Theresa Gahren is one of the most unprofessional frauds I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. Lies to patients. Lies to contacts. Does not help- is not available when patients are in need. Does not help when family addresses larger issues from afar. Does not incorporate family in the transition home of what to expect and how to support a patient. Quite frankly no one at FHE did, but they sure were quick to send a bill after they received their insurance payment!
Nonstop lies. Not helpful. Avoid at all costs. SHATTERPROOF AND FHE are a joke.

I admitted myself to FHE Health in September 2025 after spending weeks researching and calling more than 100 facilities nationwide. I chose this one because I was told, multiple times (in 10–15 phone calls and even by text), that they offered TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) — the only treatment I came here for. After flying from Pennsylvania to Florida at my own expense, I was devastated to learn that this facility has never offered TMS.
Instead, I was pushed into trying Neurofeedback, which I was promised would be daily. It wasn’t. I had to beg and push just to get a few sessions a week — far fewer than the minimum needed for results. I wasted nearly a month of my life and thousands of dollars on a treatment plan that was misrepresented from the start.
Other serious issues:
• My grievance was ignored despite policies promising a 5–7 day response.
• My therapist avoided me, never learning my psychiatric history until days before discharge, and even used the threat of an “AMA discharge” to intimidate me.
• Group facilitators crossed boundaries by oversharing personal, sexual stories that made patients leave groups.
• The kitchen staff are hostile, making patients afraid to ask for food.
• I was denied a copy of my Patient Bill of Rights for over a week.
• Patients in PHP are being charged room and board that they don’t realize insurance won’t cover, which seems deliberately misleading.
I came here voluntarily, not in crisis, seeking a very specific treatment to help with lifelong depression. Instead, I was lied to, manipulated, and left worse off than when I arrived. Even staff admitted I should contact a lawyer.
This was a traumatic experience that no patient should go through. I strongly warn anyone considering FHE Health to ask hard questions, demand proof, and protect yourself from being taken advantage of.

Besides it not being a safe place they have a good program as far as helping you to deal with your thoughts and feelings. The place is on a main highway and street. There is no type of security or any gates. At night you’re not allowed to lock your apartment door, you don’t get any type of emergency contact in case of an emergency overnight. When I asked for an emergency contact I was told to go find a tech in the middle of the night. You won’t really see any techs out there because a lot of them are sleeping. I was discharged early for expressing I was not feeling safe. Not only is the place not safe, they also move people who are not stable in with others. Big safety issue! My main struggle has been not feeling safe and when I voice my opinion they used it against me and discharged me after billing my insurance $500+ a day. Group facilitator Clyde is very unprofessional. I will continue to voice my opinion about this place until changes are made. We deserve a program that really takes care of us and take into consideration our feelings….

I had a family member with this program for a number of months. For most of their stay they probably would have given it one star. However, they are a year sober now. That's how recovery is. Absolutely recommend .

This place only cares about money and shatter proof patients. The director of therapy only cares about money and filling the next bed. They are way understaffed while constantly taking more people in. They are more worried about quantity than the care of patients. If you are in the program for mental health they cause your health to decline. The only consistent thing is inconsistency. ADIS the director is mean, hateful, disrespectful to patients and only wants her behind kissed. If you don’t agree with her, it means your out of your mind. They only worry about what makes their job easy. She brings negativity to the patients and is very disorganized. Group facilitators fail to show up and patients are left alone. Patients are left with no direction and this place leaves patients worst than they came.

I was at FHE Health for 2 weeks. The place was uncomfortable and I refused to do PHP there. At FHE Health, PHP is pretty much the same as residential - 7 days a week of the same thing with no privileges. I really had to advocate for myself over and over again to get basic things done, like getting medicine or getting a question answered. The neuro therapy that they do on you is tDCS which is not FDA approved. tDCS is nothing new, in fact, the treatment is over 100 years old. Having to shuttle back and forth from the cafeteria, and waiting in line for food could take up to 45 minutes when it's all said and done. The food quality there is below average. Most people ordered food from outside sources like Walmart. This place is all about liability and medical will block you from using the gym if you have medical issues. I mention the gym because there isn't much to do outside of class but swim, use the gym, walk the parking lot, or play corn hole. Trying to wash clothes is an ongoing problem. To compare, I've been to two other residential programs that aren't as restrictive and were way more comfortable than FHE Health. If you value comfort, this isn't the place.

FHE Health changed my life. The moment I checked into the shatterproof program I felt the love and care from every staff member here. They will do whatever they can to help you and not only when you’re there but when you leave they make sure to check in monthly to see how you are doing. Thank you FHE Shatterproof you changed my life.

Honestly saved my life! I became aware of more issues that I had other than alcoholism. The tools that were provided have resonated with me on my recovery journey! The Shatterproof program for first responders and military could relate to my experiences and programs to help me were invaluable!! No one likes to ask for help but I am glad I did as I am still here serving, and alive to do so!! My experience started in October 2023 and I still enjoy communication and participation in ongoing recovery . I highly recommend the facility!

