Everything was awesome and we loved our campervan; it was in great condition with no major issues overall. Just a couple of pieces of feedback for the team to check before handing campers over in the future: one of the drawers was loose and came off while driving, so we had to keep it secured with tape for the rest of the trip. Also, the snow chains weren't provided, something we didn't think to check at pickup, but realised only when we spotted a snow chains signboard on the road and went to check. Because of this, we ended up taking a coach to Milford Sound instead of driving there ourselves. That said, we really appreciated that the team refunded our coach tickets, a genuinely good gesture that didn't go unnoticed.

I took Mercedes Sprinter 2 berth. Both the campervan interior and exterior were in an amazing condition. The interior was clean, had extra linen as well. The drive was smooth and all the technical component works well. If there is one thing that could be improved, it would be adding some sort of straps to the kitchenware to reduce the noise they make when on the move.
During pick up and drop off, I was served by Lucie who was very nice and helpful.

This company claims to offer high-end vehicles and charges a premium price, but their management and cleanliness are absolutely appalling. For anyone looking to rent from them, please pay close attention to the following two points so you don't repeat our painful mistake.
1. Count every single item upon vehicle pickup—especially the bedding!!
We picked up a Maui River 6-berth motorhome on August 23rd. Since it was our first time and we were struggling to understand the lengthy briefing, we felt a bit anxious and hit the road immediately. It wasn't until I climbed up to the top bed that I realized there were only three pillows (and one was incredibly lumpy). I quickly called their hotline. The agent sounded very accommodating and told me I could just buy two pillows on the road, suggesting $30 NZD should get me decent ones. I trusted him.
However, when we unpacked the bedding bundle that evening, we discovered there were only two thin blankets and two duvets. To make matters worse, a clump of hair fell out of one of the blankets. Foolishly, I didn't call the hotline again. I figured since we could buy pillows, buying blankets would be just as easy.
Finding pillows and blankets was incredibly difficult. Our first stop was Wanaka. Being our first time at a campsite, we spent time getting familiar with the vehicle's hookups and setup. By the time we rushed out to find supermarkets and shops, almost everything was closed. The supermarket didn't sell pillows at all. We had no choice but to tough it out for the night.
As a result, my eldest child probably shifted the top sheet (which separates the blanket from the skin) while tossing and turning. The dirty blanket touched her neck, chin, and cheeks, causing a severe, bright red allergic reaction. (P.S. It subsided a bit after we finally bought a blanket the next day, but they still have lingering red patches even after returning to Taiwan).
On the second day, we reached Lake Tekapo. After searching around, a store clerk told us our only option was to look for small pillows and blankets in souvenir shops. I ran to about three shops to compare prices. I didn't dare buy a $500 NZD wool blanket, but I finally managed to find an outdoor inflatable pillow for $55 NZD and a synthetic thin blanket for $95 NZD. I figured I would explain our predicament to the company upon return.
However, when we returned the vehicle on August 28th, the receptionist told us that out of our $150 NZD receipts, they could only reimburse $30 NZD. They offered another $37 NZD as compensation for the filthy blanket, totaling $67 NZD. Furious, I said, 'In that case, I'm not leaving the pillows and blankets with you.' She replied that if I took them, the $30 NZD wouldn't be reimbursed.
In the end, we only got a $37 NZD refund—and two sick family members. My husband had given his duvet to us and only slept with the thin blankets. The vehicle only had one small, single-directional heater. Usually in perfect health, he fell ill right after we returned the car and had to push through the sickness all the way from Queenstown to Auckland, and back to Taipei. Soon after, my eldest child also caught it—compounding her unresolved allergies with a terrible cold.
2. Always report issues immediately and spam their hotline!!
Learn from our painful lesson: if anything goes wrong, document and report it right away. Do not wait until the end of the trip to bring it up.
My next step will be filing a formal complaint with the New Zealand Consumer Protection related agency.

The start to a great experience was the initial pickup and walk theough with Rowan, explained everything thoroughly and made start to snowboarding week easy. Everything about camper except size of TV(slightly bigger would have been spoton) was more than acceptable. Cheers Maui🏔🏂🥳

Brand new casade campervan 13k on the clock. Very clean and comfy second time in 2 years we have rented this. Very easy booking process and got a great deal booking through the website. Very satisfied and definitely my go to brand to book. You definitely pay for what you get.

