JD Gyms - Newcastle Shiremoor Avis 

I only started working out here recently after seeing a YouTube review of JD Gyms, and I’m really impressed so far. The range and quality of equipment is excellent, and there’s plenty of variety for different types of training.

My only real concern is the changing room, which is quite small. It can be difficult to get changed comfortably, and with limited space to hang clothes they often end up stuffed into lockers. Because of this, I usually arrive already dressed for the gym, which isn’t ideal in colder weather.

That said, at £30 per month this is something I’m willing to overlook. Especially when compared to my previous gym, which cost £72 per month, the value for money here is hard to beat.

I’ve been a member of JD, Shiremoor gym since it opened in January 2019, and it has consistently exceeded every expectation.

It’s the largest club I have trained in over 20 plus years and offers an unmatched variety of equipment — from extensive strength and functional training areas to lifting platforms, a CrossFit rig, a dedicated spin studio, a class studio, and outstanding cardio equipment. A refurb recently took place too with various new pieces of kit adding to what was already a fabulous place.

What truly sets this gym apart, however, goes far beyond the facilities. The lighting, the atmosphere, and the overall energy create a space that is both motivating and welcoming. The staff are exceptional, and the personal trainers — many to name individually — are incredibly knowledgeable across all areas of health, fitness, and mindfulness.

One PT in particular stands out as truly exceptional. His commitment to continuous self-learning and his deep understanding of how to train clients through all stages of life, especially women, is genuinely inspiring. I cannot thank him enough for the support, guidance, and care he has shown me over the years.

Every time I walk through the doors, I feel like I am entering my happy place — a space where I can focus on myself, grow, learn, and genuinely enjoy the process. This gym is more than a place to work out; it is a community and a constant source of motivation.

If I could rate it higher than five stars, I absolutely would.

Great gym with lots of equipment. It does get busy from time to time but the atmosphere is great.
Staff are always on hand to help or just have a nice chat.

The gym itself is decent to a point with new machines and equipment toilets are still disgusting and seem to cleaned sort of staff still haven't got any better although there seems to be some new additions if you want a personal trainer however at all costs avoid AA or SH both as bad as each other when it comes to being a womanizer the use of drugs in work and outside but one likes to smack a woman around when they have anger issues

Good gym price is cheaper than most

The facilities are great, they even have a sauna and cold shower in both the mens and ladies changing rooms.

Constantly dirty, takes ages to get machines fixed, some staff take steroids and abuse visitors verbally and management do nothing about it, backstabbing by the staff is horrendous, staff sleeping with clients and married women also if you put a harassment report in they will suspend your membership as well. Not veteran friendly and don't support people with related mental health issues. If i could do negative stars, then inwould give 5+
Far better gyms available with better services and help.

Awful predatory business tactics- They lull you in to a sense of security with deals such as £10 for the first month. This, however, comes with an unforeseen clause which basically necessitates full payment for the next month. "Support" denied my request for a refund for not having given 30 days notice to cancel my membership. However, this would've been impossible as memberships are outright terminated if a cancellation is requested within the first 14 days. I could not have possibly cancelled within thirty days as my entire membership would've been cancelled. I'm now a month's payment out of pocket and see no possibility of a solution or even any logic from the support team.

EDIT - thanks to the reply for completely misrepresenting my argument and seemingly purposely missing the essence of what I had to say. My point is that logically, during the first month, it is impossible to cancel a membership, necessitating payment for the second month. I did not want a second month, I could not attend the gym in this second month, I should not have had to pay for this second month. I cancelled my membership and that request was albeit accepted, but ridiculously late and unfairly.

Just joined back after 3 years out was very busy but enjoyed being back

New contract taken out. On arrival all the mats are out of if use for over 3 weeks something I use most when at gym. 2 of the treadmills I have used so far the button function for speed ext are broken Complaint sent as unhappy and as yet still not response. I feel this gym needs a big equipment update

Fix the air con

Allows me to follow my workout plans to the letter. And it's close to home.

Fantastic gym at Northumberland park staff very friendly and helpful would highly recommend them

You let too many lads in wearing sliders and crocs and not proper gym gear and even seen 2 woman bare foot walking around
Also loads lads in sauna wearing their boxer shorts

I like the lighting in the gym, great layout and the changing rooms are lovely

Leaks oppositet the wights benchs near the dum bell racks otherwise very happy with the epiument overalls okays for the money
