This is the 3rd email!

I have no other option but to write a 3rd review in regards to Modern Group! I paid $1,220 as a deposit for shutters then I found that I wouldn’t have the money to pay for them. No manufacturing had been started, not even a measure up. After many emails and phone calls to them I was told that they would give me half of my deposit back. I received $600. I sought legal advice and sent a Final Letter of Demand for the rest of my deposit. I received a reply to my 2nd review on TrustPilot saying they have already addressed my complaint. No! They definitely have not! I’m on the Aged Pension and desperately need the remaining $620 back. Come on Modern, do the right thing and try and get your reputation up at least a little bit. Currently sitting at 2.3. Not good for an established company!

Their quote was reasonable and better than others.
The process moved forward to plan.
The installation was carried out to my satisfaction.
Staff were friendly and courteous.
Jackson Grech and other staff kept me informed throughout the process.

Don't Purchase Outdoor Blinds

Don't Purchase Outdoor Blinds - Buyer Beware Was quoted and paid top dollar, for what was promised to be top quality/commercial grade outdoor blinds. Original installation was carried out by a tradie who I later discovered had not been properly trained in the product, as their main installation guy was off work injured. Have now had 4 warranty issues to be recetified, including parts breaking, due to original incorrect installation. Last month, one of the blinds free-fell over 1.5m (approx 10kg weight dropping), nearly hitting my wife in the head. A "Major Fault" under Australian Consumer Law (which required suppler to provide a full refund), includes safety issues. A 10kg drop from that height could be fatal, especially to my kids. Have asked for full refund, but the supplier is refusing, as the manager claims he doesn't think that it's a major fault. Do not trust this company, especially the outdoor blinds division in Perth.

Experience Shows – Very Happy with Modern Roller Shutters

Just had a Modern Roller Shutter installed at my home and I couldn’t be happier with the result. While they may be a little more expensive than some alternatives, you genuinely get what you pay for — quality product, professional installation, and excellent service.

Having dealt with Modern for over 20 years, the service has always been first class, and this experience was no exception. Highly recommend Modern to anyone considering roller shutters.

Out of touch / poor service

Asked for an outdoor blinds quote and made it clear I’m the sole decision-maker. The salesperson still insisted my husband had to be present and pushed to add his details. Never asked first if I was even married / if he worked away / nothing. Just straight up insisting he needed to be there for colour selection a decision making. Outdated and frustrating business protocols in 2026 to have to deal with this from a company that calls themselves modern. Taking my business elsewhere.

AVOID! Sales tactics prevent receiving a quote without forcing you to have your partner present

Debbie on the phone tried to book appointment for quote with Wife, advised I am the financial decision maker, mortgage in my name only. Still wanted to book with wife, when the appointment isn't requiring two people to accept any agreement. Someone came to provide quote, did not want to measure and quote until she could do so with my wife present. The sales tactics are getting obvious and old. I just wanted a cost to know if we can financially afford the blinds. If you want to use sales tactics on me and decline to provide a price, then what's the point?

No show to appt

No show to appt! Made a poor excuse of cancellation of the appt because of not answering a call. I've never had a company be a no show if they didn't get a call back. Any kind of msg could be enough to inform of cancellation, this is the modern world, haha.
Nick didn't want to come for the appt and tried to get out of it. Since I caught him out, he tried to put it back on me that's their company policy to be a no show if you don't answer their call. If that's the case, you should have that in all your appt bookings notice and that should be your company slogan, haha. "No answer = No show, even though you've made the appt intentionally." Haha

Good Afternoon,

We purchased outdoor blinds from your company due to having them already at our other property.

Your consultant Anthony McAleer visited us at our home, we explained that we had a blind previously fitted to our other house and the blind stopped water entering through the fabric.

There were blinds already fitted at our new house which were Zip Track, showed Anthony that these ones let water straight through and you could see the water on the ground and it was made very clear numerous times that we wanted no water to enter our outdoor area (image was also attached), this was noted as we had all new outdoor furniture still wrapped in plastic awaiting waterproof blinds installed.

