Almost impossible for me

Almost impossible for me, an Irish citizen to get a passport, they've returned my application now three times looking for further documents. Unfortunately the "O" in my name was never entered on my birth cert but I have been using it since I was a child (47 years old now). All my interactions with the state i.e revenue, welfare, HSE all have my name on file containing the "O". I bet if my name was Michael the third junior McGinley/Stokes/Connors or MccArthy with no birth cert and I couldn't read or write I would have my passport within weeks. Same goes if I was from the bowels of Afghanistan and I had a name they couldn't even pronounce. They hand these passports out like smarties to the British, but if you're Irish you haven't a hope of getting one.

Irish born new application.

Irish born new application.
Photobooth photo code upload (2 attempts but had refund on set that didn't meet criteria).
Witness:Lecturer LANDLINE (she put call divert to mobile phone whilst on holiday) missed call but voice mail message to call back was answered immediately ... 3 questions from a lovely efficient lady, that was it.
The passport tracking was spot on !! Great to watch progress and witness contacted 4 days before expected completion date.
Passport arrived to Midlands 3 days after it was marked as posted.
Birth cert and old passport to follow in 15 days. 🤞
Time scale : 6 weeks 4 days
Brilliant service

Exceptionally good service

I applied to renew my passport. Simple process, done in minutes. Applied late evening Wednesday 16th April. Tracking indicated the passport would be ready on 2 May. That’s good I thought. When it arrived this morning 22 April I was delighted. Less than a week and with the Easter Bank holiday. Cannot recommend highly enough.

If I could give these people minus 5…

If I could give these people minus 5 stars I would!! So horrible to deal with. They don't give you back all documents you send. They cost me so much money and the woman's attitude on the phone was you just have to get all the stuff again! The Irish passport office should be ashamed of themselves and if people give you documents you should return everything!!!

Ignorant

Absolutely useless, said on website, I could do an online renewal nearly 2 weeks ago, told me all I would need was a picture, because I have a biometric passport already, they do not require anything else, 4 days ago sent me email requesting full birth certificate. I'm no longer at home and this is a major problem now. Sent 2 email asking why they require it, both have been ignored over the last 4 days. They seem to be a law and upon themselves. They don't follow their rules, and if you ask why, you're told we don't need to answer your questions. It's little ridiculous seeing as they give out 1 million last year in a population of 5 million. I've had 3 Irish passports and can't get a renew.

I applied for a passport to this office…

I applied for a passport to this office in 2024. They lied about the forms they received in the post, together with fact that they don't accept certified copies of marriages and deaths even though these forms come from the authorities. My dentist did not answer the witness call and so they refused application. I tried engaging rationally about the forms and fact that most people in big cities don't use landlines. The complaint was not upheld and so I have gone to the ombudsman. Don't expect sanity to prevail when dealing with this office and people.

3 months and my passport application refused

I applied for my Irish Passport on the 22nd August 2024 (20063790074). The first email I received was requesting a Landline for my witness. Very few people have a landline these days but I was able to comply and posted the relevant number (cost £8.15 for a registered letter) Another email to say my witness was uncontactable which was nonsense as he had no missed calls on his phones. I supplied a new witness and posted the 2 relevant forms signed by my witness a local chemist (£8.15). Another month goes by and now they claim I didn't post the witness form and my witness is uncontactable. I checked with the chemist and once again nobody rang her. I contacted their chat hub a further 4 times to see if they had found the missing witness form and eventually they inform me I need to re-submit my application including new photos and extra documents. National I.D card or Driving Licence with a photo. The UK don't have either !. As far as witnesses go. The PSNI can only be contacted via a hub and the same with Banks. My witnesses were an accountant and a chemist. They obviously never tried ringing either witness otherwise they would have had missed calls on their phones. I was offered a cancellation which I accepted but they are now taking a further 30 days to refund me the 75 Euro application fees and no refund for the £24.45 it has cost me in postage. I offered to go to Dublin for a face to face meeting to resolve any problems but they don't do that either. I asked to speak to a manager but was refused that as well.Just a complete bunch of lies that took 3 months

Citizenship and Passport Office should SHARE information!

I have naturalized through my Irish husband who I have been married to for over 20 years! Why is there NO central data base for naturalization and passport office? Surely you must know that one cannot apply for a passport unless you are an Irish Citizen and in order to be an Irish citizen you would have needed to submit ALL the documents for this. I am fuming at the fact that my passport was due on 12 Nov now moved to 29th due to my PPS card and marriage cert not being included. For goodness sakes!! How do you think I was naturalized? So much unnecessary stress, my anxiety is through the roof as I had a trip planned and now I cannot book anything!!