Not very well equipped for free camping, only 12v sockets were on floor behind drivers seat so not very useful, 240v set up needs more outlets, had to cook toast on bed and boil kettle on floor or would have had to pack up entire bed and bedding to use on table leaving no room to sit, very small toilet and shower cubicle so we didn’t use them, paid for powered sites each night to use showers and 240v to charge phones, next time will just hire a car for half the price and stay in cabins.

This was our fourth time using Maui motorhomes but our first time visiting Queenstown in winter. Service was brillant right from the moment we arrived to pick up the van, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Completing the online check-in in advance made the pick-up process super quick and easy.
The motorhome was fully equipped with everthing from Kitchen essentials to cozy bedding. A pleasant surprise was how fuel-efficient it was: running the heater day and night had hardly any impact on fuel consumption. Excellent value all round. Thanks, Maui team!

House battery died. Called on help line - no assistance available for 4 days.
Plumbing blocked, drains would not drain unless outlet pipe was open. Lots of human hair on the blankets had to shake them out before use.

We had the Maui ultimate plus for 14days. The trip in the van its self was quite good. It is small with very little space for just two people but that wasn’t a big deal. When we picked the van up the girl who went through the van with us was a young girl who was more worried about the cold then showing us the actual van and how to operate everything so we used the app they provided to locate and learn everything properly. The van only had 30,000 roughly km on it so quite new yet we had the blinds keep breaking on us as well as on of the compartments on the outside of the van which had a little latch to open and broke off as soon as we touched it. Luckily I had photos of everything so we weren’t charged extra for that. The main problem was when we dropped our van off we were asked to pay some tax for the kilometres we did HOWEVER when we signed and paid for the van it had in writing ( which we showed) that we had unlimited kilometres. We showed the lady but she advised this was apparently a new thing. Yes in the end we paid for it but I disagree with the fact we had to pay for it as it was not on the agreement we signed.

Loved the motorhome and the Maui were very responsive when we needed to change plans prior to pick up. The service was great at both pick up and drop off, staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Would highly recommend Maui motorhomes to anyone travelling around NZ.

Maui Motorhome rentals were the BEST possible choice we could have made for our 7 day camper van adventure on the South Island of New Zealand! Easy to book and our van was clean and ready when got there. The staff was very friendly and made sure we understood the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Highly recommend!

Great car, great service. Everything was convenient from booking to picking up the car. Our car was in an accident, but the center took excellent care of it. We were even able to continue using the car until the scheduled return date.

I rarely leave bad reviews, but this experience with Maui honestly left a really bad impression.
We booked and paid for a Maui Beach 4 Berth, but ended up getting a lower-tier Britz Wanderer instead.
Mistakes happen, and honestly, if the company had handled it properly from the start, I probably wouldn’t even be writing this review.
What really frustrated us was the way the refund process was handled afterward.
At first, Maui only offered NZD $175 compensation plus the road user charge waiver. The amount didn’t really make sense considering the difference between the camper we booked and the one we actually received.
So we ended up having to check the pricing ourselves, take screenshots, calculate the difference, and question the numbers directly.
Only after we pushed back did they revise the calculation and increase the refund by another NZD $445.
What made this even more disappointing was that one of the reasons we specifically booked the Maui Beach model was for the large rear window.
We had actually planned part of our trip around that experience and even booked accommodation at Lake Tekapo because we wanted to enjoy the scenic drives and views from inside the camper.
The vehicle we received had no rear window at all.
It might sound like a small detail to some people, but when you spend this much money on a premium campervan trip through New Zealand, those details are exactly what you are paying for.
Instead of enjoying the scenery the way we had planned, the experience felt compromised from the start.
For a company that markets itself as a premium brand, the whole process felt unnecessarily frustrating and disappointing.
At no point during pickup were we proactively offered a proper explanation or fair adjustment for receiving a different vehicle than the one we specifically booked and paid for.
Instead, it felt like the responsibility was entirely on us to notice the issue, question the numbers, and fight for a fair resolution ourselves.
The problem wasn’t just getting a different vehicle.
It was the feeling that we had to work far too hard just to get a reasonable outcome in the first place.
Definitely not the experience we expected from Maui.
My response to maui latest reply:
Thanks for your response.
I understand that substitutions may sometimes be necessary. However, I was disappointed that I was not notified before arriving to collect the vehicle. Finding out only at pickup left me with no real choice but to accept the replacement.
What I find even more surprising is that if the substitute vehicle was indeed a downgrade, no partial refund or compensation was offered at all.
From a customer's perspective, being given a lower-category vehicle without prior notice and without any adjustment in price is difficult to view as fair.
I'd appreciate an explanation regarding both points.