After going through the details with Anthony we chose colour and %, this wasn't an issue as again numerous times i mentioned as long as it stops the water entering the enclosed outdoor area i wasn't bothered to much and the cost wasn't a big issue as we just wanted what we asked for.

We agreed on the details, and we offered to pay cash which we thought would get us a better service and Anthony he could offer a discount due to this.

A call was made from your Production Manager Alex, 4 weeks later advising that the colour fabric we chose was not available for another 3 months, (not sure why it took 4 weeks to advise) it is also noted at this stage we had already paid $7000 based on our selections.

After consulting my wife, we agreed to change the colour as we didn't want to be delayed any longer having the install completed.

A variation was applied with both parties signing.

At this stage we were OK with the colour change and the promptness to have the blinds installed quicker.

My wife received a call 5th September from Alex advising the 99.9% is no longer available however they had 99.0% available, again this was not what we requested. My wife clearly explained to Alex, does this stop the rain entering as this was our one and only request.

Alex advised that even thou the fabric was now 99.0% it would stop any water entering the outdoor area.

At this stage i spoke directly with Alex who confirmed we would not have any water issues,
Asked if the price changes now since its not the product we requested of which was informed no.

We took this as truth from Alex and proceeded with another variation.

The blinds were installed by Pierre, the installation was extremely good as what i would expect from your company after having previously used you.

Pierre also confirmed the ones he took down were not of the same quality as Moderns and the selection we made would stop and water issues as he could also see how water was just entering the area.

Two days after the install one of the cables linked to the handle had broken, called Alex and was advised Pierre will pop back in a few days later as he was also replacing the handle on the blind at my other property, this took 6 weeks to for someone to attend the other property, we had to reschedule the tenant 4 times due to no one turning up.

Four days after the installation we had a weekend of rain, it became apparent on the first lot of rain that these blinds were not waterproof and if anything as bad as the ones we replaced. Our brand new furniture that we finally had a chance to un plastic was cover in water.

When Pierre turned up to replace the handle, my wife explained that the blinds were not waterproof and were suppose to stop water entering, at this stage Pierre advised they would allow a little water in (images provided showing water entry and clearly a lot more than a little water).

Emailed Alex directly 2nd October, 7th October and 19th October(copied of emails attached).

We also emailed the company feedback portal 14th October and to this day we have not had a response from Alex or anyone from your company.

Customer service is paramount nowadays and especially when you spent $15000 an no-one has the decency to respond to our issues.

My job is in a high paced industry and if i treated a customer like the way i have been treated i would be without a job.

To outlay that kind of money when everyone is struggling and not be contacted has now played a big part of my mental health declining, i cant stand looking at the blinds and am here writing this to you while hoping it doesn't rain as these blinds are not worth the money we spent.

We understand and accept the variations but wont accept these are the blinds we requested and paid for.

If your salesman and production manager actually listened to our numerous requests i would not need to bring this to your attention.

If we were advised there was an error and it may have cost us a bit more we would of been happy to oblige, however the fact I'm chasing you guys down to get a response we will not be entertaining the thought of paying any extra money.

DO NOT BUY FROM MODERN VICTORIA - SCAMMERS

I would like to warn others considering dealing with Modern Group, the quality of the outdoor blinds are not fit for purpose, we have been calling them back for constant repairs ever since they have been installed, just on 12 months. They are now evading us to send someone out to look at the blinds as now the track they attached to the pergola has fallen off, they claim due to the weather, but they should be made to be out in the weather, looks like they didn't secure the tracks with proper screws/rivets. Do your research before buying from them, they charge way too much for a product not fit for purpose .
I WISH I HAD READ ALL THE REVIEWS BEFORE OUR QUOTE, NEVER WOULD HAVE GONE WITH MODERN IN VICTORIA, JUST READ ANOTHER REVIEW DESCRIBING THE SAME TACTICS SALESMAN HAD USED WITH US WITH THE PRICING! THEY QUOTE A HIGH AMOUNT, THEN A FAKE CALL TO THE MANAGER, MAGICALLY THEY OFFER A DISCOUNT IF YOU DISPLAY THE SIGN, THE INSTALLER SETS UP THE SIGN, TAKES A PHOTO AND THEN TAKES THE SIGN WITH HIM WHEN HE LEAVES, THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCAM I HAVE EVER FELL FOR, THIS WILL BE GOING TO THE ACCC OR VCAT FOR SURE, THEY CAN'T BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH OUTRIGHT RIPPING PEOPLE OFF.

