Terrible and completely useless platform
The only positive aspect of Nomad List is knowing for sure each member is real (since you have to pay for it). It doesn't matter that much in the end though, since the community is not active.
The non-sensical organisation plays a huge role in that. For example once I wanted to plan an event and put my personal details like Phone number and Instagram, in case people get lost. They just cancelled my event because of that. That doesn't help people to network in the first place and the funniest part is that I was allowed to share my contacts by private message... So, what's the difference? Like if I got the time to text every single person coming to my event, please!
Some of the Telegram groups are also cancelled, and when it comes to remote jobs it offers 0 advantages. The platform (OK Remote) can be accessed without relying on Nomad List in the first place, and it still presents advertisements posted months or even years ago.
Basically, the only features you can make use of are the dating feature (but users are no active, of course) and reading data from each destination, such as weather, or average feedback from the community... Which is the only nice and useful thing in the end, but still you can find those information somewhere else too 😅.
Still on the platform just because I've already paid for it, but it's objectively impossible to recommend Nomad List in any possible way
Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money. Some features don't work, like neighborhood map. Support is nonexistent. There are enough members only in the biggest cities. I wish I hadn't purchased it.
Incompetent company
Can't create a free account like you could in the past. No explanation. Clicking ''become nomad'', INSTANTLY takes you to a page to pay 100 dollars. WHAT AM I PAYING FOR? Is this some sort of joke?
Here's a crazy idea for you: show people what they get when they buy your crap. Or even better, let people use you website, if even once or twice to get an idea of what your company does.
Or, get a 1 star review and i move to a competor. Mrns
I used app alot before COVID
I used this app alot before the pandemic when travel was safe and widespread. I thought the internal community would be open and accepting but I found that Meetups is still the best for this. Now I think there are alot of scam advertising so today I decided to post this review so that travelers/nomads should be careful. Hiring scams are pretty bad nowadays same with Linkedin.
Star for being useful for travelers before COVID-19 pandemic
Star for rating countries/cities using an obfuscated and probably fraudulent method
From “sign up” to “can’t delete” to “Payment disputed” in under 24 hrs
in the market for data about remote work and travel. came across this site late one evening that was promoting a 1-time membership fee of $200, that was amazingly discounted at 50% off! Signed up, went to sleep. By this afternoon, I have over 50 emails from the NL AI bot (i guess) - every hour on the hour, an assessment that my profile photo was “too blurry” and i need to update it.
went to use the site, changes settings, etc, and experienced interface issues and broken links and a never ending loop of being sent back to my profile page after clicking any of the links. i suspect this is because i didn’t set up the 3rd party software for messaging (which apparently won’t work for NL on the web specifically? suspicious)
i could find NO information about refunds except one sentence in the FAQ i skimmed through- essentially saying that because the account was not subject to a 14 day trial period on their end, the user would NEVER be entitled to a refund! the rest of the language was wildly problematic in my opinion - ALL essentially stating that they take NO liability and that they can use anything posted to the site in perpetuity?
There was also no phone number, no support email to contact and while there is one option buried in the FAQs to “delete account,” THE BUTTON IS BROKEN. the account cannot be deleted? at least not on the user end? I supposedly should not be able to access the account anymore, but was rerouted directly to my profile page every time i clicked “delete account”.
i’ve disputed the transaction with my bank, and made the account as much of a “Nomad List is a Scam” billboard as i possibly could. The AI bots asked me to change the new language LOL
Took money but did not open my account - NO SUPPORT
It almost seems like fraud...
I was stupid enough to pay for the lifetime membership. They took my money - but my account was never created. Whenever I try to log in, it tells me that my email adress is not registered (and yes, I used the correct email). Worst ever: they do not offer any support at all. No email, no contact form, no nothing. Not even a forum (only if you are logged in, but obviously I cannot use that). So I basically paid more than 110 USD for NOTHING! Avoid this platform!
