Unsafe car, misleading advert, and an expensive lesson, take note of the bad reviews – avoid

I purchased an Audi A3 from this dealership in October 2025 for £5,650. Within weeks it became clear the car had not been properly prepared or accurately represented. Within 2–3 months I have spent over £1,000 on inspections and repairs simply to make the vehicle safe and usable.

Just 16 days after purchase I reported an intermittent clutch pedal issue. On one occasion the gears completely failed to engage while driving in traffic, forcing me to make an emergency stop and coast to the side of the road. This was frightening and wholly unacceptable so soon after buying from a dealer.

The advert stated that the car had a “timing chain done”. This model does not have a timing chain, it uses a timing belt. The service history confirming this was only provided after I had paid, showing the belt was last replaced in 2021 and is now approaching replacement again, a major expense I would not have expected had the advert been accurate.

I also paid the dealership on the day of purchase to fit new tyres and specifically requested that no budget tyres be used. Despite this, budget tyres were fitted. Tyre pressures were dangerously incorrect, warning lights appeared almost immediately after leaving, and the coolant level was extremely low.

Although the vehicle had passed an MOT in October, an independent garage later identified serious issues including a excessively leaking rear shock absorber, incorrect tracking that was causing the car to dangerously skip about and the back end to spin out on corners, suspension faults, and a failing battery. These are major issues that should not appear weeks after an MOT or point of sale.

The dealership offered to inspect the car, but by that point I no longer had confidence in them. Communication felt dismissive and focused on their in-house warranty rather than consumer rights. Some responses appeared copied or auto-generated, one even included the phrase “insert dealership phone number here”.

The dealership is a significant distance away and I rely on the car daily for school runs. With further faults emerging and similar experiences reported by other customers, I could not risk returning the vehicle to them.

I was also undervalued on my part exchange, which in hindsight reflects the overall experience.

This platform does not allow photos, but all statements are supported by invoices, reports and records.
Edit: Response back to German engineering car sales

I retain the full email thread. This clearly shows that no inspection appointments were ever arranged or missed. The reason for this was a lack of flexibility, combined with the distance involved and my reliance on the car for daily school runs. I explained these limitations multiple times, but no workable solution was offered.

It is also incorrect to say that I was offered the option of dropping the car off over a weekend so it could be inspected first thing on Monday. That was never offered. Even if it had been, it would have left me without transport for the school run, which was a concern I had already made clear.

I was also told that I should not have continued driving the car if it was unsafe, yet no recovery option or alternative support was ever suggested. If a dealer genuinely believes a vehicle is unsafe to drive, customer safety would normally be prioritised, including help with recovery or transport. That did not happen here.

At the beginning, I put the car’s instability, including skipping and loss of traction, down to the poor-quality budget tyres that had been fitted despite my clear request that they not be used. It was only later, after independent inspections, that the full extent of the suspension, rear shock absorber and tracking issues became clear. These findings explained the behaviour I had been experiencing shortly after purchase.

By that point, my confidence in continuing discussions had reduced further. Communication felt dismissive and increasingly generic, with responses that did not address the specific concerns being raised.

I obtained independent inspections because the car did not feel safe to drive. This wasn’t about “choosing to go elsewhere”, but about getting an impartial assessment. The issues identified were not minor or cosmetic, they related to key safety components. Carrying out repairs later does not mean those faults did not exist beforehand.

I am not suggesting MOT wrongdoing. However, a valid MOT does not remove a dealer’s responsibility to supply a vehicle that is safe and of satisfactory quality, particularly so soon after sale.