Blatantly lying to me and my wife about the documents we sent into the passport office

My wife sent in her passport renewal over two weeks ago and since we are now married she had to send in our wedding certificate as evidence so that she could change her surname for the new passport. Initially online it said that all documents had been received and accepted but now (two weeks) she has still not received her passport and she got an email from the passport office saying that they will not accept a black & white photo copy of our wedding certificate and we will need to send in the original document. This is a complete and blatant lie by the passport office! We have never photocopied our certificate we sent them in the only document we ever received which was absolutely in colour (not black & white as they claimed) we tried explaining this on the phone to them but they were completely uninterested in listening to what we had to say and simply advised that we apply and pay for a new certificate and post it into them again. Bunch of incompetent fools working here in my opinion

Absolutely terrible service

Absolutely terrible service. I applied for first time Irish passport months ago. Travelled to Guarda station and had my documents validated, including copy of my UK passport. Had a target date for the end of September and when the date was approaching they informed me that I needed to send a marriage certificate. (I should have included it in hindsight but had to send for a new one). Posted it via Royal Mail where it sat in Belfast for a full week before they delivered it. Then to be told that the
resubmitted application basically goes back to the start of the queue. Ridiculous it just needs to be verified as my other original documents have been returned. I've actually been and returned from the holiday I wanted the Irish passport for. UK passport must more efficient service. As for the Royal Mail they need to take a leaf out of An Posts book they have a far better more efficient service. As of today apparently I still have another week to wait.

Brillian Process

Honestly, how easy is this process!! Made the application online and posted my documents. Very easy to track and see where the application is up to. My passport was issued 2 days before the targeted date. The longest delay was Royal Mail getting my documents to Ireland, didn't leave England for just over a week from the post office. Hadn't received my marriage certificate back, so used the online chat and was acknowledged straight away, no waiting, and and was given a tracking number. So easy!

Absolutely abysmal service

Absolutely abysmal service. If I could give zero stars I would. Been waiting months on my son’s first passport. Family holiday ruined. Nightmare. The staff are highly skilled at giving you zero information. It’s actually impressive how little they can help. May as well be ringing my local Tesco for an update.

Ps if applying for your babies first passport I suggest starting the application preconception. Hopefully then it’ll be there in time for the child’s first holiday.

If I could give them a negative 0 I…

If I could give them a negative 0 I would. Absolutely useless. Documents were lost, I called several times, and each time was given a different response. They information of the post office paper document needs to be updated. I was trying to be proactive to see if addition documentation was needed but they wait until the 8-10 weeks are up and then will send you the bad news.

The customer service team are some of the most unprofessional useless individuals I have dealt with. |All they will tell you is the estimated date you may receive your passport which I can see myself on the website. They cannot answer any other questions. They will not connect you with a supervisor. It makes me wonder what kind of training is provided to this civil department. Utterly frustrating!!

Applied for passport early April'24…

Applied for passport early April'24 through Passport express. Send in all required documentation as mine was a complex application. Target date for completion was end of June, status bar reached its target but went back down. Rang Passport office to see what the problem was & said they needed more documents. Received letter outlining what they needed. They needed the same documents I had already sent only this time they had to stamped & signed, I wish they could've said this sooner or had this on their website as it would've caused less stress & anxiety. However, I got the documents signed & stamped & sent everything back by registered post. Rang daily for updates & found staff lovely & pleasant but were reading from different hymn sheets all the time as most answers to my questions were conflicting & the estimated target date had now went to 7th August 😩. I was due to travel on 3rd August. I emailed in a complaint about & they acknowledged my complaint. I was never rude nor nasty & understood it was a busy time for them however they
had my application since early April
Continued to ring daily still got the same response. Then 29th July I got a call from Passport Office to let me know my Passport application was complete & would be sent to me the same day or I could collect it I received it the following morning.
My experience with the Passport office was no doubt stressful but I can honestly say I did not think I was going to have my passport on time to go on holidays with my family & I am so greatful for making it possible. They do work with you & work towards completing all applications if you provide all relevant documentation at the time of application, however I do recommend that the Passport Services updates their website & is specific as to their requirments in relation to what documents should be signed & stamped apart from the Garda's section.
All in all...Thank you to all in Passport Offices who participated in processing & completing my application.

Customer Service Agent Awful

Called Customer Service today to try and establish the status of an application. I was told it could take up to 16 months to process. I asked if they had received my information in the post and if my grandfathers birth certificate was with them. I was told they couldn't check that. I went on to ask further questions regarding the application and the girl hung up on me. Awful customer service. Awful attitude of young girl on phone. Disgusting that anyone gets paid to treat people like this
