NCG Top 100s Tour Avis 

A superb few days in Suffolk. Claire and her husband were terrific. Welcoming, well organised, and highly professional. Woodbridge and Ipswich Purdis Heath were excellent given the time of year and a really good test of golf. Thorpeness was a bit disappointing. The condition wasn’t great, which is a shame given the history, quirkiness and surroundings.

Just finished 3 lovely days playing golf in Suffolk- Woodbridge, Thorpeness and Ipswich.

Each day was superbly organised by Claire and Tony from the pre event communications, to on the day arrangements. They always give you a friendly welcome.

I'd definitely recommend doing an NCG event. Always great value for money

Played the last 3 days of the event, Nairn, Fortrose and Cabot Highlands. All the courses were top notch as usual and the staff were fantastic. Matt was his usual calm and welcoming self and it was a fantastic trip topped off with good weather.

The only grumble was that I paid full price for my entry as I booked it last year and then kept getting notifications of price drops and telling me to book on.

We played Nairn and Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf courses and they were lovely. I must say the organisation was excellent and Matt was a superstar.

First class from booking process to hosting the events. Matt was on top of everything and organised everything with friendly and efficient manner.

4 excellent courses

I had a great day out playing in the top 100 tour, a stableford competition meant that the day was pretty smooth going and some very good scores although I always feel the high handicap players have the advantage. The day was run very well and the food and complementary balls were an added bonus, if they’d have been tp5’s it would have been better but in the whole I’d definitely sign up for another.

Two fantastic days on the NCG Top 100s tour at Royal Porthcawl and Pennard, where the golf was as top-notch as the hospitality. A big shout-out to Claire, who hosted with charm and flair—her twin sister Jane clearly passed on the hosting genes after doing a stellar job in Kent last week. If you're looking for a great golfing experience, I can't recommend these events enough. The courses are superb, the catering’s always a treat, and the hosting is absolutely on point. What’s not to love about playing some of the best courses, having a bit of friendly competition, and getting fed in the process?

Excellent organisation by Jane over the two days in Kent. Courses worth a visit even when the courses are just coming out of winter. Will look at other events that they run.

Played my first NCG event at Lindrick today. Great day, well organised, fantastic course and great company. Well done to the two Andrew’s who came in 2nd and 3rd. I’ll be booking some more events soon 👍

Very enjoyable day, well organised as usual. spoilt a little by the post round meal. In all the NCG events I have attended over the last 3 years it was the worst meal.

I recently played in the South Wales Swing. Claire and Tony were great, so welcoming and knowledgeable. The whole event was well organised and I met some old friends and made some new ones. Well done NCG, especially Claire and Tony, always smiling even with the weather!

Top class organisation. Claire did a great job of getting people the tee-slots they wanted. Special credit for all her hard work at Machynys where due to a mix up between NCG and the club, the tee-times had to be shifted by an hour. Then due to heavy rain, so many people dropped out at the last minute, requiring v quick action by Claire to get people to the tee appropriately. Also Tony, as starter, did a great job of getting people organised at the 1st tee. Also a lovely chap to have a nice chat with. Tenby was the first course of the South Wales Swing. Off the white pots this was much too tough. Not because of the length of it, but due to there being a 30 mph wind & knee deep rough just 5 yds off each side of the fairway in a lot of places. This led to half the field {50+ players] scoring 25 pts or less. Combine that with blind tee shots, holes crossing each other, it was not an enjoyable experience, and talking with my playing partners during the rest of the south wales swing, my feelings were echoed by many others. I the attention of Tenby GC to this Golf Monthly article on what golf clubs can do to help avoid slow play on their courses by adjusting course setup. {Golf monthly . com /features/golf-clubs-must-do-more-to-prevent-avoidable-slow-play-and-stop-blaming-golfers?} It also was a 5 hr+ round {which is almost the standard for all the NCG events, and is the only aspect that detracts from them being 5 star enjoyable experiences} Enjoyed Ashburnham, good condition and much more forgiving than Tenby. The only course I have played where a Par 3 [the 6th] is their stroke 1 hole!! Exceptional!! Back 9 especially nice in amongst the dunes. Pyle & Kenfig - In my opinion the best condition of the 4 course event. Fairways were immaculate & rough areas graduated well from whispy, to heavy, such that it was possible to find most balls, except a very wide miss. Greens very good {as they were at all the courses}. A course of two halves, with the back 9 feeling twice as difficult as the front, as it winds through the dunes, with gorse and wild grass areas much closer to the action. Then Machynys. A Nicklaus course. Very much a constructed course, with generous fairways, lots of bunkers just offline to catch any errant shots. Plus lots of water hazards and huge undulating greens. A very different challenge than the other 3 but an enjoyable challenge & round, even though played it in wet and raining conditions. Apart from Tenby, the rest were a delightful Tour, so I will readily seek to play the other 3 again. But anything that can be done to help make the rounds nearer to 4 hours rather than over 5 {it was the same for the Leeds swing too} would improve the experience to be 5 star. I suggest a member of NCG team play the course just ahead of events, to make a call on the difficulty of it, thus to decide whether white or yellow tees are the most suitable for the men, to offer the fairest, most enjoyable experience for the majority

Having had a couple of days to recover and reflect on our 4 days in Wales, I think that the events were very well run as they have been on other events that I have been on. On this occasion the weather was not great and made playing these fantastic courses challenging for every one in our party of 10 from single handicap golfers to 18 handicap players. The food was good at all the events Ashburnham's buffet being my pick for the best narrowly beating Tenby's very good burger. With getting on for a 100 golfers (some of them not as young as they were) playing competitive golf in challenging conditions they are never going to be quick rounds so probably best to remember that when booking if you are on a tight time scale.

A very well run competition and Claire and her colleague were very welcoming and cheerful.The courses we played were fantastic and our group would definitely be returning.
The only gripe we had was the amount of time it took some groups to play the 18 holes.Our group were held up each day and taking 5 hours plus to play 18 holes is really to slow.

The organisation and information updates were superb, Claire and Tony greeted us and made us welcome and set the tone for each event, overall, the courses were great, the weather was challenging, but the freindly competitive nature of these events is just something else, if you haven't done it yet, get in there, you won't be disappointed.
