United Health Care upset they had to pay, brought in Katch

I went to a local Orthopedic because my shoulder was KILLING me, I was afraid I had damaged my rotator cuff. Took xrays, treated for tendinitis and bursitis. After 1 week meds caused G.I bleeding that landed me in the hospital for 2 DAYS! and they did nothing. I did PT FOR 6 WEEKS then needed MRI of my neck. It wasn't just my shoulders it was Degenerative disc disease and I needed C3-C7 ACDF surgery. United Healthcare denied 1 hr before surgery, told me I had to use another insurance though work. I did...that ortho surgeon said this requires hospitalization, not a clinic surgery, United has to cover it. United denied my surgery over 8 times. Now a month and half later I got 3 of these letters!!! Im disgusted! No My D.D.D. was not caused by someone else they can reclaim money from. "They want to review to make sure my benefits are used the right way" No!, United Health care only wants to TAKE IN money, not pay out when clients need them.

Too late to be asking questions

They are asking about a claim that happened over 1.5 years ago. My insurance company does not allow me to review claims that far back. I cannot remember what I did last month let alone 1.5 years ago.

KATCH possibly the worst title for this company that they could have picked

A parent passed away two weeks after a hospitalization. This parent, over the course of their entire life, only utilized the hospital three times in the last 40 years. Humana, hires this company to claw back any money they think might be entitled to them. This company Katch, just sent a letter to my deceased parent asking them to call them. It's disgusting. First of all that they have access to a deceased person's records, and second of all that they're trying to claw back money from someone who has recently died. If they thought that there was an accident or some other issue that allowed them to claw back some money, that's something they should take up with the hospital. For the insurance company itself to hire this company to disturb grieving people and upset people by sending correspondence to someone who is actually deceased. I'm just infuriated. And their crappy name KATCH instantly implies that somehow someone's done something wrong.

"Katch" and Insurance Companies are violating HIPAA Laws!

This is a "scam" alright, but not the type most people are describing. I received "the letter" other reviews mention and alarms went off in my head. They were following up on a tiny notation made in a visit summary by my primary care doctor a year ago. I'd mentioned I had pain in my thigh after using a chair (instead of a ladder) while cleaning out kitchen cabinets. That was it. Many months later, I was in touch with United Healthcare about claims related to a fall which was completely unrelated. The rep asked about that little notation -- "I see you had some trouble walking. Was that work-related in any way?" I was shocked and disturbed, asked how or where she was getting that information from. She quickly dropped it after I said I was retired. But it was obvious that a low-level customer service rep at United Healthcare had access to my private healthcare records. VERY UPSETTING. And now, this letter from a subrogation company called "Katch" makes me even more concerned!! WHY IS UNITED HEALTHCARE SHARING MY MEDICAL RECORDS WITH A THIRD-PARTY?!? I consider this a very serious privacy violation. I filed a complain with my state's insurance division and encourage anyone who receives a similar letter to do the same. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING.

This is an attempt at fraud

This is an attempt at fraud.

I received a letter in the mail today, with my name, my daughter, the hospital we went to, and my health insurance company. They wrote:

"Katch, in collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, reviews services provided and/or paid claims that may have been the result of an accident or injury. Katch, working on behalf of BCBSIL, needs to obtain detailed information to determine whether another party is responsible for the treatment provided.

Please call Katch today and have your event number, listed above, along with your identification card from BCBSIL ready for reference. Please call regardless if how it where this injury occurred.

Please call customer service toll-free at 1-800-696-4573"

I checked online. It has a website, that says a lot of vague things about partnering with 'you' for improved claim fulfillment and value savings. It is likely an AI-generated website.

I called BCBSIL customer service, asking for the fraud department. They confirmed that they do not to l use a company called Katch or KatchIQ. They do use Equian for information gathering like this.

Do not call, and do not give them any information, as it is likely to be used to commit fraud at your expense.

Be careful with this company…

We received a "second attempt" from Katch. We never received an initial attempt. Dated 4/28/26, the notice was in reference to a "medical incident" that supposedly occurred 11/03/25 with my 88 y.o. cousin, for whom I am the Care-giver.
This whole claim is not recognizable by me, the patient, nor his primary care doctor. There was no accident or injury in Nov. of 2025. Be careful with this site. It screams "I am a scam."

Katch Subrogation for BCBS of Texas

I was referred to a hand surgeon by my Dermatologist toward the end of 2025 when I brought up the large nodule in my hand, how my finger was bending toward my palm, and how I was getting pain, tingling, and numbness in my ring finger and part of my hand that seemed to surround the nodule. The hand surgeon informed me that this was Dupuytren's Disease causing a contracture, that this disease was common in people with Scandinavian ancestry such as myself, and that surgery would be able to correct it and leave minimal scarring. I had this surgery, called a fasciectomy, on December 26, 2025 after having everything pre-approved by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

Now, three months later, I get a letter from Katch, contracted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, demanding that I spend my free time giving them my private medical information to prove to them that this wasn't the result of a workplace accident or injury, or an accident or injury outside of the workplace. As stated on the letter I received today, March 7 2026, "Katch, in collaboration with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, reviews medical services provided and/or paid claims that may have been the result of an accident or injury." If I had put in this claim as one not resulting from accident or injury, and it was the result of accident or injury, that would be defined as insurance fraud. Considering how easily both companies could do a simple Google search and find the research that refutes this claim, and that they proceeded in harassing me anyway, I believe that Katch is involved in insurance fraud that preys on healthcare patients who don't know their rights and/or are unable to fight against multi-billion-dollar corporate mobsters.

Katch is a subrogation company that used to be run under the names Equian and Optum, but that changed in 2024. Their physical business address doesn't even show them existing on Google Maps. This company is extremely suspicious.
