Bought a car last year from these guys…

Bought a car last year from these guys and was initially very happy. Came with a full clear MoT. When the next MoT came due this year, with only a couple of thousand miles extra on the clock, I expected not to have any problems other than perhaps an advisory or two. WRONG. Instant fail. The EML light wasn't working. Took it to the manufacturers main dealer for a full diagnostic check. Turns out someone had tampered with the instrument cluster and covered the EML to disguise the fact that it was on, indicating a fault. So, I had been driving the car for a year with a warning light on that I knew nothing about. Cost over a Grand to get the fault fixed. SO, buyer Beware. Obviously can't prove who tampered with the EML but should definitely have been spotted during the MoT test before I got the car. The "clear" MoT I got should have never been issued.

Absolute conmen

Avoid this place at all costs, got car home to find one of the side steps wasn't bolted on and hanging off after driving 40 miles on motorway which made me look bit closer at this car which GRANT 🐔said was serviced and ready to go haha if only, 1 tyre with a slow puncture,engine under cover was missing gained a nice set of vice grips tho cheers for those, car hadn't been serviced in a long time gauging by the air and oil n filter, oh and you will probably have to spend another £25 and apply for a log book yourself because GRANT will tell you hes done it but he definitely wont .dont wast your cash here on half a car and dont even dream of after sales care or the generic warranty they give you CHEERS GRANT.

Would never use again!

Would never use again, bought range rover evoque, they put new brakes on which were never tightened properly and I had to replace again 1 month later, new timing chain 2 months in. Had my mechanic do all the work as I didn't want to put it back to them, I'd rather take the hit than let them touch it again! They also male you sign a 30 day warranty so after this they will just deny everything!

Worse decision ever buying from this garage

I would give no stars if I could. My son bought a car from them which I financed. 4 months after purchase in June 25 it had a catastrophic engine failure. Contacted Consumer Advice Scotland and followed their procedure to see if could get fixed, upshot is Formula One were not interested said the problem was down to whoever was driving it. Independent garage said otherwise. Formula One were very disrespectful and unprofessional in relation to independent mechanic who had 20 years experience. Tried to use Section 75 to get money off credit card, but because Formula One return deposits on credit cards and insist on bank transfers this turned out to be a no go. Took it to Financial Ombudsman but they backed up credit card company. Went to Motor Ombudsman who say Formula One not accredited with them so despite this garage saying if you are not happy with their decision you can go to Motor Ombudsman it means they will not undertake an investigation and therefore the garage cannot be held to account. Motor Ombudsman can only act as mediator. The case has been referred to two Trading Standards Falkirk and West Lothian. Watch this space! The point I'm making is we are £6990 out of pocket and I would NOT recommend this garage. It has taken us 8 months to get to this stage. 8 months on an emotional rollacoaster that has taken it's toll. There are many, many other reviews on various sites on the Web that concur with this. Steer clear for your financial and mental health wellbeing.

So good I bought 2 cars in a year from them.

I bought a car from them Sept 24, service I received from them was really good, so much so we went back for another car Sept 25. Had an issue with battery after warranty was up but they still put a new one in for me at no charge. Service I received was impeccable, twice!

CONMEN!

where do i start well if i could give a zero star review i would they dont even deserve the 1 star!! first things first AVOID!!! bought a car from formula1 falkirk in december 2024 only had the car months!i tried to return the car within the first month but was fobbed off and felt intimidated by them and due to having alot of personal stuff going on i couldnt deal with the hassle as they were being very difficuilt with me. ever since this car left this place it has been problem after problem and issue after issue and anytime you call them well they dont wanna know! they have their money thats all that matters!the car has had multiple faults! i reported from the first month i bought this car as i wanted to return the car not long after purchase to be exact in the first week i had the car!my concerns were always ignored or fobbed off!now i have recently discovered the car is a recovered STOLEN a fact that was not disclosed at sale as i would have avoided at all costs!!! this car was not of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose,and far from free from fault!!huge failure to disclose the vehicles history even though they claimed they had done all checks and car had not even been in a minor accident and in immaculate condition with a good clear history i was told!!!they failed to disclose the cars history!and all of the ONGOING mechanical failures!!!now i have been left with no choice but to report them to trading standards since they have been not interested and far from cooperative to sort the issue!!! wish i checked their reviews before i bought from them which i didnt and wish i had done my own car checks on the vehicle but i trusted them!!!

