Verbal attack from store manager
Last night I had a terrible experience at Co op Hill Top, West Bromwich. I have used this store regularly at least twice a week since it opened, spending at least £20 a time. Despite this I have just been treated like an absolute tramp by the manager there. I did my shopping - £30 - and swiped my debit card. The assistant asked if I wanted a receipt which I declined. On my way to my car another assistant came out and said that the card had not been scanned properly and I haven’t paid. I asked how do I know if I let you swipe my card that I’m not going to be charged twice? (On a side note I was made redundant with no notice yesterday so I’m obviously being very careful at the moment with what money there is in my account). This helpful assistant offered to fetch the manager to answer my query. I waited by the door whilst he did this - hardly the act of someone intent on avoiding payment!
Along comes the manager, and immediately she is intent on a confrontation. In the main entrance way in front of all customers entering and leaving, straight away she starts with “you have left these premises with that shopping and if you don’t pay it’s theft” What a way to start speaking to anybody when the failure was clearly THEIRS for not taking the payment properly and letting me leave the store.
I am so upset, embarrassed and angry in equal measure. It’s absolutely unacceptable treatment and I won’t EVER be using this store again, nor will any members of my family! This post is going all over the internet wherever I can think of where it will have the most impact! (Another side note: I am an ex employee of Mid counties Co operative)
Want to know what happened to my shopping? I left in on the step for her to pick up and take back, wasn’t letting her have my bags for life!
