My experience with the John Locke Institute has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. As a student from Kashmir, attending the PPE Summer School in Singapore completely changed how I think and learn. The lectures were engaging, the tutors were exceptional, and the discussions constantly challenged me to look at ideas from new perspectives.

What I loved most was the atmosphere of curiosity and open dialogue. Everyone - from the team to the students - was passionate, thoughtful, and eager to learn. It was an environment that truly encouraged independent thinking and meaningful debate.

The John Locke Institute has had a lasting impact on how I approach ideas and conversations, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to any student who loves to learn and explore.

The John Locke Institute demonstrated what education should be like - it was an engaging educational experience centred around debate and discussion rather than tedious note-taking. Additionally, there were many enjoyable and social aspects as well. Overall, a great experience, I would definitely do it again!

The John Locke Institute became quite literally the highlight of my year, I made many international friends, understanding my peers insight and how they view a certain situation was very interesting. The precepts were the best discussion sessions ever as we would have a different debate every single session. When I had to bid farewell to my international friends and the John Locke Institute, it was a shock to me that it was even the end. Time passes by so fast, but for my first visit to the UK, it was definitely a memory I would cherish and keep forever.

Apart from its reputation as a prestigious academic haven, the John Locke Institute exceeded my expectations in MANY aspects. The quality of the facilities and campus was excellent, with sources of entertainment and quietude. I was able to continue several of my hobbies, most surprisingly piano! The peers I encountered from as early as arrival were amicable, competent, and most importantly, ambitious. My views and arguments were not taken trivially, but met with passionate (though not malicious) dissenting opinions; I hungrily absorbed them, unused to such an engagement level. The lecturers taught expansive notions that beckoned me to escape the comfort zone of conventional ideas and step into new ways of thinking. There was no lack of activities and opportunities for intellectual or artistic showcasing, with talent shows, karaoke nights, and shopping sprees scheduled meticulously. I left the summer school with a heart not heavy, but full of meaningful friendships I still maintain, knowledge of the highest calibre I gladly share, and a newfound desire to preserve the authenticity I unexpectedly found in myself! :)

I attended the Public Policy Symposium at Princeton in July 2025 and had a great experience! I learned a lot about the topic, criminal justice, through the various speakers, in-depth small group discussions, and conversations outside of the classroom. Additionally, I made a lot of friends from around the world and had a truly great time. I would definitely recommend this program!

I attended the Oxford summer school 2025 and had probably the best 2 weeks of my life. The other students were amazing, they were all insanely nice and fun to talk to about intellectual topics. The preceptors (mostly college students) also did not disappoint. They were super qualified, nice but also funny. Furthermore, the professors were great. They all had very impressive backgrounds and exposed me to new but plausible ideas. When we didn't have classes, our free time program provided many fun activities. Going punting in Oxford, visiting the city, having a dinner party at the Examination Schools, doing karaoke or a talent show were just few of the things we got to experience during our time there. I personally especially enjoyed the ITT test, which challenges your ability to question your own opinions, and our visit at the Oxford Union where we got the chance to debate but also watch a Lord from the House of Lords and a professor debate. All in all, I can only recommend participating!

I attended my first John Locke summer program this year at Georgetown, and I had a blast. I learned from experts in their fields, made new friends, and made memories that will last a lifetime. I would highly recommend these programs to anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and make new connections. I will definitely do more through the John Locke Institute in the future.

Attending the John Locke Institute was genuinely one of the most inspiring and intellectually enriching opportunities I’ve ever had.

Studying in such a beautiful environment, surrounded by people who were just as eager as I am to openly debate philosophy, politics, economics, and history, it felt like something out of a dream.

The experience pushed me to think critically and enabled me to defend my ideas more confidently while also challenging me to listen more generously to others.

In addition, this experience has given me not only a stronger academic foundation, but also greater confidence in how I think, speak, and engage with the world around me.

I have attended two John Locke summer schools and two essay competitions, but I would definitely say my Singapore summer camp in 2024 is purely mesmerizing. It was an absolute privilege and I felt nourished surrounded by people who are smarted than me, I have learnt to appreciate many of them even up to now.

I attended the 2025 Oxford 2 week summer program, and absolutely loved it! They brought in high level lecturers which usually would be controversial but were eye opening and explained ideas incredibly well. Being able to speak with higher ups such as martin increased the amount of learning and higher level ideas given to us participants. I also loved that the pupils were of different cultures but we all bonded really well in such a great environment.
Highly recommend, I think the best experience I've ever had!!!

This summer camp was amazing. The lectures in the morning were genuinely interesting and I really enjoyed the precepts (small discussions) in the afternoon. The institute brought in so many lecturers that changed my perspective on things and it's definitely something I want to do again.

The John Locke Institute offered an immensely rewarding experience. I participated in the Global Politics Junior Program, where we explored a wide range of topics, from global politics to the economics of governance. The lectures were of exceptional quality, delivered by highly qualified instructors, complemented by engaging seminars and enriching extracurricular activities like mock trials and debates. The selection process ensured that participants were not only friendly and sociable but also brought unique stories and perspectives—I’ve never been in a room with such a remarkable diversity of experiences. It was undoubtedly worth every penny, and I would jump at the chance to return to the program.

Great lectures, speakers, and lessons.

John Locke Institute Summer School has always been something I wanted to attend. The most crucial part of its summer school is that they bring in two side of the perspective on all issues, giving students a chance to think in someone else's "shoes". Additionally, the quality of lectures, dynamic intellectuals, and hardworking interns there just further enhanced my experience. Definitely would come back next summer to experience another program.

The John Locke Institute was a wonderful experience. I have attended the program 2 times now, and it has been the best intellectual environment I've ever been part of. Both the professors and students are excellent.

The Junior Politics Summer School in Washington D.C. with the John Locke Institute was an unforgettable experience. We were made to feel at home in an intellectually rich environment full of people from across the world representing a great variety of cultural backgrounds and opinions. Steve Davies's knowledge was astonishing, Martin's guidance kept each day interesting, and the guest lectures offered a different way of thinking. My fellow students were not just fun and friendly, they each had a great variety of different views of the world and every discussion was like unearthing something new. I left the program feeling like a different person, more open-minded, thoughtful, and more comfortable engaging with different types of ideas. I just wish it had been longer, and I know I will remember this amazing week for the rest of my life.

Words cannot express how much I enjoyed and love the John Locke Institute and its programs. My time at the 2025 Global Affairs Forum at Georgetown have been the most memorable and mind-opening two weeks. I have received more than just intellectual lectures, but personal connections with the JLI team, professors, and lifelong friendships.

I'm not sure if I could recommend the John Locke Institute enough; I spent two weeks at Georgetown and it was one of the most unique experiences of my life. The speakers were credible and interesting, we had access to amazing facilities, and the staff were incredible. If you're nervous about making friends, don't be; I met some of the kindest people at the JLI, and you're probably going to make some life long friends if you have the opportunity to go to a John Locke Institute program!

The Oxford summer course costed £5,500 for two weeks. While the summer school did have some quality tutors, there was a huge issue with safeguarding and management at the course. There was no safeguarding lead which caused huge problems with various safeguarding issues. There was also a teacher who made sexist comments and was forced to resign during the course. I felt sorry for the interns who worked at the camp as they were hardworking and were treated unfairly; they were also remunerated below minimum wage. The whole experience was extremely underwhelming did not worth the £5,500 paid to the camp. I would strongly advise against participating and especially working at this course.
