Very disappointing experience with this company

Very disappointing experience with Lawson Motor Company. We purchased a Range Rover Evoque in October 2025 under the assurance it had a full service history, a full service completed before collection, and no issues. Unfortunately, this was far from the case.

The car was in poor condition on collection, with cosmetic damage and a faulty key. Although these were eventually addressed, further problems quickly followed, including battery failure and non-working front and rear cameras—issues that existed from the start. Communication was poor, with delays, unreturned calls, and excuses about being too busy to resolve faults.

An independent inspection later revealed additional problems, and we also discovered the car had only received an interim service, not the full service promised. To make matters worse, the V5C registration was not correctly transferred.

After multiple returns and ongoing issues, we have lost all confidence in this company. Based on our experience, we would strongly advise others to proceed with caution.

Very disappointed after waiting for…

Very disappointed after waiting for over 3 days for a valuation for my car sending all required information to the dealership I would have expected some sort of reply. I can’t understand when you show an interest in buying a car that they don’t respond to the purchaser. Not a good way to do business…

Strange experience with a car here

Strange experience with a car here. The guy in here said the car was within a Kia 7 year warranty and he had a full service history. I asked to see the service papers and suddenly the papers were missing. He said he spoke to Kia and they stated the car was in warranty anyway and there was nothing to worry about. I called Kia myself to verify this about this specific car and they said it was not protected and this was not true. Then stated "I'm not forcing you to buy the car". Just felt really dishonest and I wouldn't buy a car from someone like that. Strange strange guy.

Couldn’t have been more helpful when…

Couldn’t have been more helpful when looking for a vehicle. Discussed what I wanted and was offered a couple of options. Decided on one and couldn’t be more happy with my choice. Excellent service and staff were pleasant and extremely helpful.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GARAGE

Saw 2 Range Rovers on Autotrader, travelled over an hour to view with intent to buy. First car viewed had an ENGINE MANAGEMENT light on, NO FUEL in car. Second car on test drive was given the keys with no instructions not shown how to release handbrake on this model. Instantly the BRAKES were so loud. NO FUEL IN CAR for test drive, BATTERY LOW. NO APOLLOGY given. Staff moving cars on reversed into another of their cars and group of employees taking photos and laughing. Me and my husband turned to each other continuously saying 'Where the hell are we?!!!'

Grateful they were so visible with their lack of professionalism and that we didn't drive away with one of their faulty cars.

Today have rang to report to the manager who also was not forth coming with apologising. After saying a load of excuses, I had to say 'what I am hearing from you is no apology'

REVISED-Wish I could give a zero star.First off…

EDIT- so to be fair to Lawson motors ,David and Mal have restored my confidence - since the first review the above gentlemen have been extremely helpful in resolving a few issues which I have had.
They have covered the cost of local repairs rather than me doing a near 100 mile round trip saving time and money.
I will admit if you want to get something done … speak to them they are fantastic so I have revised my overall score.

Wish I could give a zero star.First off looked to arrange a viewing didn’t even bother to move it or defrost it to view it properly.
Had a known fault which they said would be sorted aswell as a FULL service .
After 2 weeks of waiting , picked up the vehicle to find the cabin filter full of leaves , within 120 miles the fault returned . Upon inspection the front had been glued back together and the radar system hanging loose.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a reply via email for a paper trail as clearly they don’t want it .
I have started a formal case with the motor ombudsmen as the lack of professionalism and poor business practice after spending near 20 thousand pounds on a vehicle is shocking.
I no longer trust them or their workman ship so have no gone else where for the repairs .
If they decide to get it sorted I will look to change this !

Worst experience ever !
Jack the highly rude salesman should never be selling cars the way he speaks to customers !

Over 6 month we have been waiting for a private reg that was taken off out car that we part exchanged which still hasn’t been sent back over to us , last time I spoke to jack he stated was “what do you want me to do about it , it’s the customer that bought your car that needs to send it back”

Communication has been terrible from day one all he cares about is getting a sale and the after sales care has been shocking from him !
The way he speaks to customers is disgusting !!!

Avoid this dealer

Buyers should be aware that HPI checks only cover finance, theft and insurance write-offs and do not include damage history or mileage discrepancies.

I was in the process of purchasing two vehicles from this dealership and withdrew from both purchases after payment had been made just prior to vehicle collection, following independent checks.

One vehicle was marketed as HPI clear, however an independent CarVertical report identified a recorded front-end damage incident dated March 2025. Visible condition issues were consistent with this history, suggesting the damage may not have been fully rectified. This information was not disclosed during the sales process and only came to light after payment had been made.

Due to the resulting loss of trust and transparency, I also withdrew from the second vehicle, which independently showed a mileage discrepancy on history checks.

The refund process was poorly handled, with delays, repeated requests for information already supplied, and a lack of timely written confirmation. Refunds were only completed after persistent follow-up, adding unnecessary stress to what should have been a straightforward process.

Based on my experience, I would advise buyers to exercise caution, carry out independent history checks, and ensure all terms and refund arrangements are confirmed in writing.

Read the contract, or just avoid.

