Horse and Groom Avis 

DISGUSTING behaviour by four members of staff during my booked visit to the Horse and Groom restaurant in Guildford. Four staff members asked me, within minutes of arriving, to leave because I had my registered assistance dog with me. This was despite making a reservation and informing them of my disability and need for my fully trained and registered assistance dog.
I have exhausted their complaints procedure and was gaslit with reassurances that their staff are trained to recognise assistance dogs. My dog was wearing her working vest, leash and even a bandana – all with the charity name and the UK Assistance Dogs yellow emblem.
I won’t visit again and I urge any fellow assistance dog owners to be cautious of this pub restaurant because their staff clearly lacked proper training.

Won’t be using again as I had a parking ticket last time and the manager said they will not be removing the ticket not bothered as the food is overpriced! Gone way down hill since the Shepard and neme takeover I won’t use any pub with automatic number plate regoniction

Excellent lunch in charming surroundings today.
Quiet and efficient service from the two young men on table duty. Excellent ambassadors for The Horse and Groom.
Would recommend without reservation.

We had an excellent lunch at this pub, which we have never been to before and visited on the off chance.

Service and food was very good, we were looked after especially well by Sam, one of the bar staff.

The pub has nice decor and atmosphere.

After being recomended to visit - went for a meal on 7th March - arrived at 6pm and was told kitchen was closed due to dishwasher not working! Fair enough- Decided to re- visit the following Saturday-my wife rang and checked that they were doing food and that the kitchen closed at 7pm- we arrived at 6pm- as we were ordering drinks - I asked for a menu and was told the kitchen was closed!!- When I queried this a very grumpy woman - who was struggling to work the till- shrugged her shoulders- and said that's the way it iis- nothing she could do!
We won't be trying again- NOT impressed!!

Firstly what a lovely pub . Very pretty clean tidy and welcoming.
The food was very good and excellent value.
We were looked after by the very attentive staff who were at the top of their game.
Will certainly be returning.

We had a lovely meal at the Horse and Groom yesterday, it was cosy and warm when we went in , we were served by a lady called Raj, so pleasant she recognised us , was very professional but friendly, we have never had a bad meal there, it is always busy.

Meeting friends for a Christmas lunch, so disappointed with how the afternoon went. Staff incredibly slow (plenty of empty tables) and when actually served, rude in how they spoke to us.

Food was mediocre, which was a surprise as eaten here many times before and even just popped in for drinks, as atmosphere usually okay. Barman, well he was just the grumpiest, rudest I've ever come across, asked if my order was diet coke, as some places serve up diet pepsi instead and was just snarled at, "of course it is". It just went down hill from there on - should of just left, that was our gut feeling to do so.
Spent over £200 + and not sure if will go again, definitely not for a sit down meal.
Plenty of other places to visit instead!

Local pub turned gastro pub. 5 years ago this was a great pub. But if you are looking for a place to meet friends and have a friendly drink, look elsewhere. They don’t want your business at all and they won't mind me saying this. Last orders is typically between 9:30 and 10pm if the restaurant is empty (which it invariably is). Twice we had to cut our evening short. Never again. Worst offense, a friend of mine is a tradesman and went in there with work cloths on and - staggeringly - was asked to leave. Nasty.

Not enough staff, food is overpriced and not great, would not go again as there are so many better pubs serving much better food in the Guildford area.

While the pub has gone an amazing makeover both inside and out, the food today was disappointing. Whilst my friends all had the roast I opted for the Seabass Risotto. When the meals arrived the roasts all looked great but they all asked if I had ordered a childs portion as it was so small. I could not call it a risotto as the rice had been cooked in a white wine sauce and then peas scattered over the top, with a very small seabass fillet and 3 prawns on the side. I feel if you are going to charge 21.00 for a meal you need to make it a meal!

Sunday lunch!! Severing time was fast: I ordered, sat down, and the food arrived.
So it was served with peas and broccoli, and most of the pan's water was on my plate also. There were also some glazed carrots, but they were hidden under the gravy.
The roast potatoes needed at least 10 minutes in the oven; they were unpalatable and swimming in grease.
The Yorkshire pudding was very strange. It was dripping with grease at the bottom and dry at the top.
For the meat, I went for the trio meal. I got a tiny piece of beef and pork, and two bits of chicken. I had to leave the food as my tummy started rumbling and I began to feel ill. I had to leave and go home without time to complain or ask for money back.
As the night went on, I became ill. Then, on Monday, sickness and diarrhoea started. I'm not saying it's their food, but it's strange. I have called them to ask if anyone else as let them know they are ill. No answer to their phone or message through Facebook.
Such a shame £20 down for a drink and Sunday lunch

We visited the Horse and Groom fir a family celebration. Firstly, the waitress said you ordered the scamp didn't you? No I ordered haddock. Then, after taking our orders she said I will go and get your salad dishes. She didn't return but when to get orders from another table. I was given my dessert with custard when I asked for ice cream. I also complained about the condition of the toilets. There was faeces on the seat of one of the toilet seats and blood on another. Also, 15 minutes after arrival at the.restaurant I received a text to say I was late and my table had been cancelled. Very poor service.

An amazing, and newly re-furbished 17th Century Inn, and just the perfect place to visit for a 'Winters' Sunday Lunch. The menu has many choices and the Manager Roberto, and his staff, are all really nice and more than helpful. I also just happen to know, as a local resident of Merrow, that the Pub has not one but two resident Ghosts - George, one of the past Landlords, and a girl named Alice. I've not had a meal there since the re-furbishment and my friends and I were not disappointed!

Great venue for 13 of us celebrating an 80 year friendship of 2 in our party, we were accommodated on 2 tables which worked really well. Food was great, staff really welcoming and helpful, and liaison beforehand was excellent - thank you. We’ll definitely be back for our April get-together. Thank you.

Came in for quick pint and got served from miserable big lady with glasses on .. said I need to change barrel after pouring me half a pint .. came back and filled the half pint up to top to make a pint .. now I don’t know about you but I certainly don’t want the bottom end of the barrel .. the pint tastes disgusting and when we went to tell the lady she said she can’t help .. I had to buy another drink as I didn’t want another dirty pint . I ended buying jd.. the woman has brain cell of a Nat and I can’t see why she is even working here if that’s how she treats people .. I won’t be back

Lovely atmosphere as always! Abigale on the bar was very friendly. Great service. Would come again

Sunday lunch vegetables were tasteless. Ready prepared, diced vegetables which all five of us in our party did not eat. Won’t be coming again until quality of vegetables improve
