Designers Withheld Payment by Crowdspring — Here’s How to Report and Push for Justice
If you’re a designer who’s completed work via Crowdspring and have had payment withheld, you’re far from alone. The platform consistently delays or blocks payouts, often silencing creatives who try to follow up. Many designers report account deletions, vague excuses, or non-responses once their project is finished.
Here’s what you can do to help protect our community and push for accountability:
1. File an FTC complaint (recommended for everyone):
Crowdspring operates internationally and in the U.S. If you haven’t been paid, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC):
• Go to: he Federal Trade Commission site and select “Report Fraud”
• Click “Report Now.”
• Choose “Consumer Products & Services” > “Other.”
• In the description, state that Crowdspring withheld payment for completed freelance work, is retaining customer funds, or is committing unjust enrichment.
• Attach all supporting screenshots: contracts, payment requests, correspondence, proof of completed work.
• Submit. Save your confirmation/report number for reference.
2. For designers who completed projects after July 2024:
If you worked with Crowdspring after Illinois’ Freelance Worker Protection Act (FWPA) took effect (July 2024), you can also file with the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL):
• Gather evidence: your signed contract, project approval, proof Crowdspring handles payment (not client), application/onboarding documentation, communication showing vetting or review.
• Visit: Illinois Department of Labor site and search for “FLWPA Complaint Form”
• Fill out the form with your details and upload supporting files.
3. Illinois Attorney General reporting:
Even if your complaint falls outside FWPA (pre-July 2024), reporting to Illinois’ AG can add pressure. Be aware you might be redirected to IDOL, but the volume of complaints helps signal a pattern.
4. Why this matters:
Crowdspring profits from “unjust enrichment”—accepting client funds, benefiting from designer labor, and refusing to pay the creatives who make their platform possible. Only collective, documented complaints may force regulators to investigate and hold Crowdspring accountable with fines, forced payouts, or public warnings—all without individual freelancers having to go to court.[trustpilot +1]
5. What to document:
• Contract copies and payment terms
• Proof of completed work and client approval
• Screenshots of payment requests and Crowdspring’s handling
• Email or platform messages confirming account closure/payment holds
• Application or vetting steps showing Crowdspring is effectively the hiring party
Let’s stand together:
If you’ve had your payment withheld, don’t stay silent. Keep your documentation safe, file complaints as described, and encourage fellow designers to do the same. The more reports, the harder it is for Crowdspring to ignore and the likelier justice is done for our creative work.
How to Report If Crowdspring Deleted Your Account or You Lack Evidence
If Crowdspring deleted your account, locked you out, or you didn’t save screenshots, don’t let that stop you from reporting. Here’s what you and others in this situation should know:
• You can still file a complaint:
Agencies like the FTC, Illinois Department of Labor, and the Attorney General rely on patterns of complaints—not just on hard evidence. Your detailed account may be enough to trigger an investigation, especially if many people describe the same behavior.
• Be as detailed as possible:
In your complaint, include:
• The approximate dates the work was completed and when payment was expected.
• The title and description of the project(s).
• What communications (if any) you had with Crowdspring or with your client.
• Any deadlines, project approvals, or emails showing you should have been paid.
• The date and circumstances of your account closure or loss of access (e.g., “Crowdspring deleted my profile immediately after I requested payment”).
• Any partial evidence you might have: downloaded contracts, emails, payment notifications, or even calendar entries and invoices.
• Mention the loss of access:
Explicitly state in the complaint form that Crowdspring deleted your account or communications, and that you are no longer able to retrieve messages or records from the platform.
• Use whatever you do have:
Even if it’s just the contract, confirmation emails, or your own notes, include them.
• Request agencies to subpoena records:
In your description, you can request that investigators obtain records directly from Crowdspring, since the platform controls all the project, contract, and payment logs.
Stay away!!!!
No Pagan
Están meses para pagar. Dicen que están asegurados los concursos pero muchos de ellos quedan simplemente abandonados a pesar de que uno a veces los gana por ende no hay premio para el diseñador. Deberían cerrar ese antro
Crowdspring is detrimental to both clients and designers.
This platform is detrimental to both clients and designers.
They have withheld my payments for nearly two years with no guidance or information whatsoever. They refuse to disclose any details about these payments—why the delay is so prolonged, how to resolve it, or when there will be clarity on disbursement. This behavior constitutes a serious injustice that merits legal action.
The platform is rife with dishonesty and will ignore you simply for asserting your rightful claims to your money and entitlements. The worst part is that they continue to force the remaining designers to comply with rules they themselves shamelessly violate.