If there was a minus star option I…

If there was a minus star option I would select that!
Do not purchase through this company is what I wish I was told prior to making an expensive and frustrating mistake!
If looking for blinds and considering modern group SA I would suggest you consider these options:
1.look elsewhere
2.throw quoted amount of money for the blinds in the bin
3.hit your head against a brick wall multiple times

Being someone who did not opt for option 1, I feel I basically have taken option 2 and 3 by going with modern group.
Very quick to quote and take your money, this is where their efficiency ends.

Have had 4 outdoor blinds installed which we were fortunate enough to use a total of ten times max till the material broke away from the frame and they got stuck going down.

Calling constantly for at least 6 months now to have the same conversation each time. Unsure if it is now an office joke when they seem confused by my call and appearing that the information is new to them or if they deal with these calls constantly they are confused with who’s who.

Pretty sure there is zero communication or messages passed on to different workers within the office. Get told each week after relaying the same information that someone will call me to arrange coming out. In 6 months I have not had one call back, I then call back to have the same conversation and follow the same process.

Had it booked in once and no one turned up and there was no communication leading to me having to follow up again. When someone did come up they said the work required was far greater than the time allocated and he would relay to them and get it booked in. Never heard back. Called again to follow up to be told they thought everything was fixed. So currently back to square one with expensive blinds that we can’t use.

Have tried to find out information on their complaints procedure, ask for them to remove the blinds and refund, have spoken to management with the outcome being on par to if my pet dog was left to resolve the query.

I would say hanging a a bed sheet would be a more positive outcome than having to get blinds through modern group.

Mind is blown that anyone has had a positive experience.

Would love modern group to just remove the blinds and refund so I no longer have to call for such a simple request.

hands down the worst company with the…

Extremely disappointing. This has been, without a doubt, the worst company I’ve dealt with. The blinds are overpriced, poor quality, and the customer service has been abysmal. After using the blinds fewer than ten times, I was told they now require significant repairs. Despite calling every week for over six months, I’ve seen no progress or resolution whatsoever. I’m beyond frustrated. I will continue to leave reviews after each unresolved phone call until this is addressed.. Avoid this company at all costs! modern blinds... come collect your blinds and refund my money. I think consumer affair is needed to resolve this.

Grrr USELESS company WA

The initial consultation until the installation and the fixing of installations was 12 months, no communication, bad roller shutters, asked for money when we already paid in full, now 3 years on the rollers shutters don't open, remotes don't work, shutters motor makes noise but won't respond to going up nor down, when calling to the Wangara office the reception lady doesn't listen just cuts you off two words in, and the guy I'm put through to doesn't take anything seriously. It's a fire hazard when these things won't open, which I made a point of to him and he said "oh well" there showed a manual opener in case of fire. This company has made me so incredibly angry and made my blood boil. Do not use your hard earned money to this company.

Modern Group WA - What a scam!!!

We were looking to have our roof restored and requested quotes from three companies. Two came in between $7-9K. Then Moderns!

Lady on the phone was great. Called multiple times to make sure all was good for the appointment (Aug 7th @ 9:30am). Insisted that both myself and wife were present (first alarm bell).

Anthony showed up, albeit 10min late. Very pleasant. Went around the house, stomped on the roof, then the games began! He came in with a sign and started his spiel about the company via an old dilapidated folder, noted products were all made themselves (didn’t use Dulux Roof Membrane - second alarm bell) and tried the anti-fungal spray upcharge.

Then it got interesting. He wrote a bunch of numbers down on a piece of paper, starting price of $28K!
Talked about their marketing budget being part of the cost and if we put a sign up we could reduce this price down by $3K
Then a fake phone call to the marketing department in front of us, played the advocate part well and got another $7K off the price if we agreed to have the sign out for 20 weeks.

