“Application Ref: 4002449113 – Submitted 6 March.
Over 20 days with no university contact despite repeated follow-ups.
This delay is now affecting my visa status and family situation.
Formal complaint already submitted – requesting urgent action.

The UK governments advice is that you can assess your foreign degree that was taught in English to bypass the need to take the SELT test. Your degree must be "equivalent to UK Bachelors level degree". My degree has been assessed by Eccits previously and was confirmed to be equivalent to a UK Bachelors level degree and was taught in English. A few days after applying for English equivalency assessment it was rejected as they considered my degree was not equivalent to a UK bachelors degree. Upon raising the complaint I was told that they have separate criteria for assessing degrees for the English equivalency assessment. £250 wasted due to poor instructions. Beware!

Terrible experience with Ecctis.
My application was rejected because "a couple modules weren’t taught in English", even though most of my degree was. Their customer service is terrible, they never answered my calls, replied with generic emails to my enquiries and probably spent 2sec on the application without considering all the supporting documents. This is unacceptable.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND DO A TEST

Just a simple email saying unable to verify my dad's qualification. Nothing else.
Dad's tried to chat to them to find out where they'd send the email to ask for his uni to respond, no telling my dad of that.
Dad's tried to provide correct details for the team to resend their verification request- this is refused by them.
Ridiculous company- rules are ridiculous anyways what good person will tell someone they need to verify their degree from Australia to say their English level meets requirements?! The least you can do is make sure you send verification request to the right contacts, take ownership and resend if there are better contacts for this purposes.
DO YOUR JOB BETTER!!!

Horrible experience. Wasted £240.
There is no direct way to verbally communicate with the team. Late replies and ignore your messages. Avoid at all cost
My experience was very disappointing. I paid a significant fee, only to find that the process involved little more than sending a single email to my college.
After sending the email, there was no real attempt to follow up or contact the college through other channels. Instead, ECCTIS simply waited twenty days and then marked the verification as unsuccessful.
Anyone who has dealt with academic institutions knows that these kinds of requests often require reminders or contact with different departments before a response is received. Unfortunately, ECCTIS did not make that effort.
When I raised the issue, the response I received pointed only to their terms and conditions rather than addressing the lack of follow-up.
In the end, I had to take an English language test and continue my application on my own. This is something I could have done from the beginning, which would have saved me time, money, and frustration.
Based on this experience, I would recommend that others consider taking a recognised English language test instead of relying on ECCTIS verification if they want to avoid delays and unnecessary costs

I submitted my application for a QLS check on February 24, 2026. A few days later, I was asked to upload a letter from my university to confirm that my education was conducted in English, despite this information being included in my transcript. After uploading the document to the portal, I received an update on March 5, 2026, stating that my application had been accepted for review and was awaiting a response from my university. Unfortunately, I have not received any updates since then.
I have confirmed with my university that they have not received any emails (including from spam or junk folders) from either Ecctis or the third-party verification team. When I call the Ecctis helpline at 0330 912 0040, I consistently receive the same standard response: they are unable to provide further updates.
Reading reviews on Trustpilot and other social media platforms only increases my anxiety. I am running out of time because my current visa is about to expire. I really cannot afford to wait for the full 20 days or to appeal if my application is returned as "unable to verify," which has happened to many other applicants.
I am losing hope in Ecctis, as their communication lacks transparency. It seems that Ecctis is not fulfilling its responsibilities, especially after charging such a significant fee of £265. The previous reviews indicate that my situation is not an isolated case.
I sincerely hope that Ecctis will reconsider my case and provide me with assistance or, at the very least, an update on my application.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with ECCTIS regarding the verification of my degree certificate.
My application began in the first week of February, but in the first week of March the status was changed to “Unable to Verify.” I then contacted ECCTIS to understand the reason and was advised to contact my university. When I did so, the university confirmed that they have "not received any verification request from ECCTIS", including in their spam folders, and therefore they are unable to proceed with the verification.
The process feels unnecessarily complicated and unrealistic. Large universities have multiple departments, and verification requests can easily be missed if there is no follow-up or confirmation. In some universities such verification processes may not even exist in the expected format, although in my case the university has confirmed they are willing to verify my degree once they receive the request.
I asked ECCTIS to either resend the verification email or confirm which university department the request was originally sent to. However, they have declined to disclose even the department to which the request was sent (I understand they may not wish to disclose the email address).
What is particularly frustrating is the "lack of transparency in the service". I have already provided a "NARIC certificate for degree comparison" and a "letter issued by the university in 2007 confirming that my degree was taught in English". As ECCTIS is the successor to NARIC, I expected this evidence to be considered. Instead, I continue to receive standard responses stating that they are following Home Office instructions. At the very least, there should be a recheck or follow-up when no response is received from the university.
I also paid "£252 for this service", which appears to involve sending a single verification email with "no follow-up with the university or department". Even after informing ECCTIS that the university did not receive the original email, they are unwilling to resend the request. This leaves the applicant feeling extremely "frustrated and helpless in trying to complete the process".
At present, this seems to be the only forum where ECCTIS provides any response, as direct communication results only in generic replies. I would appreciate it if someone from ECCTIS could properly review my case and others where responses from universities may not have been received and help resolve this issue so that the verification process can move forward.
Ultimately, this should simply require resending a verification request from an authorised ECCTIS source to the university rather than relying solely on an automated email. I would also request ECCTIS to review and improve this process. As this is a mandatory service with a significant fee, it should work reliably for all applicants. This could be a useful "lesson-learned exercise" to improve the process going forward.
Huge thanks to "TrustPilot".

Amazing service form the ECCTIS team. They they were in contact with me and immediately updated my applicaiton once verification was recieved from my university. The whole process took time but it at the end I was very happy and satisfied on positive outcome

My case may well have been the case of many who, at the end of the 20 days, I received an 'Unable to verify' outcome on my submission. After paying so much money and done all I could do, this was very confusing for me but I managed to trace where the delay was, and it was my institution that had delayed in responding even after they had confirmed to me that they had responded. I submitted an appeal to Ecctis which was reviewed by a specialist and in the end my review was pushed through, and I received a positive outcome. I was worried that my case would just be generalised and my appeal would just be denied; however, I can confidently say that they looked at my case with care and considered all the evidence that was presented. My feedback would be that the communication needs to improve, and more updates (even automated ones) should be provided throughout the journey to keep the applicant informed and to give the applicant peace of mind.