We would also like to clarify that we receive consistent positive feedback from genuine customers across multiple platforms, where our ratings remain above 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, Trustpilot has repeatedly blocked genuine positive reviews from being published unless we subscribe to their paid business package, which is currently £699 + VAT per month. As we are not subscribed to their service, Trustpilot automatically flags many authentic customer reviews as “unverified”, while allowing reviews from individuals who have never purchased from us to remain visible. We do not believe it is appropriate or ethical for a review platform to operate in this way, and we will not enter into a paid subscription simply to have genuine feedback displayed. Instead, we will continue to respond with factual information to any reviews posted here so that readers can see the full context.
Thank you for your review. We are disappointed to read your comments, particularly as the vehicle was supplied in excellent condition and you were fully satisfied at the point of sale. You inspected the car thoroughly, reviewed all paperwork, and confirmed you were happy before completing the purchase.Around three weeks after collection, you reported that the clutch pedal occasionally felt unusual. As we explained at the time, the only way for us to identify or verify an intermittent issue is for the vehicle to be brought back for inspection. You agreed to attend but did not turn up for the appointment. You did not return the vehicle to us at any point, despite being invited more than once. You later attempted to book the vehicle in on a weekend, even though our technicians and parts suppliers do not operate on weekends. We offered for you to leave the vehicle with us so it could be inspected first thing on Monday, but you declined. Without the vehicle being presented to us even once, it is impossible for any dealership to diagnose or confirm a fault.
Despite stating the issue was serious, you continued to use the vehicle daily. This contradicts the suggestion that the car was unsafe or unusable. Several months later, you posted this review without ever informing us that you believed the vehicle had any of the additional issues you now list. None of these concerns were raised with us at any stage, and you did not provide us with the opportunity to inspect, verify, or address them. As a result, there is no evidence that these findings existed at the time of sale or within the warranty period. The only issue you ever mentioned to us was the intermittent clutch pedal feeling, and even for that, you did not attend the inspection we arranged. The invoices you obtained from another garage only show that you chose to carry out work elsewhere; they do not prove that any fault existed at the point of purchase. Being overcharged or misadvised by another garage does not make the vehicle faulty, nor does it transfer responsibility to us. If you believe the MOT was not conducted correctly, this should be raised with DVSA, as the MOT was carried out by an independent authorised testing station. It is not reasonable to hold a separate dealership responsible for the findings of another garage months later. We also wish to clarify that we hold full email records of all communication. These contain your personal and confidential information, and for professionalism and data‑protection reasons, we will not publish them publicly. However, they clearly show that you did not return the vehicle to us and that we repeatedly offered to inspect it. We will continue to respond to your comments on any platform with the same factual information.

We remain available to discuss this matter constructively should you wish to do so.

Staff treat customers horribly

Did not buy a car from this place. So many things went wrong with the car within weeks of owning it and when I called to speak to a staff member about what happened they were so rude. The staff are horrible and argumentative and have no respect for their customers.

Hi Lily Kelly,

We’re genuinely concerned to read your comments and want to understand what happened. Could you please clarify who you are, what car you purchased, and when this took place? Specific details will help us investigate thoroughly, as this does not reflect how we treat our customers or conduct business.

Please email all relevant information to info@germanengineeringcarsales.com so we can look into this properly. If we do not receive any response, we will treat this as a potentially false review and escalate the matter accordingly.

We take customer service seriously and are committed to resolving genuine concerns with respect and integrity.

We acknowledge your feedback and regret that you feel dissatisfied with your experience. However, we must clarify several facts:

• The vehicle in question was purchased approximately three years ago. At the time, you received a goodwill gesture of £600, despite the absence of any legal obligation on our part.
• The Financial Ombudsman’s decision was made between you and the finance company. We were not involved in the refund process and did not issue any direct compensation.
• Your initial claims were investigated and found to be inconsistent, which is why both we and the finance provider declined further action.
• We understand that vehicle issues can be frustrating, but it’s important to note that used vehicles are sold with varying levels of warranty and responsibility. Ownership does not constitute a lifetime guarantee.
• We welcome honest reviews and feedback, but we strongly discourage defamatory or misleading statements. If necessary, we reserve the right to pursue legal action to protect our reputation.

We strive to treat all customers fairly and transparently. While we regret that this situation has led to such hostility, we remain committed to resolving disputes through proper channels.