I urge every designer reading this message to leave this platform immediately. Please, open your eyes and hearts—walk away from this toxic environment without delay. They do not deserve to continue existing and disrupting your lives.
Scammer Pro Max Ultra Plus!!
Scammer Pro Max Ultra Plus!!
Crowdspring is acting like a scam platform when it comes to payments. They are shamelessly holding back 10 of my payments without any justification. I have delivered all my projects honestly and on time, yet they refuse to release the money I rightfully earned.
This is not just unprofessional—it is outright dishonest and abusive to the creatives who make this platform possible. Holding freelancers’ money is nothing less than fraud. Crowdspring must stop exploiting designers and resolve their payment issues immediately. Until then, I strongly warn other freelancers: stay away from this platform.
I keep coming back for more!
The is the second time I work with Crowdspring for a logo design and, once again, the easy and affordable process exceeded my expectations! I am already on to another more substantial project with them. The creative person was so easy to work with, and the agent at Crowdspring was, too. The interface is also very simple, even for non-techies. Love it!
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
crowdspringis not paying freelancers.
Fellow creatives, freelancers & businesses — beware of Ross Kimbarovsky (CEO of crowdspring ). do not trust him and Crowdspring.com. Thay drag you and finally scam and will not pay. If asked they are rude and threating
I completed work, never got paid even after 2.5 years, and my account was later deactivated without explanation.
Crowdspring Is Untrustworthy – Designers Beware
I am a professional graphic designer. Crowdspring has withheld my payments for months, despite me completing all projects properly. Many other designers have reported similar problems.
This platform does not protect freelancers or clients. They fail to pay on time and often lack transparency in handling funds.
If you want reliable results, it is better to work directly with a trusted designer rather than using Crowdspring.
Crowdspring never paid me – Designers & Clients, be cautious!
I am a professional graphic designer with over 6 years of experience. Crowdspring has withheld more than $1,000 of my earnings for over 2 years, despite my completing all assigned projects successfully.
This platform is essentially a fraud. They regularly accept designers’ work but refuse to release payments, leaving freelancers unpaid for months or even years. Shockingly, there are also cases where clients’ funds are withheld, showing a complete lack of honesty and professionalism.
Crowdspring needs to pay designers on time, handle client money responsibly, and communicate transparently. Until these serious issues are fixed, I strongly warn all designers and clients to avoid Crowdspring.
Crowdspring scammer site
"Crowdspring is a scam factory – they steal designers’ work, never pay, and exploit creative talent. Avoid at all costs!"
Crowdspring is nothing more than a parasite on the creative industry. They lure honest, hardworking designers with promises of fair opportunities and payment, then turn around and steal your work without paying a single rupee, dollar, or cent.
I invested my time, skill, and energy into their so-called “projects,” following every brief to perfection. And what did I get? Silence, lies, and endless excuses. Their support team is a joke — slow responses, copy-paste answers, and absolutely no accountability. Once they have your work, they disappear.
This is not a misunderstanding or an “issue” — this is their business model: use designers to produce creative work, take the ideas, and then vanish without payment. It’s theft, plain and simple.
To every designer reading this: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TALENT HERE. You will be exploited, your time will be stolen, and your creativity will be abused. They have no respect for you, your craft, or this industry.
Crowdspring, you are a disgrace. You don’t deserve to call yourself a platform for creatives — you are a scam factory. Every single designer should walk away and never look back.
Under review!
I always saw this platform very good, but from what happened recenlty I have to report about them.
I worked as a graphic designer and I won few contest on crowdspring.com, and much times my designs in the top chosen of the clients looking for logos. I have been paid regularly about prizes. Few years ago suddenly they blocked my account and don't gave me more access to contests projects. Moreover, they don't give me any valid reason and disconnected any communications and they does not reply, clarify to my requests. However, copyright of not chosen designs from clients are still mine as original designer, as stated on on terms.
Scam Website!!! WARNING
Closed my account. After I had requested my pending payment of $315, which was due on January 15, 2024 (last year), I have waited over 16 Months. Don't work with/suggest this scam website (crowdspring.com)
Unethical Refusal of Refund – You Are Stealing My Money
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and anger regarding your refusal to issue a refund for my project, despite your clear 30-day refund policy.
I carefully reviewed your terms before committing, and now you are dishonestly withholding my money under false pretenses. Your email stating, “While the project isn't eligible for cancellation or a refund…” is a blatant lie and a violation of your own policies.
I am one of many victims who have been cheated by your company. The designs from your creatives may be good, but your business practices are fraudulent. My partner and I explicitly decided not to proceed, yet you are stealing our money instead of honoring your refund guarantee.