I received excellent care here - Dr Shachi, Dana, Art Jacobs, so many amazing techs and people at the facility make it an amazing team. I feel blessed to have found them when I needed it. Thank you!

This place is very well run. Their cafe on their campus has amazing food. Very positive experience. I understand people’s frustrations, nobody goes to rehab on a good day. But FHE is going to give you your best shot.

Since FHE keeps removing my google review of them, it goes to show how much you need to AVOID treatment at their facility. Overall, I do not recommend their mental health program . I was referred here by a mental health line like others in a low, I wish I knew what I was getting into. Here are some overall concerns:
Admissions: They are misleading about access to amenities (gym, pool, etc).
Amenities and outing: you can only go to pool or gym once a day. All these outing to beaches ads a lie, they are not guaranteed and it’s limited space.
Therapists: you’re promised weekly therapy - good luck with that. Many people, myself included, were not seen weekly and the quality of therapists was questionable. Most of them are interns but this is not told to you. The head psychiatrist Dr. Castellon was never around.
Group Therapy: session size wasn’t regulated, mostly run by interns or brand new intern therapists who lacked skill set to handle difficult patients. Many of them read off sheets of paper to guide the topic of the day. Sessions rarely started on time because facilitators were late.
Clinical Team: the clinical director Brad is in way over his head. He was mostly inaccessible, but when you tried to get an answer from him (treatment, discharge plans, etc) he would dodge you like the plague or lie straight to your face. He failed to address any issues, acts like he cares but it’s all a show.
Medical Team: the “doctors” there are not MDs but are referred to as Doctors. Doctor Julia, the “main” doctor, is a Physicians Assistant. It’s quite misleading.
Psychiatrist Team: They boast about Dr. Castillon but I’m not sure he actually exists. You will not see a psychiatrist during your stay there.
Medicine: They tell you they will not change any of your meds when entering but that’s a flat out lie. My meds were changed as were others. And check what they are giving you, I received the wrong meds at times.
Techs: they are truly amazing and are the only ones who really seem to care about the wellbeing of the patients. I would’ve been lost without them.
Advice: Avoid at all costs, find a facility that truly cares and just isn’t in it for the insurance money or cash from the ketamine treatments they push. I and others went to other facilities because of how bad the quality of FHE has declined.

This is nothing more than an insurance scam front in which they will milk your insurance for everything they can and attempt to keep patients admitted to turn a profit.

The techs and nurses constantly on their personal cell phones. They are checking vitals every 2 hours when it was supposed to be every 4 hours in detox. Waking you up at 5:30 am and then screaming breakfast at 7:00 am.
Clearly the Egyptian owner is cheap and not paying licensed professionals for treatment. I didn't go to one group but the one group I tried to give it a shot, the instructor (if that is what you call them, when they have probably been sober 2 months if that) doesn't show up.
The food is horrible, i would rather go to a homeless soup kitchen than eat that garbage. They knock on your door every 15 minutes if you are not a smoker, then they ask me why I don't smoke or vape.?
LOL, so the dietician asks me why my blood sugar is so low (56) and i told her the nurses were over medicating me for my diabetes and I have high BP. So she says ok we will give you a late sandwich so it will bring it back up. I was given the saltiest turkey sandwich, and they take my BP later that night , it was 160/115. Then they ask me if i just smoked a cigarette at 3am. I stayed for 5 days and AMA'd, and then the case manager tried to threaten me that I will die if I leave. I left the next morning. Terrible place

Réponse : FHE Health
FHE response is untrue. I was a patient there. They state that they made :"several attempts to contact" . How could they contact me unless I was a patient there?
They do not respond to issues having to do with roommates who stay up late, making lots of noise disturbing others who want to sleep at a normal time at night.
Roommates often live like pigs. This is a photo of a bed where a roommate sat in her bed.
Also shower curtains are too short. Bathroom floor floods. It took days to get the shower curtain replaced, only after repeated pestering.
They put a schizophrenic, violent person in an apartment with me. Only after three days of my raising red flags and saying she scared me, was she sent to a psychiatric hospital. (She threatened to burn the place down). I felt very unsafe in a place where you are supposed to feel safe.
The general atmosphere encourages cliques.
If you do not smoke tobacco, be prepared for people vaping during group. And wherever you go you accosted by secondhand smoke.
I had Dr. Charlotte Byrd Wilkins as my therapist. Awful. The woman is full of herself. One of the least compassionate mental health professionals I have ever met. She spent most of the sessions talking about how wonderful she is, how educated she is, about her family. Anything but the person in front of her. One session she spent yelling at me. I begged another therapist to take me on, to no avail. Because of Dr. Byrd Wilkins I left FHE more damaged than when I entered.
The living quarters are filthy and rundown.
The rules of group were not explained -another client there bullied me for having shared one of my vulnerabilities during group. This same client visited a friend of hers in my apartment, holding a lit cigarette. She was not held accountable by staff.
My roommates played the race card with me when I complained about their excessive noise at 11:30 pm. After that I never felt safe or comfortable at FHE again. Lousy mental health treatment.
I had to pester to get a shower curtain long enough to prevent the floor from getting soaked.
One of my roommates was Baker Acted while she was at FHE