Many thanks

Bought a VW Sharan

Bought a VW Sharan. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made sure the car was tiptop before I drove it home. Before driving it home I discovered no sound was coming from the speakers. They checked it but couldn't fix it so they orederd a new multimedia system which they fitted 3 days later. I discovered an issue with the start/stop ignition button. They ran a diagnostic and determined the alternator was slightly underperforming. They ordered a new one which I am waiting to have fitted. Always theething problems with used cars but overall I am extremley pleased with my purchase, the price, the staff, and the aftersales service.

Can't be trusted

Unfortunately, can't be trusted. "Fully serviced" promised that they give is a lie - the car did not have brake fluid changed, adblue was half empty, dont even know if they bothered to change the oil, probably not. That's peanuts though, my car needed rare brake pads and rotors changed as were 90% worn, plus suspension issues - got a bill for £900 from Seat dealer to fix these. Of course they would not admit their fault or offer any compensation. Only when I realised why the car was being sold without any paperwork, just the service book. Honestly, I would avoid their service, just not worth it.

"We take pride in ensuring all vehicles are thoroughly inspected and serviced before sale. The car you purchased had 120,000 miles, was 10 years old, and came with a 1-year MOT, a fresh service, and a full PDI check. You personally inspected the service documents and test-drove the vehicle before purchasing.
At a later stage, you had the vehicle inspected at a Seat dealership, where they advised replacing the rear brake pads and a brake fluid change, quoting you £900. You did not raise any concerns with us at the time nor request any resolution before sending us the bill.
It’s important to note that brake pads are wear-and-tear items, and brake fluid is typically replaced as part of a major service or when brake components are changed. Considering the vehicle’s age and mileage, recommendations for maintenance are expected. Main dealerships often advise additional repairs, particularly for older cars.
Even though we offered you a free repair, you insisted that the work had to be carried out by the main dealer. We even advised that perhaps purchasing directly from them would have been a better fit for your expectations.
A point worth noting: purchasing a 10-year-old vehicle with 120,000 miles but expecting it to be in brand-new condition is unrealistic. We are sorry that the vehicle did not meet your personal expectations despite our transparent approach and service."

Kind regards,

Would not recommend

Super responsive on initial enquiry, good sale and immediate after care, however, new to me vehicle broke down after just 3 weeks, at which point quite difficult to get in touch with garage and only help offered was to bring the vehicle in however I live over 200 miles away from the garage and the vehicle is not drivable now.

Staff then really rude, very dismissive and quite confrontational over the phone.

Would not recommend unless you live really close by and can then visit in person if something goes wrong.

We apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. According to our records, you purchased a car from us at the beginning of March, which means it has been approximately 10 weeks (70 days). We are unaware of any issues with your vehicle. Please get in touch with us through email at info@germanengineeringcarsales.com, as stated on your sale invoice and our website.
Regarding your breakdown, we are unaware of this issue. I would like to direct you to the procedure detailed on the back of your invoice for reporting and resolving such matters. As you can imagine, our business has various departments including admin, sales, HR, technicians, and aftercare. It should not have been complicated to reach the right department, as the correct information is provided on your invoice.
In conclusion, you purchased a car from us 10 weeks ago, and at the time of sale, there were no issues with the vehicle, as reflected in your initial feedback. We are unsure what has happened since then. For peace of mind, we offer an in-house warranty and recommend every buyer to have breakdown cover or purchase an extended warranty, which comes with free breakdown cover. In any situation, the car can be recovered from any location to our garage.
We hope this provides some clarity. Many thanks.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and would like to clarify the situation.

You purchased the vehicle approximately three months ago and later reported a fault code related to one injector. We promptly invited you to bring the car in for inspection so we could assess the issue and offer support. However, instead of allowing us to investigate, you demanded payment for four new injectors and threatened legal action.

We explained that this approach does not align with our warranty procedures, which require proper diagnosis and evidence of fault. Despite this, we still offered to help find a solution. You acknowledged that only one injector might be faulty, yet insisted all four be replaced without providing any supporting documentation.