This is unacceptable, unethical, and possibly illegal. If you do not process my refund immediately, I will:
∆ Publicly expose this scam on Trustpilot, BBB, Reddit, and social media.
∆ File a formal complaint with the FTC and my state’s consumer protection agency.
∆ Escalate to legal action if necessary.
Do the right thing before this escalates further.
Sincerely,
If you want a range of concepts
If you want a range of concepts, Crowdspring delivers. Good creative resource for pros and novices. I am the lead for a senior level marketing team. We were looking for inspiration for our logo revamp and I wanted several ideas to help determine the right direction. I got the inspiration I needed out of this exercise and was able to use it to drive our logo to the finish line.
Crowdspring Refused to Pay Prize – Over a Year Waiting
I won a project on Crowdspring over a year ago, completed everything as requested, and was promised my final payment. Instead of paying me, they deleted my account and accused me of a violation—without providing any details or proof.
They later said my payment would be processed if I confirmed their terms, which I did. I received a message, "You do not need to contact us again, we will inform you of updates." It has now been over 12 months. I’ve heard nothing. No updates. No payment.
This platform is deeply unprofessional, and in my case, acted fraudulently. Many other designers have faced similar issues. I strongly advise others to avoid Crowdspring.
Crowdspring is no longer a reliable platform.
I’ve been waiting for nearly a year for a payment (July 28, 2024). I followed up multiple times and stayed patient, but there was little to no response. Eventually, my account was deactivated without any notice after I mentioned reporting to the FTC.
Turns out, I’m not the only one. I’ve seen many reviews and complaints from designers over the years with similar stories — delayed or missing payments, zero accountability, and poor communication.
Crowdspring is no longer the platform it once was. Although I’m a designer based outside the U.S., I’ve already reported my experience to the FTC (Report number: 186918011), and I’m warning other creatives: stay away from this site.
They’ve lost my trust completely.
To all designers around the world: if you’ve experienced similar issues with Crowdspring, I strongly urge you to file a report with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Your voice matters, and your report can help stop these unfair practices.
Freelancers, be cautious. Crowdspring is no longer a reliable platform.
Complaint Against CrowdSpring
CrowdSpring is not paying its creatives. I am yet another professional harmed by the platform. I have prize payments totaling $1,450 USD that have been withheld for over five months. On April 30, 2025, I was abruptly removed from the platform.
This is a recurring pattern, as reported by dozens of other creatives who have faced similar issues: non-payment, lack of support, and account removal. The company follows a familiar pattern — ongoing delays, complete silence in response to legitimate payment requests, and eventually, the professional is removed from the platform.
#SCAMMER ALERT! A Cautionary Tale crowdspring.com
I am writing this review to warn others about my extremely negative experience with Crowdspring. I initially joined the platform with high hopes of finding freelance work and collaborating with creative clients, but what I encountered was nothing short of a nightmare.
First and foremost, I want to emphasize that Crowdspring has all the hallmarks of a scam. I had over $2000 in my account when, out of nowhere, my account was suspended without any prior notification or explanation. Imagine working hard and accumulating funds only to find yourself locked out of your own earnings. I have all the screenshots to prove the transactions and communications I had before they decided to suspend my account without warning.
Attempts to contact customer service were futile. They were unresponsive and dismissive, leaving me feeling frustrated and cheated. It’s as if they do not care about the designers or freelancers using their platform. If you think you can safely earn money here, think again. The lack of transparency and support makes this platform feel like a trap designed to take advantage of creative individuals looking for a legitimate income.
If you're considering using Crowdspring, please think twice. My recommendation is to stay far away from this platform. You deserve a reliable and trustworthy environment to showcase your work, and Crowdspring is anything but that. Save yourself the trouble, and look elsewhere for freelance opportunities, because trusting Crowdspring could cost you both time and money. #SCAMMER ALERT! #Crowdspring, #freelanceScame, #designSCAMMER
Extremely Disappointed
Extremely Disappointed – Crowdspring Exploits Designers!
I strongly advise all designers to stay far away from Crowdspring. The platform is incredibly exploitative. After completing a project and delivering high-quality work, I never received payment. Communication with support was non-existent, and deadlines were ignored.
Ross Kimbarovsky, the founder, seems to care more about profits than people. Designers are treated like disposable tools. There’s no real protection for creatives, and the whole process feels like a scam – you do the work, they ghost you.
There are far better platforms out there that actually value and respect their creative community. Crowdspring is not one of them. Designers beware.