Consumer Rights Act 2015

Has anyone actually ever managed to get their money back after being sold a faulty car (within the first 30 days of leaving the garage) without it being made extremely difficult? The 1 star reviews from several customers being forced to go to trading standards and follow up a refund through their finance company, and still struggling to get their money back is astonishing. Please reach out to me on social media with your experiences. This is making me very concerned about the same situation I am going through at the moment. I am unable to drive the Range Rover they sold me in July 2025. Proven by diagnostic the vehicle has required a brand new DPF since March 2025 and failed its MOT in June 2025 due to this, before suddenly passing its MOT days before it was sold to me. The engine management light appeared before I even got home on the day i picked up the vehicle.
They should not be using the 30 day warranty as an excuse not to ensure vehicles are reliable and safe before customers hand over their money. Clearly not concerned about the amount of distress and inconvenience this causes buyers when this occurs.

Great car at a fair price

Boyd made the whole process of buying a used car really straightforward. The car was fairly priced and in great condition and very accurately described. We had been looking for a while and knew what we wanted, when this one came up for sale and was as describe it was an easy decision from there. Many thanks

Formula One Car Supermarket Buyer Beware

Hello,
after purchasing a Land rover Sport from this dealership on the 3rd July 2025 and the car passing Mot, Warranty, and being checked by loan company it broke down 11 days later, i had to wait for the company to arrange transport to get the vehicle back to the garage being told it would take a couple of days. Several days later, i had to call them and ask how the car was, "they are working on it as we speak" said Grant. of course this went on for sometime and then i was offered a curtesy car, a extremely dirty Mitsubishi, this car broke down just as I reached my house! I contacted them about my car and they had discovered after quite some time, it was the timing belt," two days". Grant said again and he arranged the pickup of the curtesy car that broke down, and replaced it with a XF Jaguar. the delivery driver told me the boot didn't lock? I opened the door and I thought the first curtsey car was dirty the second was worse! I tried to lock the door and they would not lock, I spoke to the delivery driver, Who informed me "just picked it up mate, not been tested yet"! I called Grant and got no reply as it was late, I would call him the following day. Now to my astonishment not only did this car doors and boot not lock it had the speed of a tortoise on a skateboard and the breaks extremely spongy. I called no answer, sent messages for them to collect the car as the breaks, speed and doors made this car a death trap and i would not drive this vehicle.

I called again and spoke to a rude man, when i asked about my car, I was told " he was not psychic"! The following day I called back and was told Grant was on holiday but the person i spoke to was Lee who now informed me that the car needed a new oil pump timing chain and other things done and it could take up to 8 weeks. i said know totally unacceptable. contacted loan company and began unwound from finance. Paul was dealing with this and promised to return funds, never happened now the company are going through legal procedures. Now that sounds all well and good but, because of this dealer i am paying for a car i don't have. So if you are thinking of buying a car from this company, DON'T. I am now contacting trading standards and the ombudsman. in my opinion this company are doing things illegally, As they have not returned the refund they agreed to do, the car technically is still financially locked and can't be sold, yet they are advertising this car for sale? Does this sound like a thing a reputable dealership would do? more information will be updated soon.

Great service and selection

I have bought a few cars from Boyd and george at formula 1 and the service I received was excellent. They have a fantastic selection of cars and they go out of their way to help if there are any niggling problems. Used cars are used cars but I feel I’ve found a dealer I can trust as they look after me.

