.

BookFuel quickly became the frontrunner, but I wanted to be sure. I searched Amazon for recent BookFuel titles and reached out to six authors directly. Two responded, and both gave positive feedback about their experience. That was enough for me to request a contract. After a little back and forth to clarify what I wanted in writing, I signed and got started.

From there, the process was smooth and impressive. They asked me to complete a simple cover questionnaire, and within 48 hours I had a draft design. It was nearly perfect on the first try—just a few font adjustments, and it captured the spirit of my manuscript beautifully.

The real test came with formatting. The Temple Within is a 455-page book of essays exploring Freemasonry. It’s closer to a textbook in complexity than a standard narrative. The formatting team and I exchanged three rounds of revisions by email, and they were consistently responsive, professional, and detail-oriented. When the final version was ready, BookFuel uploaded it seamlessly to the major outlets.

I didn’t fully realize the quality of their work until a recent community event, when two men brought me copies of my book—one in trade paperback, the other in hardcover. I hadn’t even received my author copies yet. Seeing them in person, I was stunned. They were gorgeous. The writing was mine, but BookFuel had elevated the presentation to match my vision.

That experience sealed it for me. Before the day was out, I signed, paid, and submitted the manuscript for my next book, Chasing the Surge: 10,000 Rides into the American Night. I’m excited to see how they handle this very different nonfiction memoir. And as I draft my first true fiction project, The Carter Rituals, there’s no question—I’ll be turning to BookFuel again.