We remain committed to fair and transparent service, and we encourage all customers to follow the terms and conditions outlined in their warranty. We regret that we couldn’t reach a resolution in this case, but our offer to inspect and assist remains.

Kind regards,

They advertise for MOTs but then take them elsewhere to get them done as they have no MOT tested on site.

Friendly guys but sorry to say very bad work.

Edited view. The company where they promised to do good work, so having see the end product l have changed the comment from 5 to 2 stars due to the following. Colour was silver, it's partly green now. Body filler seen under paint and still dents in panel work, no primer I guess and over spray on black panel and wheels.car is now ruined value. Sorry guys, but your painter is terrible. If I don't have done elsewhere I may bring back for rectifying . My objection is can you do better ? And having to pay for car hire when we were not at fault .AFTER 4 MONTH DELAY in their reply? They offer help? The cost I am told was nearly 2 grand.the person that paid them is not interested at all . I have blocked your number due to being pissed off with talk of how good you are when it's a real bodge. Even the Aircon 50£ did not work yet they charged. Email me if you truly are willing to help. I suggest you do what you promise and not fluff people off. Sorry I am very unhappy. ITS TAKEN A YEAR TO REPLY: 20.01.2026 = car is terrible colour and has not faded to match as we were told it would., it looks terrible in two colours. The repair was close to £2000, which was challenged by the payee and adjusted NOT £300? even the air con at £50 never worked.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the issues you encountered with the repair work on your car. We understand your disappointment and regret that the results did not meet your expectations.

We were paid £300 to perform a smart and cheap repair by the person who caused the damage. However, we realized afterward that the job required was more extensive. Given the age of your car and the faded colour, achieving a perfect match was challenging. Despite this, we did offer you a free repair to address these concerns.

We are committed to making things right. Please contact us directly at info@germanengineeringcarsales.com to discuss how we can rectify the situation. We also understand your frustration regarding the car hire costs and would like to find a satisfactory resolution for you. Best you get in contact with the one that crashed into your car as we were not even aware of you at first.

We are truly sorry to hear about the issues you've faced with your car and the inconvenience it has caused, especially given your need to transport your disabled son. This is certainly not the experience we want for our customers.

We understand your frustration and are committed to resolving this matter. Please contact us directly at info@germanengineeringcarsales.com so we can discuss your concerns and work towards a satisfactory resolution, including addressing the ongoing issues with your car and your request for a refund.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We value your feedback and are dedicated to improving our services.

WARNING AHEAD!!!

WARNING AHEAD!!!! COMPLETE SCAMMERS. AVOID!

These scammers/fraudsters will always reply the bad reviews like they didn't even make a single mistake. They keep on deceiving others with their criminal tactics and denied to taking responsibility every time. You can see from the way they respond this review, they're always trying to explain themselves with lies and they're always being so manipulative. How they respond shows that they are terrible criminals, very skilled into committing these kinds of crimes because they have been doing it for so many years. They have backup plans to cover up themselves and know how to act innocent. Let's see if they could win once I filed a case against them. I will try to reach out more to those they had cheated with their illegal business. We should go till the very end. Please do not hesitate to contact.

WARNING

WARNING - WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! BELIEVE ALL THE BAD REVIEWS AND AVOID THIS AT ALL COST.

My story in brief:
First they TRICKED me into fixing my car within 3-5 days for £1500-£2000, then had the guts to DEMAND me more money (excessive & unproportionate) for further repairs by DECEIVING me (taking advantage of our lack of knowledge in cars) saying that they discovered more faults. And yet, feeling helpless, I reluctantly paid all the dues for my car in CASH (as they specifically ask for cash and refused to take BANK TRANSFER). Even so, my car resulted to be in a BAD/DANGEROUS CONDITION showing SIGNS OF UNSKILLED MECHANICAL WORK. They even STOLE my diesel and REPLACED/TAMPERED the good parts. They made my car in a way that will get WORSER/BREAKDOWN which is TOTALLY UNSAFE. After complaining about all these through phone calls and emails, they picked up my car, then phoned me and BLAMED me. They charged me more money again because in that way only, they will repair it. Lastly, they THREATENED me and gave me two choices – one is if I don’t pay them another £1480 without them doing any further repair, they will take and buy my car for £1200 which they were secretly aiming the most. Feeling helpless, I reluctantly let them do so as I have no other choice.