I bought a discovery sport last march…

I bought a discovery sport last march everything was working brilliant in it until in july 4 month into having the car the car set on fire with no reason at all while driving with my children in the car i got out to get the kids out and the car went into dead lock trapping the kids inside while the car started to in light lucky a passer-by er helped saved my childrens lives that day its a experience i will
Never dream to go through or anyone else so to that i would never but a second hand car again !! And all the car dearer ship could say was we're sorry to hear that happened

DO NOT BUY HERE. I did my research and decided “people only tell the bad stuff online” and went ahead with the purchase. Read the reviews and trust your gut feeling. Pay attention to the state of the cars on the forecourt. Buying here was the WORST and most costly mistake I’ve ever made. I’ll fully expect some smarmy response but if this stops one family experiencing the distress and loss that we have due to this company then my review is worth it. Please do not give this excuse for a business your hard earned money. I’ve finally just handed the car back to the finance company as I would not have selling it on, on my conscience.

I would also add that my complaint has been registered with the finance company who have agreed that the car was likely faulty at point of sale and covered expenses of almost £5000 however this was only part of my costs therefore as I was unhappy with the full final response I have escalated this to FoS.

Bought a knackered Mercedes C63, wouldn't fix it or refund money. They don't honour their warranty! AVOID!!

Having seen a Focus ST I liked at the Glasgow Road garage in Camelon, I contacted the garage and spoke to a Mr Craig, we agreed I’d come and see the car and have a chat. I was assured the car would be “tip top” by Mr Boyd Craig as the wheels needed a refurb, the car would be valeterd, MOT’d, service etc in time for me collecting. Upon seeing the car the clutch felt extremely heavy and already having owned the exact same car I knew this wasn’t normal so asked for it to be looked at and changed if necessary.
After a few WhatsApp messages we agreed on what was to happen. However a personal family matter had came to light unexpectedly and I had to cancel the finance. This was not met with concern, it was met with hate and resentment. This was all within the 14 days cooling off period so I asked the finance company for an unwind of finance be sent to the garage. Mr Craig Boyd assured me this would be done asap by his manager Mr Paul Cowan, this was not done at all.
I called to cancel the finance on the morning of 13th August 2024, and was met with nothing but questions from Mr Boyd asking why, I then explained my situation and they were having none of it. They took my £300 deposit on the 9th August and then said it’d only be available as a credit note. This was not discussed from the start and the entire staff were not transparent in their sales techniques. After countless phone calls to their offices to get hold of Mr Cowan their sales manager, the sales staff answered their calls to me in such a disgusting manner that It was beyond a joke.
A simple call from their sales manager to speak to me instead of several emails to Mr Craig, Mr Cowan and the owner Mr Sinclair, not one person called me back. If such a cowboy outfit exists it’s these bunch of morons. They just want to take hard earned peoples money and not have a shred of aftercare. They have roughly 10 good reviews but upon looking deeper into this shoddy garage it got even worse.
Upon me calling the finance company to chase the garage for the finance, it took 5 weeks for them to return the money!!! The garage kept an open finance agreement for a customer that did not own the car nor drive it. They also gained several £££ on interest.

Since they thought they’d get away with trying to scam me I decided to seek additional advice from Trading Standards, upon which they sent them two letters with their intentions if the funds were not returned. I also had to seek advice from my solicitor too which is still ongoing.

As I received the V5c for the car in record time, 3 days (which never happens), Mr Craig was fully aware of what he was doing in terms of trying to get a quick deal and move onto the next customer. I asked where the V5c should be sent and I got 3 seconds of a phone call saying “just return it” and got hung up on several times by him and his colleagues.
I was pawned off every single time I called to speak to Mr Cowan or Mr Sinclair and to this day I have not spoken to them on the phone regarding this. (Some management skills). They will not budge on anything you ask if they don’t get their own way, you’d get a much more fulfilling conversation from an infant child.

In conclusion, for anyone wishing to buy a car with the hard earned money you’ve saved up, DO NOT spend it at this horrendous excuse for a car garage. Read the reviews first and foremost and save yourself the absolute headache of trying to speak to these incompetent people. The only decent guy I managed to chat to was a called Grant and is based at the other Garage.
These type of people should not be selling anything let alone cars. The fix them up cheap and then make them work for a couple weeks/months then you end up left with a vehicle that’s not fit for purpose and you’ll be left out of pocket, esp if you put done a heft deposit!
Proof of this has been traced to Ford specialists garages who’ve had to try fix around 10 Focus ST sold previously by here. For them to tell the customer their “new” car is a bag of mince and been driven like it’s been stolen and had numpty technicians work on them and cut corners just to save a few quid! It’s laughable that they are still in business.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

I would definitely recommend George at formula 1 for anyone looking in the market for a car.

