DrChrono’s iPad and iPhone compatible EHR and medical billing platform allows users to manage patient intake, clinical charting, billing, and revenue cycle management. It includes customizable medical forms, e-prescribing, scheduling tools, real-time patient eligibility checks, and a patient portal. The DrChrono App Directory also offers a multitude of apps and a medical API for healthcare app developers. The DrChrono EHR offers fully customizable forms or prebuilt forms. Any prescription, including Electronic Prescribing Controlled Substances, can be sent electronically on iPhone, iPad, or the Internet. Lab orders can be submitted electronically to over 40,000 labs around the United States; results can then be directly uploaded into the patient’s chart. Custom vitals give providers the ability to create baseline health data and monitor each patient’s health measurements over time. Providers can use Free Draw function to annotate on diagrams, x-rays or other files; they can also use the iPad's built-in cameras to take pictures and embed them in the patient's record. The system comes pre-populated with billing codes and is integrated with Box, a HIPAA-compliant cloud storage system.

Overpriced EHR with limited functionality
Before signing a one-year contract with DrChrono, consider your options. I'm halfway through my contract and have decided to switch to a different EHR despite having to pay for the remaining months. DrChrono will not let you out of the contract early.
DrChrono's EHR is more expensive than other options despite its limited functionality. Basic features such as self-scheduling and appointment reminders require additional paid apps due to poor design. Onboarding patients is so frustrating that I had to hire a virtual assistant to walk them through the process. Telehealth appointments frequently have issues with black screens. DrChrono lacks basic features such as allowing patients to add their own credit card information.
When I informed DrChrono that I would not renew my contract at the end of my current term, they immediately attempted to terminate my account with the insurance clearinghouse, which could have prevented me from getting paid. Overall, this EHR is disappointing and I regret signing the contract.

Buyer beware
The actual product does not measure up to marketing promises. Migrating patient data over was a nightmare, and there were significant extra costs that were not mentioned up front. Getting EPCS set up had several bugs, resulting in days of prescription delays and a return to writing Rx's for all my patients. The product is not worth the cost.

Sinking ship - don't buy this product
We have been using DrChrono since 2012. The Ipad part is great. The web part for practice management, scheduling, billing etc. hasn't been updated since 2012. I don't think they even have anybody there to work on problems as nothing is ever changed or improved. This morning I logged on and half my screen is not viewable on the PC. Customer service is useless. There standard answer is to clear your cache. They don't try to help or reproduce the problem. I have had several bugs reported that sit open and are never fixed. We are unable to use Patient Education anymore as it doesn't work. Bugs sit and don't get resolved so I don't think they have anyone left in their company that knows how to write software. It seems like the company that bought it is only interested in the revenue from current customers and doesn't maintain it properly. Forget about enhancements. The billing company I use said it would be better to use an entirely separate billing system and do dual data entry into that system rather than continue to use DrChrono. The product is becoming truly awful. It is a sinking ship - don't buy it.

I have used DrChrono for 7 years
I have used DrChrono for 7 years. First few were ok but took a lot of work to get the system right. The last few have been horrible and now rank this company as one of the worst I have ever dealt with. Customer service is hideous, no level of customer care. They are just looking for ways to increase fees and provide less service.

Mediocre EHR, decent but with many issues
We use this EHR for a psychiatry practice. It meets our needs though comes with several downsides. The user interface is often times not intuitive and is cluttered. Heavy website can be slow to load in certain pages. ICD code and rx integration could be better. Poor website design leads to inefficiencies in time management which are key to running a good medical practice. There is no way to work one on one with the designers to improve website design or function. Customer service is mediocre though they try.
The worst system... Do not do it!
The worst system! Do not do it! They have the worst customer service and sell you things that are no true! It has been the biggest nightmare for the last 4 months.

This used to be a great company
This used to be a great company. In the last year they’ve gone completely downhill. They jacked up the prices 40% and now they have incredible downtime that will ruin your day as a practitioner.

Money hungry company
This company only cares about its bottom line. They have no proper loyalty to their customers, nor care to keep them.

