Perfect for running a virtualized network across multiple PoPs with IX access and more.

Nach Enttäuschung mit meinem letzten Hosting-Unternehmen hatte ich mich auf den Umstieg zu iFog eigentlich gefreut. Ein europäisches Unternehmen mit breit gefächertem Angebot und guter so wie zentraler Anbindung.

Leider mangelt es hier in der tatsächlichen Ausführung an einigen entscheidenden Punkten, und ich kann eventuellen Neukunden, die nach einem europäischen Hoster suchen, nur empfehlen, sich an einer anderen Stelle umzusehen.

Innerhalb 24h war zwar VPS+BGP aktiviert, hier sind die guten Neuigkeiten allerdings auch schon aus. Der VPS war mit inkompletten Netzwerkeinstellungen eingerichtet (IPv6 ging, IPv4 war nicht konfiguriert), worauf mir im Support erklärt wurde, dass dies manchmal passieren kann (ist mir allerdings bei hunderten VPS-Deployments selbst noch nie vorgekommen), und als Antwort auf meine Nachfrage zur Situation bekam ich: "you can just assign your IP [...] in the netplan config" - sprich "du kannst es dir ja selbst einrichten".

In der leider unübersichtlichen internen Verwaltungsoberfläche wurden für den Server zwei verschiedene Zugangspasswörter angezeigt, von denen keines funktioniert hat (zum Glück gab es eine Funktion zum Zurücksetzen des Passworts, somit konnte ich mir dies ebenfalls selbst einrichten).

Als das Netzwerk am Server schlussendlich funktionierte, war die BGP-Session allerdings ohne Funktion, mit der Fehlermeldung des Servers, dass am anderen Ende (bei iFog) meine Daten nicht korrekt eingetragen wären, obwohl die Konfiguration, so wie die Korrespondenz mit dem iFog Support korrekt aussahen.
Wenige Minuten nach einer Support-Anfrage bei iFog funktionierte dann die BGP-Session plötzlich (vermutlich war auf Seite des Providers etwas nicht richtig konfiguriert, was als Reaktion auf meine Nachricht angepasst wurde), und als Antwort auf meine Support-Anfrage wurden irrelevante Details meiner BGP-Konfiguration kritisert. Auf zweite Nachfrage, ob seitens iFog tatsächlich etwas umgestellt werden musste, habe ich bis dato keine Antwort bekommen.

Weiters wurde kein einziger Buchstabe darüber verloren, wie holprig der Weg zwischen Bestellung und einem funktionstüchtigen, bezahlten Dienst war. Kein "Es tut uns leid", kein "wir verstehen die Unannehmlichkeiten", oder dergleichen.

Persönlich habe ich den VPS bereits gekündigt und gehe mit meiner Zeit und meinem Geld zu einem seriöseren Unternehmen, dem seine Kunden wichtig sind.

Ich benutze iFog für LIR und Colocation Dienste und bin äußerst zufrieden.

Die Vergabe von IPv6-Blöcken verlief reibungslos in weniger als 24 Stunden.

Ich erhielt schnell ein faires Angebot für Colocation und es dauerte nicht lange bis der Server im Rechenzentrum installiert wurde.

Bei Problemen und Wünschen war der Kundendienst immer kompetent und sehr freundlich.

Leider konnte ich nicht an LocIX angeschlossen werden aber das Problem lag nicht an iFog.

Ich kann iFog nur empfehlen!

Etwas teuer, aber das weiß man ja im vorhinein. Der Support ist im allgemeinen gut und schnell. Die Leistung der VM's ist auch gut. Ich hatte eine VM mit einer Option einen Port bei der EVIX zu bekommen - das hat leider selbst nach Jahren nicht funktioniert. Die Einrichtung des FogIXP's war allerdings super schnell.

The VPS in London has been reliable and is good value. FogIXP is handy too (for those who need BGP sessions).

iFog has been one of the most enjoyable VPS companies I've had the pleasure of interacting with. From the low, low prices to the free BGP session all the way to the friendly and understanding support they can't be matched.
I normally stick with mainstream providers for my VMs (e.g. Hetzner cloud) but I needed a BGP session to conduct some of my network experiments, and iFog has been the platform I've been able to use to grow and learn from my experimentation. Their support is open to custom arrangements (as long as you're nice) and fast to respond to enquiries.
