The company seems great and I love the idea of the product but I just can't get on with it. I've used it for about 3 weeks so I have persevered. I just can't seem to get it out of my hair....once I've raised my hair for ages I can still feel it. When my hair is dry it looks ok but you can feel the reside and after 1 day it's sticky and I gross.. like I have product build up on it. It just doesn't work. I'm very sad.

For many years I have been trying to find hair care products (shampoo, conditioner) that are natural, no harsh chemicals and environmental friendly too. So no plastic. Tried lots of shampoo bars but unfortunately non of them worked well on my hair. They just left my hair greasy and tangled.
Then I came across Selkie. What an amazing idea to make powder shampoo then we can mix it at home with water. Selkie works perfectly on my hair, it leaves my hair soft, shiny and smells absolutely beautiful. Even my boyfriend complimented how soft my hair is and the lovely smell. I can only recommend Selkie to anyone. And obviously NO single use plastic.
Ps: I have long blond (coloured) hair.

You need to firstly get your head around the less foaming when washing but when you realise the foam is a cosmetic, unnecessary part of the performance of conventional shampoos and after a few washes with Selkie you’ll get it. I find my hair stays cleaner for much longer and is brighter and the colour stays for so much longer. I get less tangling and my hair is in great condition now. I’m very happy with the switch and have no plans to go back to conventional shampoo and conditioners.

These products did not work for me unfortunately.

Although the did leave my hair feeling clean, I had to use a lot of product and my hair still smelt dirty, was tangled and dried frizzy.

Selkie took 28.14 out of my bank account without permission. I do not have a subscription with Selkie and would never had taken out a subscription on a product that I wanted to trial (and do not want to re-purchase). Contacting them has proved to be incredibly difficult. I used the shampoo and condition once - it dried my hair out and so did not use it again.

Fantastic customer service & Products!

I wanted to try selkie because their refils seemed like the most sustainable option in the market. I am on my third refill with the company and it couldn't be easier to mix the powder with water in the reusable bottles.

I love the pump, it makes dispensing the product so much easier. The shampoo leaves my hair feeling incredibly clean and I enjoy that it is not strongly scented. The shampoo does not lather much on the first wash but I always double shampoo and the second wash it has much more lather.

The conditioner is great too for a light but silky feeling and my fine hair is much more manageable after using it.

I mainly chose the products at first due to the sustainability and I was pleasantly surprised at how great they make my hair feel

Once I'd got used to the product, I love it. It is fantastic for my curls. I do tend to use more conditioner as my curls are dry but again as I've got used to it, I don't use any more conditioner than shampoo. My hair is soft, clean and bouncy. I love it. It's a bonus that I'm also able to do my bit for the environment too. Also customer service has been brilliant and delivery is quick and reliable.

I’ve been using these products for a few weeks now, and honestly, they’ve been great. I wanted to try something new - mainly to cut down on single-use plastic - but shampoo bars have never worked for me. Selkie’s been such a nice surprise. Super easy to mix, and my hair’s never felt softer or been easier to manage. Highly recommended!

Following a stroke, my husband is on numerous meds which affect his skin, particularly his scalp. After years of trying other products, Selkie has been a godsend, it is the only shampoo that clears his scalp condition and with regular use keeps it away. Thank you SELKIE, amazing.

I really wanted to love this product as I love the concept but unfortunately it’s left my hair limp and lifeless and needing washing twice as much 😩 I’ve used a whole bottle of shampoo to give it time for my hair to get used to it but it’s not improved. The shampoo doesn’t foam up very much so l, even with 2 lots, it doesn’t feel like I’m getting it all through my hair. Really disappointed. I hope they work to improve it as the values of this company are amazing.

So I've been asked to leave my review/experience here after what I wrote on an Instagram comment. Honestly I'm happy to do so because as woman with weird hair (blow-dry-able, straightenable, but naturally very curly), hair care has not only become a minefield, but also an expensive journey. Let me explain...

So I'm a woman of some maturity, salt and pepper hair with defined silver/white areas, but chosen dip dyed purple, just because... I'm of mixed race, so while my hair can handle heat, although doesn't love it, it's best work is achieved with any "curly girl" method. (Arduous, laborious, and often frustrating).

On my journey I've discovered a whole host of regimes and products that tend to require a system. Namely shampoo, conditioner, creme, gel, spray, blah blah, blah...all from the same brand. Mix and match isn't really an option there. But my hair being closer to an afro (i may dream) or wiry mess (more likely), products are necessary to tame it.

However, because I'm now in my silver years, I'm longing to be kinder to my locks, and mess with them less. Which is when I discovered Selkie. Yet another sceptical purchase, but loved the re-useable packaging, and well researched, award winning product, that uses ingredients that won't strip my hair of what little natural oils remain, but also nourishes it. (I'm prone to dry ends).

So here's me trying out Selkie on blow dried hair....the result was hair that felt and behaved as it did when I was a child. Full with movement and softness.

Then on curly hair...I only used one finishing product to cast/set my curls after they seemed to just bounce in to existence when my hair was wet. Then, when it dried, said curls were soft, natural, and full of movement. Not stiff or heavy, or felt as though a bucket of creme had been applied. I've not felt that in years. And actually I only had to wash it on day 4, as opposed to the daily damp and scrunch with previous products.

Honestly I still need to practice with Selkie a bit, because I think I may be using too much of it, and tonight I realised that I ought to wash with a little first, just to get the initial dirt out and thoroughly soak it, before wash number two. But I'll also say that as much as I enjoy using the suggested brush, I feel my hair is better conditioned without it. But then it's never done well being brushed or combed in the shower.

Truly my hair washing experience is now a huge pleasure and something I really look forward to.

Plaited hair tonight, so hoping to wake up with waves tomorrow....I'll let you know.

I have been using Selkie for over a year now and I couldn't be happier. I have bleached blonde hair and I regularly get compliments on how shiny/thick it is and I have noticed a massive improvement on how it feels and looks. The colour stays in so much longer because I'm not using shampoo which strips the colour - so it stays looking blonde and I don't need to get it done anywhere near as much.

My hair feels and looks the healthiest it has ever been and I know that I'm treating it well by using good quality, natural ingredients. I honestly will never look back - I recommend this product to everybody!!

I’m not someone to normally leave reviews, but I genuinely had to because of how great Selkie has been for my hair health, particularly bringing my curls back and bringing more definition to them.

I haven’t seen definition in them for a long time and had been using random brands. But consistently using Selkie has basically transformed my hair. It feels healthier than it has for YEARS, and looks so much better too.

Also I love the packaging / aesthetic!

Really wanted to like this product, since I am very sustainability-minded and as far as I am aware this is the only shampoo and conditioner on the market which is a refillable liquid formula. I waited for my previous shampoo and conditioner to run out so I had really hyped myself up for this! Unfortunately this left a residue in my hair and my scalp was incredibly itchy after use. It simply did not feel clean after washing. Updated because I’m really annoyed: I tried it again and was really careful about washing it out. It DOES NOT wash out. My hair looks greasy! So irritating because this is not a cheap product.

I've been really pleasantly surprised with Selkie's shampoo & conditioner. I was initially quite skeptical as the shampoo definitely lacks the foaminess that bottle shampoos bring when washing but my hair has never felt so soft and healthy. I have very fine hair which usually becomes greasy within a day but I now get at least an extra day if not two before it needs washing again, very pleased! The price is a little high, but as I'm having to wash my hair less it actually works out quite well. I also really like the idea behind Selkie and it's the best alternative shampoo I've used so far.
Half a point knock down for the conditioner, which doesn't do the best job of detangling.
But overall, I'd definitely recommend!
