This is the second year that I have had this insurance and find now that with the deductible there is really no benefit compared to other pet insurances. Lot better plans that cover pet needs. Most likely will not renew with this plan next year and go with another plan

Horrible claims processing

Horrible claims processing. Constantly promise they are on it and constantly do not deliver. Total waste of money. AVOID this company. They are worthless!

Repeated Claim Issues/Appeals and Unclear Policy Communication

Our experience with Pets Best health insurance has been consistently disappointing. Each claim we have submitted has required an appeal due to what appeared to be inaccurate or inconsistent initial evaluations. This recurring issue has made the process unnecessarily time-consuming and frustrating.

A major concern is the lack of consistency in claim assessments. Decisions seem to vary depending on the reviewer, leading to outcomes that feel subjective rather than based on clear, standardized criteria. In many cases, the initial denials have not appeared justified, requiring additional effort on our part to correct them.

Additionally, the overall lack of transparency has been challenging. Certain policy limitations and exclusions were not clearly communicated upfront, which has made it difficult to understand coverage and anticipate claim outcomes. This has created the impression of “hidden” policies that only become apparent after a claim is denied.

Due to these ongoing issues—specifically the cumbersome claims process, inconsistent evaluations, and lack of clarity around coverage—I would not choose Pets Best again and cannot recommend their services.

Lifelong Customers

We’ve used them for years for our two dogs. It’s been pricey, but worthwhile for us. We’ve used it for numerous ER visits and surgeries with quick turnaround times.

Ridiculous

I submitted my claim for a medication and it came back denied and stated not on their list. They had reimbursed for this liver medication before and it is on their list. I called and it took me 40 minutes to get a human on the telephone that said it had been denied in error and she would resubmit for a HUMAN to reevaluate. I submitted the claim on March 1,2026 and just got email stating I was being reimbursed on April 14,2026. The amount of time you are on hold for a human to answer in customer service is HORRIBLE. A month and half for a claim is even worse. I loved Pets Best when I first got it 8 years ago but now if not for the pre existing to switch I would definitely switch companies.

NOT EVEN CUSTOMER'S BEST....

I am disabled senior displaced from new home due to environmental, biohazardous debris in studio apt for 1 mo and counting, canceled PuppySpot delivery and failed to cancel Pet's Best insurance. Many health and habibility issues persist. Pet's Best will only reimburse me for 1 month due to their rigid 30 day cancellation policy. PB website is ADA non-compliant and operator has no phone number for me to escalate my request for the 1 more month of reimbursement. This presents 1 more violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Inaccessibility, inflexibile rules, rigid rip-off, very poor customer service is a serious RED FLAG for pet owners with disabilities.

So thankful for Pets Best

So thankful for Pets Best! We recently had a scary moment with our youngest kitty and it was an expensive few days. Knowing Pets Best was there to help us cover the costs made it possible for us to keep our focus where it mattered: on our kitty and NOT on finances.

Pets Best used to be amazing

Pets Best used to be amazing, but the past couple of years, things just don't seem to be the same quality. First, the website and app constantly have issues. Almost every time I uploaded a claim, they would say they needed an itemized receipt, even though I had already uploaded. I would have to re-upload the exact same document, but it was only after I highlighted the areas that they said were missing from the original upload that they would say the document showed what they needed. (mind you, these were things that could easily be found, like the date of purchase, the dog's name, the medication, and the total price.) For the past at least 6 months, I've had to update every claim I've submitted, "due to not attaching an itemized receipt." The thing is, I've already uploaded the receipt every time. There is some sort of glitch. At first I thought it was the app, so I started using the website, but it's still happening. Reimbursements take way longer than they used to. And, my 11 year old's insurance premium jumped by an exorbitant amount this year compared to the increases in previous year, despite him being very healthy, other than some allergies. Also, they are very hard to get in touch with. The chat box on the website frequently says the wait is too long and that you need to call the number instead.

Run the numbers!

Buying insurance from Pets Best seemed like a good idea and, like all insurance companies- I guess-
turned out to be more of a money maker for Pets Best than the insured. I didn't like that the monthly premium kept going up- automatically, each year as if it should be an accepted way for insurance companies to do business. Like they were owed that increase regardless of pay outs.

Anyway, ultimately, I ran the numbers for me from March '25 to March '26- during which there was another premium increase in July. My total payout for insurance and vet bills was $2325. This included my dog's annual wellness check up and two visits. The total covered and paid by Pets Best was $251! Had I just put money into an interest bearing account for Vet stuff I would have saved $1187. Maybe this doesn't seem like much but it adds up!

I know that the reason insurance is bought is the fear of some big Vet bill- which, I guess, could happen. It's a roll of the dice. However, had I just put money aside for Vet stuff instead of giving it to Pets Best, I estimate that I would have close to seven or eight thousand in the bank at this time.

Claim processing is chaotic and lengthy

Overall we had a negative experience with Pets Best insurance. It took about 5-6 weeks to process our very simple claim for a pet injury. There were instances when Pets Best said that they were missing documents when they had been in fact sent (I could see dates in my emails) and received by Pets Best. I had to make multiple calls to get representatives to double check everything. We could not count on their systems to do what they were supposed to do automatically. Then the representatives said there were problems with filetypes. Who is 2026 still has problems opening pdf's? We sent the filetype they requested but they still had technical problems on their end. After many calls, many emails, and many uploads to make sure that they were doing things correctly, the claim was able to move forward. We had to advocate to get expedited processing after all the chaos. Ultimately, for the cost of Pets Best, there was so much handholding we had to do for Pets Best employees to do their job, that it's really not worth it. We look forward to switching insurers in the future.

Important fact they neglect to mention.

BEWARE. Know what you are doing before you do it. I have never had pet insurance. This was the first time ever. My wife made an appointment for the dog. Took the dog to the vet. Filed the claim and it was denied. WHY? Because the owner info on the invoice was in my wife's name since she made the appointment. Having never had pet insurance, it never occurred to me that the bill had to be in MY name. And, Pets Best does not make that IMPORTANT fact clear on their site. Some user error here, I know. But that is something they should make clear on the site.

Get your vets records yourself to speed reimbursement up

This is the first time I've purchased pet and wellness insurance and I'm a senior citizen. I'm glad I did since my new puppy has had multiple visits to vets here in Hawaii for a suspicious lump. She even had to have a specialist ultrasound. Pets Best has paid for everything as expected, usually in a timely manner. Just be sure you use a vet that is willing to provide and fax/email all medical records when asked. That is normally the only thing that delays payment. I finally asked my vet for a copy of my dog's full medical record. Now every time we have a visit I ask for an update on the records. That way I can just send it to the insurance company myself and not make them ask the vet to them. It really speeds the process up. As long as PB gets the right paperwork they pay quickly.

Giving Ella an amazing opportunity to continue life as a tripod

I was about to cancel this insurance as my Ella, an English mastiff, was healthy however through divine intervention, I kept it. A couple of months later, she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of R back knee in June and now she is a happy very functional tripod. Pets Best has been amazing with reimbursements and allowing Ella to get the treatment that she needs to keep osteosarcoma at bay.

My premiums have risen 50% year over…

My premiums have risen 50% year over year. They say it is only based on age and zip code. When I experimented and set up a new policy under a different name, it was 1/4the the cost of my equivalent policy which I've had for 4 years. Something is fishy here.

Service is good

With my one dog having diabeties, we spend about 150 a month on supplies/meds and you cover it which is great, but the monthly fee is getting higher and making it more difficult to keep up.
