Beware: Cancelled rental without explanation or compensation
We booked a place in France (Hendaye) through the website, paid 2 installments of the holiday rental, paid the deposit, even received a request to pay the balance...2 days after we received a mail notification that our 12 day stay was cancelled by the owner of the property. No explanation, no mention of compensation in the mail, and just when we thought we had all our ducks in a row, throwing all our 5 week holiday plans into disarray. Hendaye is a popular tourist town, so no way are we now going to find anything suitable at the same price for us ( a couple) and my 80 year old mother-in-law with mobility issues. Plus, the whole "myhomein" arrangement is opaque. We booked through the site, but on reading the conditions more closely, have entered into a contract with the owner themselves, who in turn seems to be represented by an agent called Welkeys, none of whom seem perturbed by breaking the clause stating that the owner is not supposed to cancel the rental except under exceptional circumstances. Extremely disappointed. Considering legal action and taking them to the French consumer protection services (DGCCRF).
