Food grade ethanol or what!
This company liquid essence came up at the top of Google search. I bought Ethanol 96% stated on bottle front along with 200proof written, well that should have been a red flag but I thought it was just sloppy labelling. They state on their website" Ethanol distilled from organic wheat, Food grade and not denatured , suitable for tincture making, lemon cello etc.". It arrived quickly. I noticed there is no batch number, the batch number area is left blank, it also doesn't state "not denatured" on the bottle. It does not smell like grain source alcohol like Spirytus, it doesn't smell clean. The bottle claims it has passed Gas Chromatography testing, I requested the test results, but have had no response. I requested COA in another email, they said they would send it but didn't. I waited patiently and received nothing further from company. Nearly 30 Days after receipt I asked for COA again or a refund by the end of business that day. They couldn't come up with any evidence to prove what they were selling, they issued a refund, and didn't ask for the product back.. That points to a big problem IMO, anyone selling a legitimate product would surely provide the proof rather than refund the product cost and postage cost.
I paid via PayPal. The contact email address provided in PayPal sent me down a rabbit hole, exactly the same as another review says. Internet searches on this company say this company was using the name of liquidessences.co formerly liquidessence.co, which was subject to a trading standards investigation through Norfolk trading standards, revealing that their food grade ethanol was in fact medical grade. The name of the PayPal account is "Magical Candle Light" that name doesn't bring up anything in search, payment on bank statement says levelle. None of the company names link to any limited company on companies house, magic candle light doesn't sound like a legitimate food grade ethanol supplier. No duty had been paid. Very limited info on the bottle. What is in this clear liquid, who knows. Cancer causing additives, who knows, even the seller cannot tell me. I told the seller please provide me with proof as I want it for human consumption in tinctures, only one reply was, "my dear, it is fine, nothing to worry about" I obviously won't be consuming this stuff. They didn't want me to return the bottle so I will use it for cleaning. I will look into how to report this company, I have no knowledge of where they are based either. This is very worrying as I can see by internet search that people are using this for tinctures, liquors, lemon cello, or just proofing down and drinking. Please be careful people. . The thought of this circulating in the UK is quite worrying.