AVOID THEM. SERVICE IS TERRIBLE.
I have been with DrChrono for about 10 years - a "loyal" customer. At the time we signed on we knew it was a fairly new company in a "new world" of EHR. The concept is great. I created many custom templates. The big problem, as many other reviewers have noted, is HORRIBLE SERVICE and also frequent breakdowns. I was promised MANY times that I would have ONE contact person. Not only did this not happen until recently, but on the occasions when someone in the past told me they WERE the contact person, a few days later they were no longer with Chrono, and I was told they do NOT offer a single point of contact for service. They don't leave phone numbers to call unless you manage to get one from someone answering your emails. Overall, I find the system easy to use WHEN IT WORKS, but service is so poor I regret wasting all these years trying to get good service. Also, when they switched to a new cloud service, the up time went the H-E double hockey sticks. Their service performance site completely misrepresents their uptime (or should I say downtimes). Even today, the on patient portal was NOT functioning well enough to consent patients in a timely way. It was NOT listed as having a problem. We see this time and time again. There are many other service issues. I'm glad I never used their billing given what I read above. AVOID THIS COMPANY. They do NOT live up to the promises of the product which has great potential. SERVICE is everything. I don't feel that their service leadership truly understands what it means to not have good communication, rapid resolution of problems, and true customer satisfaction for a medical practice that is small. It is highly disruptive when it goes down, and at times you can't even report a problem since doing so requires the system to be up and running!
PS: I just read the response below. The response is exactly what I've been told MANY MANY times over the past 10 years regarding this same issue of poor service. Frankly, I would venture to guess this is not a PEOPLE problem. It is a system problem. You really need to assign a single person (with clearly identified back up when that person is on vacation or not available) as a service point of contact that would include sales/service/etc. The T-Mobile service model might be applied. Ergo, the response to this is more of the same and an indication that once again the system is completely failing customers that need service. And believe me, this is hardly the only "down" time they have, and their charts/graphs of down time don't come close to showing service problems.

I have used Dr Chrono for several years and have been completely happy. The program is easy to use and the customer service is a 10 plus. I am very happy with the billing department. They are fast and I rarely have to take any time to fix any billings. I would rate them a 10 on all levels.

It is cloud based (web/hosted) so it can be accessed anywhere. There are many available features we aren't even using yet. We changed from a much older system missing many features and are so far very pleased.

This is the most labor intensive and user unfriendly electronic medical record system on the market today. Their sales people lie about multiple aspects of the program and are just done with you as soon as they collect the $200 and pass go!
My one star is based solely on support…
My one star is based solely on support and customer service. I have been in practice for 30 years and used chrono for the past couple of years. They have by far the WORST technical support team of any company I have ever dealt with, not just EMR. Their response time is extremely slow. Then and even after a "ticket is set up, problems are rarely addressed. I have several issues that have not been addressed going on one year. Stay away
New Dermatology Practice
In starting my practice, I did several EMR demos. Dr Chrono was by far the easiest to navigate, customize, and understand. The support staff has been extremely responsive, and I've never felt like the system lacked for anything. My billing team likes the interface for their services as well. Best of all, the price point is difficult to beat. I feel that going with Dr Chrono was the single best decision in starting my new practice and I have already recommended many of my dermatology colleagues to their program.
They are dishonest
They are dishonest. They do not tell you they outsource their billing to another country (India) and patients calls are directed to (Thailand). I specifically asked to have my billing done in my region (not even knowing they plan to outsource) and was promised it wouldn’t be an issue. It was during training (if u can call it that!) we realized the above facts. Training is also done from India and time difference puts them doing it at 2 am their time, half sleep, perfunctory overview, and only half hour instead of full hour spent. We decided not to use dr Chrono when we were training. Never used the program or billing, as we were dissatisfied. Now they want $65,000.
Stay away. We plan to file a class action suit as other physicians have had these issues. Write if u also were lied to.
Wonderful
Wonderful, intuitive program with excellent support. What more could you want from an EMR. It is the best of the programs we have used over the last 20 years. I would recommend DrChrono without hesitation!
unethical billing practice
I used to be a drchrono customer but had moved on to a different EHR. When an old client requested records I contacted drchono and they agreed to let me access records in a read only format. I failed to read their lengthy contract fully and have ended up paying for 18 months of access ($900) despite only needing one client record. Although their actions may be legal they are unethical and I want to warn other clinicians about them.
