I had been putting off life insurance for months until I heard Policygenius advertised on a podcast and decided to go for it. I got connected with Courtney who was consistently helpful, patient, and persistent. My husband and I have busy work schedules and making the time to complete interviews and forms felt like a big lift. He emphasized how simple it could be and kept us motivated -- if he hadn't been such a good communicator with so much expertise in the process I'm sure we would've kicked the can down the road on this yet again. I'm very happy we didn't.

My husband serves in the U.S. Navy and was denied life insurance coverage solely because he could potentially see combat. In other words, the very fact that he is serving his country disqualified him.
It’s incredibly disappointing to see a company make a conscious decision not to support the very people who risk their lives to protect others. Military families sacrifice more than most people will ever understand, and all we were trying to do was secure protection for our family.
If you are an active-duty service member or part of a military family, you should know that your service may be the reason you are turned away.

The agent I talked to , Philip, was a conceded jerk. Besides being condescending, he suggested that our policy wouldn't be accepted because of a non- life expectancy related illness.

I recently worked with Policygenius for life insurance quotes after hearing about them through Clark Howard. I had previously used Zander Insurance several years ago, so I have a basis for comparison.
My experience with Policygenius was disappointing. Communication was inconsistent, and there were noticeable delays in follow-up throughout the process. At times, I felt like I had to initiate contact to keep things moving. The quotes I received were also higher than I expected based on prior experience shopping for similar coverage.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the workflow or responsiveness. Because of that, I’ve decided to return to the brokerage I used four years ago. In my experience, when a system works well, there’s value in sticking with it.
While others may have a different experience, this one did not meet my expectations, and I wouldn’t use or recommend the service based on this experience.

I had a pleasure of speaking to an agent named Courtney Roy - he was very well experienced and helped a lot to guide me through selecting suitable insurance plan for me. He was never pushy and was very respectful of what I was looking for, as well as my time, which I appreciated a lot. Courtney explained everything clearly and I was honestly so glad I got him as my agent as others were not as helpful as he was!
Not a good experience
I was completely open and honest about my medical issues right away, giving all the information asked for to guarantee a precise initial price. Policygenius gave a lowball premium quote at first, which led to a completely erroneous expectation of affordability in spite of this full transparency. I proceeded with the application based on this figure.
When the last offer came, the lie was exposed. The premium was raised by almost $100 per month, which almost doubled the initial lowball pricing, in addition to the policy being offered at the incorrect coverage level and term length than what I had requested. This fee increase was provided following the evaluation of the medical data, demonstrating that the original price was a conscious attempt to entice me to proceed.
I asked for a copy of the recording of my first discussion with their representative to support the original statement and my complete disclosure when I contacted Policygenius to demand an explanation for this unethical modification and the term discrepancy. Policygenius has blatantly avoided accountability and shown a severe lack of transparency by refusing to reply to this request for documentation.
The entire scenario unequivocally demonstrates a bait-and-switch tactic intended to entice customers before subjecting them to wildly disparate and unreasonable prices. I have ended my association with Policygenius due to these unethical and dishonest activities.
I'm reporting Policygenius for these aggressive and deceptive practices right away by submitting formal complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

company wasn't looking out for me
Didn't like how the company was pushing certain life insurance companies and how limited their information was. WEbsite was nice but they aren't trying to help consumers and are peddling products that pay them commissions

Frustrated and not being helped.
In 2020 I initiated two life insurance policies through Policygenius. We have since moved outside of the US and I'm finding it impossible to cancel the policies and I am not getting support from either Policygenius nor the underwriter. Trying to call them from outside the US is not working. I am frustrated and cannot stop the payments.

No ability to compare quotes
Policygenius ads and its website claim users can "Compare prices among America's top insurers" and "makes it easy to compare personalized quotes and policies from top-rated insurers side by side." I went through the process of inputting my information for life insurance quotes, called to confirm as required, and was given exactly one quote from one insurer over the phone ONLY with my information then being sent to that one insurer and one insurer alone who has been harassing me for my personal information. At least as of June 2025, there does not appear to be any ability to compare quotes and policies "side by side" online via the website as claimed and as previous reviewers seem to refer to. I was never provided that opportunity and after my phone call was ONLY able view the single quoted policy I was locked into over the phone. Policygenius's claims regarding their service do not appear to be true.

Double the Price, Half the Trust
I recently used Policygenius to get life insurance quotes, and I was initially impressed with how easy the process seemed. They quoted me $30 a month, which sounded reasonable, so I moved forward and provided all my personal and private information—everything from my health history to financial details. My wife did the same, and we were both quoted $30. But then, after all that effort, the actual insurance company they connected us with, Pacific Life, came back with a final price of $60 each. That’s a 100% increase! Double the cost, and this was after we’d already invested time and shared sensitive info. It feels incredibly unfair to be hit with such a bait-and-switch. I expected transparency, not a surprise hike that left us questioning the whole process. Disappointing, to say the least.