In detail
• After having a car breakdown, I put it for repairs at German Engineering Car Sales Ltd. They told me that the engine needs replacement and will cost about £1500-£2000 with 3 months warranty.
• I waited for them to contact me about the status of my car but almost after a week, they told me that they had finally found a second-hand engine and I would have to pay them a total of £3000 for this.
• They demanded me to pay more and more telling me that if I don’t let them change it, they cannot give me warranty even on the engine. So, I have no choice but to let them do so as they say because I want my car to be in good condition.
• After they have done all the work, they claimed that they found out EGR sign and they told me that they hope this will come off after 100 miles running.
• They calculated the total cost for it and I reluctantly gave them £3000 in cash as they did not want bank transfer since they want to evade from tax.
• The next day, there was a huge noise coming out from the engine. I contacted them and put it back for repair. Now they are saying that there was a block on the exhaust and smokes cannot come out as it was completely blocked. But I was very certain that the smokes do come out previously when I was recording the video before they pick up the car for repair.
• They try to charge me more and more, again and again, they don’t care even if I die, they rob me, they try to take everything away from me not just my money, even my car. They have seriously affected both my physical and mental well-being.
• They try to charge me £30 per day for storage fee as well. They gave me two choices, one is I collect the car and pay them £1480 without fixing the car, email them that it’s my own risk taking out the car if any damage is caused to the engine or any other component, it’s my responsibility. And the other one is they buy my car for £1200 which they are aiming the most. The best way to take away my car from me.
• I have all the evidences, voice record, receipt, videos, email, everything. Everyone, please stay away from them, I don’t want anybody to experience what I’ve gone through.

Most important points
1. Stay away from them, or if you happen to be their customer, don’t pay in cash, check invoice, they will write £3000+VAT, they will not tell you how much is VAT, £3000 will be the full price and on your invoice, for their security they will write £3000+VAT and under that they will write (£600 outstanding) without your consent.

2. They evade from tax

3. Not certified mechanic, your car will be getting worse than before just like mine.

4. When you buy something from the shop, they will write £300+VAT. So, it’s really confusing. Customer never pay vat for them. The vat is always on the price. Be aware everyone.

Lastly, they bought my car for £1250 because I have no other choice. If I have time, I would definitely file a case, which I might do so even in the future,

Even the website reviews have exposed that they are scammers. The good reviews seem fake too. They have unfair and illegal business practices, unqualified mechanical skills, illegal tax evasions etc.

Be aware, don’t even buy car from them, they are doggie.

My car number is
NX13 HYZ
Audi A1 Black

We are sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration. However, we would like to clarify a few points regarding your situation.

The car you brought to us had major issues, including engine, turbo, clutch and DPF, which were present when you purchased it privately. These issues were not caused by us. We initially quoted £1500-£2000 for the second hand engine replacement, but upon further inspection, additional faults were discovered, which required more extensive repairs. You authorised to do the work.
We did offer a warranty on the engine replacement, and the additional repairs were necessary to ensure the car's safety and functionality. However upon paying now was a big issue so we had to put the storage fees and the final resolution, we regret that you felt pressured. Our intention was to provide a fair solution given the extensive work required on your vehicle. We did offer to buy your car as an alternative to further repairs, which you accepted and we had no choice. We were left out of pocket because of you and no choice to keep the car and pay you additionally.

We strive to be transparent and fair in our dealings, and we regret that this situation has led to a loss of trust. We are committed to improving our services and addressing any concerns our customers may have.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
