VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE – THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING
I booked Halswell Lodge – Motel through Expedia approximately two weeks in advance for 3 adults and 2 children. We had a confirmed booking for a two-bedroom apartment from 17–18 September 2026.
When we arrived, the room we were allocated (Room 30) had clearly not been cleaned or prepared. Bedding was left lying around the room, and I have photographic evidence of the condition.
Reception then offered us another room. When we entered it, there were already other guests staying in the room. We were then told there were no other rooms available because the property was fully booked.
We therefore could not use the accommodation we had paid for.
What followed was just as frustrating. I made approximately 12–15 attempts to contact the property by phone and also returned on 18 September, where I waited around 40 minutes in an unattended lobby trying to get assistance. I emailed management and submitted a complaint through their website, but my correspondence was not properly addressed.
I also contacted Expedia seeking a refund. Expedia advised me that they had contacted the property, but the property refused the refund waiver and Expedia subsequently upheld the property's cancellation policy.
I am now still seeking approximately $280 in reimbursement, including the accommodation payment, $100 bond and $15 parking fee.
The issue here was not simply cancelling a booking. We arrived with a confirmed, prepaid reservation, but the accommodation provided was not ready, the alternative room was already occupied, and there was no other room available.
I am extremely disappointed with both the standard of service at the property and the way the refund issue has been handled.
I have retained photographs, booking records, correspondence and other evidence and have now escalated the matter to the relevant parties for investigation.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this accommodation, Prospective guests should be aware of my experience before making a booking through them.
Zero star for Expedia , everything about this company is bad and they misleading customers. Customers service run by AI very difficult to get hold of them. AVOID at all costs or you will be sorry for your lost.
We reserved accommodations for our trip to Australia through Expedia. The booking was for a property named Tranquil Taringa, located in Indooroopilly, featuring two beds and accommodating four guests, with Bridget listed as the host.
Upon our arrival, the premises were found to be in an unacceptable state of cleanliness. It appeared that no cleaning had been performed since the previous occupants. We observed soiled bedding, stained towels, residual waste, widespread hair, and food debris on the cutlery, among other issues.
Considerable time was spent by our party in cleaning the accommodation. We subsequently contacted the host, who issued a partial refund. We requested a full refund, but this request was not addressed to our satisfaction, and communication channels have since been blocked. We are now escalating this matter....
On May 31st 2026 I booked accommodation and flights with Expedia NZ. The accommodation was for January 2027 (Aussy Open) at The Mark on Collins the return flights are with Qantas. On Friday June 12th 2026 Expedia informed me that The Mark was no longer able to honour my reservation due to Permanent Property Closure and I would receive a refund for the cost I paid for accommodation. My problem is I can not get a refund for the flights because they are non refundable flghts. Qantas say I have to deal with the travel agents Expedia say they can only stick to the rules so I am $2000NZ out of pocket. My smile is now a frown. I spent Saturday morning pleading with Expedia, even had a call from America (Expedia), no joy no sympathy but they did offer a $75 good will gesture if I booked another hotel online.
I bought a flight through Expedia. Unfortunately the flight was cancelled and Expedia doesn't want to refund the flight. First they promised to grt back to me within 3 days. After 4 days of not hearing back from them I contacted them again. This time they refused to tell me when they'd be getting in touch with me regarding my refund. Never buy your flights from Expedia if you want to get your money back in a cancellation situation!
Terrible customer support.
Refusing to refund a booking we were unable to access. Never use this site and book direct.
We booked a holday via the Air New Zealand App. Paid and confirmed. So we booked and paid for flights transfers etc. Them randomly expedia cancelled our holiday. No notification or reason. We're still waiting to hear from them, its been 10 months!
No contact or assistance to change or cancel flights with JAL as booked through Expedia.
Expedia directs you to JAL.
JAL returns you to Expedia.
Expedia AI was the only way to communicate, leaving us shortchanged. Never use Expedia.
Do NOT use Expedia. This is a warning - they are not only terrible but do not comply with New Zealand law.
They do not offer a complaints solution about themselves. Sure, you can complain about a hotel - but Expedia do not take complaints about their own service.
I have tried requesting my data under the Privacy Act 2020 - they refuse to give it which is illegal in New Zealand. It's virtually impossible to even make a request. Their Agents will only send you coipies of reservations and say they cannot send anything else. They accept no liability for errors.
They emailed me someone else's booking cancellation - and told me I must have done it. The arrogance and ineptitude is staggering.
I can only urge people to NOT use this company - or do so at your own risk. Avoid.
I booked a return flight from the UK to NZ with Expedia. I spent 3 hours on the phone trying to change it, only to find out it had been cancelled - the reason given was 'we can't debit your credit card to make the change' despite the fact this was the card they held on file. I finally managed to talk to a supervisor to rebook the flight and then it was booked at the incorrect time! By this time I had complete despair over having to phone again thankfully the last guy I spoke to had fixed it for the correct time or date. The calls go through to India and the agents are unable to think outside the box or solve problems, & don't even LISTEN to what you are asking for. I would recommend anyone avoid booking with them! I will book directly with airlines wherever possible to save time and hassle in future!
