I took my 2021 Ford Ranger into Mavis Tire this morning for an oil change and tire rotation using their advertised coupons (free rotation and $30 off the oil change). What should have been a straightforward visit turned into a frustrating display of incompetence and poor customer service.
While I waited, a young technician came in and refused to perform the tire rotation, claiming my wheels had spacers on them. I’ve owned this truck since it was new, have had the tires rotated regularly with no issues, and know for a fact there are no spacers. When I assured him of this, he still refused, saying he could get fired if he took the wheels off. I suggested he simply remove one wheel to verify, but he wouldn’t budge. Even after the assistant manager got involved, there was no resolution—the manager lacked the leadership to make a simple call, and the technician continued to insist based on nothing more than feeling a ridge between the spokes with his finger.
I canceled my plans to purchase tires and brakes there, had them complete only the oil change, and left. The oil change alone came to $110 after the coupon.
This experience highlighted a clear lack of proper training and mechanical knowledge from the staff. In the automotive industry, confidently misidentifying a normal wheel feature as a spacer and then refusing service over it is unacceptable. Confidence is good; being confidently wrong is not a recipe for success in this business.
I will not be returning to this Mavis location. There are better shops that respect their customers’ knowledge of their own vehicles and can handle basic services without drama.