Now we are sitting at $18K, still more than twice what the other two had offered. He said we had to commit now to get that price. Well enough was enough so we turned to him and said that we had other quotes coming in and would make a decision shortly. We requested he write up his proposal and email to us, we would review with the others. He hesitated and was a bit surprised and then wrote down the final offer on a piece of paper and gave it to us! No description of the works to be done, no T&Cs and no Warranty/Product descriptions!! (third alarm!!). And no, we did not get a copy of the “free” 33-point roof inspection he mentioned! We ushered him out and never heard from them again.

Moral of the story is - Always get multiple quotes, even if someone comes recommended, as it helps educate yourself on the scope of works and to determine what the true value of the job is.

In response to Cas below. Nice PR stunt to cover up your totally dishonest behaviour. If this was an end of year special in June why wasn't it offered in the first place on 2nd June? Also why did Jackson Grech tell me on the phone that he had authority to override the quote provided by Michael just days before with absolutely NO mention of any "end of year" deals? Also why didn't Jackson respond to my email? Thanks for confirming that your sales tactics are completely fraudulent. This is utter and complete crap and BS. You wouldn't know the meaning of ethical behaviour so spare me the crocodile tears about your "standard". Feel sorry for people who accept your first quote thinking they've got a good deal.

Dodgy, unprofessional, unethical and a bunch of rogues! This Company is an absolute fraud. Don't touch with a barge pole!Details below.

Made an appointment to get a quote for new Roller Shutters. Michael visited on 2 June 2025 and wasted an hour of our time after arriving late trying to work out a quote after asking to come inside. All other suppliers spent 15 minutes and provided a quote without asking to come inside! He left when I told him we had another appointment without providing a quote. After a few failed attempts the quote finally arrived by text for $ 8,250 which we thought was ridiculous and said that to Jackson Grech when he made a follow up call some days later. He apologised for our experience and said he was in a senior management position, could overrule Michael's quote and would send us a better offer for our consideration when I said we couldn't even consider the ridiculous price on the original quote. He then sends a quote - "Updated proposal for roller shutters 571780" - for nearly half the price originally quoted so I wrote to him on 10 June 2025 as follows but still waiting for a response!

"Hi Jackson

I am gobsmacked by the markdown in your latest offer!
How can we trust your company if you were looking to rip me off with such a massive inflated price in the first place?
You guys are very dodgy, unprofessional and unethical in all your dealings and therefore cannot be trusted. Your sales BS and tactics are a complete turn off treating your customers like idiots.
So no thanks mate.

P.S.
Eventually got exactly the same shutters at less than half the price from another supplier who were transparent, honest and professional in all their dealings with us and great with after sales service and any questions. The owner even spent a couple of hours setting up remote wifi access for us at no extra cost after the installation. We even ended up getting a second round of Shutters as we were so happy with the product. There's a few cowboys out there making people feel like they are getting big discounts and there's always a good deal on atm, blah blah blah so "Buyer Beware" indeed and do shop around.

We Do NOT Use Modern Group Newcastle

We want to share our experience to help prevent others from going through the same thing.
Modern Group Newcastle took our deposit with no intention of doing the work. It was only after we paid that we were informed the company was going through a "restructure." We were never told this upfront.
This is completely unacceptable. We believe this was done in bad faith, and we’re now out of pocket as a result.
In difficult times, it’s heartbreaking to see companies taking advantage of hardworking families who are already struggling.
We strongly advise against using Modern Group or any of its associated businesses.

Good experience with this business, contacted them because a friend had just had her roller blinds undated and she recommended them. Was contacted and kept updated with quotes and anticipated installation dates via phone and email by the very helpful Melanie Kies and also had a serviceman call next time he was in Victoria and a quote emailed within a reasonable amount of time. Roller blinds installed quickly and are operating really well, so much so that I placed a second order for another roller blind. That too was delivered and installed in a timely manner by the very obliging Tom.

Look fantastic, opens the room up

I ordered plantation shutters for my kitchen to replace the existing blinds.
Wow what a difference. The kitchen is located on the west side, very hot in summer.
The blind cut out the light & breeze. I can control both by moving the blades.
They look fabulous.
Customer service was outstanding. The quote was competitive, quality great and everyone I dealt with were amazing and kept me informed.
