Huws Gray - Great Place to Shop
Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. Easy parking and they had the product I was looking for in stock whereas many others did not. I ordered on line which was simple and the staff had the paint ready when I went to collect it.

Great communication and quality products
Just received the loam and topsoil delivery. Looks like great quality. Communication regarding delivery was excellent and prices are very competitive. The delivery person was professional, friendly and placed the pallet exactly where I wanted.

I wanted to share a really positive experience with Huws Gray at the Cambridge (Nuffield Road) branch.We recently had an issue with an EPDM rubber membrane order (Order L1E37813) where there was a discrepancy in the delivered length. When I went into the Nuffield Road store to explain the situation, the branch manager, Mark, was brilliant. He listened to the issue, checked the order details, and resolved it immediately by cutting and supplying the correct 6-metre length without any hassle. Mistakes can happen with yard cuts on large orders, but what matters most is how a company handles them when you talk to them. Mark and the team at Nuffield Road showed excellent, fair customer service and took care of everything right away.Highly recommended for their prompt help and great support!

However, we regret that the quality of the topsoil was compromised by debris like twigs, plastic, and glass. We are reviewing our screening process to prevent this issue.
Appalling customer service.
Friday morning September 25th 2026. Unable to get through to the Huwsgray Hay on Wye branch to check if Wyresdale smooth concrete paving slabs 600x600x40 were in stock I called the Llandrindod Wells branch. They were able to confirm that the Hay on Wye branch had 22 in stock. I required approximately 60 pavers and needed to see them to confirm suitability prior to purchase.
That afternoon drove from my home near Abergavenny to the Hay on Wye branch, a 48 mile round trip. On arrival the sales desk staff pointed me towards the yard to where an employee would show me the pavers. He was very helpful but despite a thorough search there were no smooth pavers in stock – riven texture only.
On returning to the sales desk I was advised that a delivery was expected soon and that I should visit again next week but to call before doing so.
On Monday 5th October 2026 called the Hay branch where the same person told me 72 pavers had been delivered but had already been sold. He added that he would get more from another branch and that they would be in stock by Wednesday 8th October and recommended I could return Wednesday afternoon or Thursday but in the very unlikely event delivery was held up I should call before travelling.
On Thursday 8th October 2026 10:50 called the Hay branch. A different sales person took the call; I asked if I could speak to the original sales person, “he is mixing paint at the moment” was the reply. I asked the latest salesperson if he could confirm the paving slabs had been delivered. “I’ll check and call you back” he replied.
I waited until 12:10 - and thinking he may have mistaken my number - called Hay branch again. The latest salesperson quickly took the call and very briefly said “I’ve been busy, will call you back”.
At 16:40, twenty minutes before closing time, I called again. Same person replied with some irritation, “I’ve been busy will check now and call you back” which on past performance seemed unlikely, and so it was, no call back.
I have since sourced paving slabs from another supplier.
Conclusions:
1) Stock control at Huwsgray at Hay–on-Wye is in question. In the case of my enquiry their inventory records did not match reality hence the need to physically check.
2) Zero customer care. The impolite, brusque manner of one staff member and his decision to not check stock and return my calls lost what could have been a sale.

Great service overall
Great service overall! Although the local branch didn't provide any updates on when my items would arrive, everything was delivered on the date originally shown on the website.
The whole ordering process was straightforward and hassle-free. I was particularly impressed with how well everything was packaged, with all items arriving in perfect condition and no damage whatsoever.
Overall, a much better experience than I've had with Wickes or Travis Perkins. Would I use them again? Absolutely, provided their prices remain competitive.

Don’t know what they’re doing
Ordered on a Thursday. Told by Hay on Wye branch delivery would be Friday or beginning of next week. I rang the branch on Monday to ask about the delivery,
Was told the guy who had the details was out in the yard and would rind back. Waited ages. Decided to ring only to be told that they didn’t know where the delivery was and that the “ticket” had been returned. STILL AWAITING UPDATE ON THE ORDER. What a shambles.