As i come to the end of my lease I find out yet again how important it is to read contracts carefully. Tilsun will say one thing via email but the contract will specify something less. Maintenance doesn't mean maintained, it does give a basic dealership service package. Again double speak. The finance package may be presented as a lease but so many caveats exist it becomes a glorified rental, most of which you will only find out when you come across an issue. I was also shocked to find out that despite the car not being due an MOT you are expected to return it with 3 months . Never in 11 from new lease vehicles have I seen this.
Read the contract, double check against what they agreed and ensure its present, but its easier to just deal with a company that doesn't operate sharp practices.

Approach with Caution

Jubilee branch: terrible communication and after service. No response to emails or messages. The car I purchased has started with some very expensive failures in the last 6 months which I'm told aren't included in warranty. I recommend anyone buying has an independent mechanic inspect before handing over any money.

Serious Issues Discovered Long After Purchase – Buyers Beware

I purchased a Land Rover Discovery 4 from Lawsons, trusting their reputation and the courtesy shown during the sale. Unfortunately, two years later, the car suffered a catastrophic engine failure while I was abroad, requiring repatriation by the AA, an incredibly stressful and costly experience.

During the engine rebuild, my mechanic discovered that the engine had already been previously rebuilt and fitted with non-original parts.

It’s deeply disappointing and has caused a massive inconvenience and unexpected financial burden.

I strongly urge you to have any vehicle independently inspected by your own trusted mechanic before committing to a purchase. Do not fall for sales tactics that create urgency or competition, trust your own due diligence.

Unfortunately, Trustpilot reviews can only be backdated 12 months, and the issue I experienced occurred recently. The actual purchase date was 04/11/2022

They are dishonest!!!!!

They are dishonest!!!!!
Brought a diesel car & agreed to go halves on a new cam belt prior to sale.
We were charged for this & 6months later it has been proven that the work was not carried out!!!!!!!!
We have demanded our money back & they have given it with no quibble as they hadnt even got an invoice with the supposed work recorded.
We have had several cars in the past from here,but now they have lost a returning customer with their blatant dishonesty!!!

Once again Lawson's have disappointed me with their lack of response to a complaint - not what I would have expect from a company who says "We are proud to offer you a first-class customer service".

Bought a car from Jubilee branch unseen…
Bought a car from Jubilee branch unseen with the agreement they would fix the advisories on the MOT.
I picked the car up and it was in a reasonable state, not really looked after.
I drove the car 400 mile to scotland where we discovered non of the work had been done. I had driven a defective and illegal car! Bald tyre, cracked tyres and 2 leaking shockers.
Communication was ok but not great with branch (mal and Gary) but as i had it in writing this work had been done they didnt hesitate for me to get the car to a garage and they paid the £600+ bill without hesitation.
So it was a disappointing sale but in the end it was resolved quickly and i love my little car.
I would buy from here again but I'd throughly check over any car before driving it away as there are trustworthy issues here.

If they are this rude before you buy, I cannot imagine how bad they might be after a sale. Avoid.

Would give zero if option available. I have never been spoken to by such an arrogant patronising rude uncaring disinterested so-called salesperson in my life. He claimed to have a vast stock of hundreds of cars selling “hundreds” a week, and could not be bothered to check and answer some very basic questions. I am so glad I did not part with any money. I thought this kind of car salesman attitude disappeared years ago but sadly it appears not. Awful.

Horrible, nasty, uncaring company

Really wish Trustpilot with give a zero star option.

Worst company I have ever had the unpleasure of dealing with.
After having my car purchased from them the clutch broke. Followed their instructions to put it into a VAT garage to repair it which I did. Two weeks later I still do not have the car back. The garage I put it into for repair was in constant contact with lawson and then they say, actually, the garage you put it into is too expensive, we will pick it up and get it repaired here (ie - Lawson motors)
The whole stalling to pay for the car to be fixed was tactics to use up time. My car which they still have in their care for 6 days is being fixed. Well it has been fixed. I am a war veteran and told them shortly after that I had received a letter from the medical department of the DVLA telling me 'Do not drive'. I sent proof of this to lawson. They are now refusing to refund me or be cooperative at all. Don't answer my calls or emails.
They are now saying that because I sent the car back to them (under their order) to get my car fixed they are now saying They will not refund me because the car is back with them being repaired, they said once we got the car back we do not have to give a refund. They will simply send the car back to me ( I do not have a clue when as they ignore me). I have never experienced such unkind, uncaring and unprofessional behaviour in my 30 yrs of driving and buying cars.

I wonder how many people they have done this to? I am certain it is not lawful as I purchased something that was broken, any other company in the world would refund you. bar none, well apart from Lawson Motors, Appropriate name choice when they do not follow the law. They have even threatened me with legal action because I got frustrated as to why they were acting so disrespectful and unprofessional and making me feel like a piece of dirt.
I have a car in their care yet have no say about anything and feel like my car has been stolen from me (as they will not refund me ignoring he consumer rights act 2015). I can honestly see this having to go to court as at the moment I see no light at the end of the tunnel. They have made me feel worthless, insignificant and ignore my feelings and worries.

Please, anyone reading this. Please avoid.

For legal reasons as I know what they will try to do because I posted this....This is my own opinion from my continuing horrible experience with this company. I am not giving advice in any way. Do your due diligence by checking trust pilot before using any company.