The worst, most unprofessional company!

Worst company I have ever dealt with. I have bought many cars from dealers over the years and this is by far the worst. They are so unprofessional and try pull wool over customers eyes by leaving cars in a mess and "getting away without fixing things". They also hold on to deposits while boasting "They would never hold on to a customers £500 deposit when they have millions of pounds worth of stock". They are extremely unprofessional. Please avoid and pay more at a more reputable dealer, you'll thank yourself later. I wish I had seen these terrible reviews before wasting my time with these guys!

Son has bought his last few cars here, so took me for a look Sat 22/06. Settled on a Discovery, collected on 29/06 happy with car and service, all the staff good to deal with. Boyd looked after us well and sure if there are any issues they will be resolved. Thanks again, Iain 😁

DONT GO TO FORMULA ONE

The absolute worse experience I have ever had buying a car, would not even recommend to my worse enemy! The service was absolutely appalling and the “service” done to the car was even worse bought almost 2 months ago and been able to drive it 6 days total, don’t expect anything good if you go there, joke of a company!

I would like to add to the review in further detail as they seem to be brushing over the facts and details of the situation.

1. I had the car for 2 days when the clutch had burnt out, clearly it was a poor service that had been done to the car in the first place, it isn’t a “goodwill gesture” when you’re handing out warranty’s that cover repairs needed in the first 30 days, so don’t kid on it’s out of kindness when you have a job to stick to warranty’s you provide. So this “goodwill gesture” shouldn’t have happened in the first place if it was looked at correctly by a qualified professional.

2. The curtesy car I would say wasn’t up to standard as the passenger door didn’t open, on the dash it would come up engine power reduced and barely made it to the speed limit, and was covered in mud and bird poo when handed to me. “more expensive” as if it’s meant to be impressive when what would be more impressive is if the car I had financed with actually worked! So well done on doing your job and giving me a car whilst you fixed the car you gave me in the first place, should be very proud lol.

3. You agreed to unwind the agreement but here I am still waiting for a refund with no car and had no response about a refund in the slightest, reply to reviews on google but not emails ( very embarrassing) look forward to seeing the response of my review but not my email.

4. I was given 1 days notice to return the car which I had responded that I need to wait for a family or friends to be free for me to get home after returning the car. You did not contact me within the 3 weeks of me having this car other than this past few days where I was told I was took off the insurance so couldn’t return it. So there was no “multiple attempts” and I got 2 messages within a day to get the car back which I responded to as stated above. Within that time the finance company had told me to keep the car until formula one has responded to them. Formula one said they would collect the car in the morning and to have the keys ready for them, didn’t receive any knowledge about the collection and still had the keys, but somehow the car was no longer outside my house after 6pm as been there all day. I then message to let them know I would let the police know as I had no knowledge of who has collected the car.

Further to their embarrassment of a company I got the response that they apparently feel harassed as I sent one message about letting the police know. when I messaged I was not expecting a response so they willingly messaging me out of their hours of work and would willingly message me back but apparently I’m harassing them? Even tho their number is on Facebook and I used no threatening language or anything to suggest I was harassing them, so can no longer contact them as I was told they would contact the police, clearly a sad attempt to have me not contact them over the funds they owe me!

It’s appalling and embarrassing how they have treated a young pregnant girl just looking for a car that can get me from A to B and looked for no hassle, they have now left me with no car or money, and can’t work due to the stress they have caused me. Should be ashamed of yourselves, could have been handled in an according manner but they clearly don’t know how to do that.

Wouldn’t recommend to satan himself

What a terrible company

Well what a terrible experience my pregnant daughter has had from buying a car from this place. Please listen the car was only driven for 2 days when the clutch went and by day 6, 3 error codes and smoke at 70mph on motorway, they have put them both in danger. The gave a courtesy car that wasnt much better which they have now stolen back. Boyd and the team bullying a pregnant women you are rock bottom. Now no car as the astra is not fit for purpose and in there yard and £7000 in debt.
