Avoid Key Car Rental at all costs! Our Dacia Duster suffered a cooling system breakdown on a Sunday while driving normally on paved roads. Breakdown assistance didn't bring a replacement until 10:00 PM, ruining our night and forcing us to miss our hotel booking. To make matters worse, the replacement was an old beat-up car with loud whistling noises and active warning lights.

They deliberately delayed updates on the vehicle until our final rental day so we couldn't address the issue in person at the office, then falsely blamed us for "driver-related damage" without supplying a shred of evidence. They took undisclosed charges from us and are now completely ignoring our emails. Absolutely unacceptable business practices!

I booked the Suzuki Jimny Arctic Duo around seven months in advance specifically for its off-road capabilities, manual transmission and suitability for Icelandic F-roads.

Key Car Rental changed my vehicle without informing me. I discovered the substitution purely by chance during the online check-in process. Had I not checked carefully, I would have arrived in Iceland without knowing that my booking had been changed.

The replacement vehicle (Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross) was presented as an "upgrade", despite being cheaper in their own fleet and fundamentally different in terms of capabilities and vehicle concept. It was not an equivalent replacement for my travel plans.

Customer support stopped responding after I explained my concerns. No compensation was proactively offered. I had to point out the price difference myself before receiving a partial refund.

The replacement vehicle itself was disappointing:

- ~190,000 km mileage
- Tire pressure warning light permanently illuminated
- Defective fuel filler mechanism
- Vehicle not provided with a full tank
- Defective front and rear windshield wipers
- Significant signs of wear inside and outside

What disappointed me most was the complete lack of communication and customer service. Vehicle substitutions can happen, but changing a customer's booking without any notification—especially after a seven-month advance reservation—is simply unacceptable.

Iceland was amazing. Unfortunately, Key Car Rental was the worst part of our trip.

I cannot recommend this company.

Been a customer for three years, never again. Booked and paid for a hatchback online. On pick up, model booked was unavailable, they offered only saloons as replacements. Would not acknowledge that a hatchback is not similar to a saloon. I had to pay extra.

After we delivered the car and got back home, we received an email claiming that the ladder of the rooftop tent is missing and charging us.(the ladder is mounted on to the buttom of the tent, why should we demount it). They just transferred the money from our bank account without our accept. So be aware! You sign in the contract when you pick up the car, that they up to 6 month after use of the car, can take money from you 🙈😳🤯. I was sadly and stupidly not aware.

Vi havde booket bil med overlevering fra agent i ankomstterminalen. Han var ikke midt op. Vi brugte tid på at finde kontoret/afhentningssted. Da vi endelig fandt det ventede vi i en time på at få bilen udleveret.
