Die Reise 2022 mit der Sea Spirit (mit Poseidon Expeditions) in die Antarktis mit Falkland-Inseln und Südgeorgien, war ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Reisevorbereitung, Buchung und Kommunikation mit dem Reiseunternehmen, insbesonders Frau Schneider war perfekt. Immer für Fragen ansprechbar und im Notfall (bei mir eine Klärung bzgl. Änderung des Rückfluges) bis zur Problemlösung im vollen Einsatz! Dafür ein extra großes Dankeschön! Die Reise selbst war einwandfrei organisiert und durchgeführt, die Vorträge interessant und kurzweilig und die Anlandungen einfach nur mega. Mir hat alles so gut gefallen, dass ich in Kürze eine weitere Reise mit Poseidon Expeditions antreten werde, diesmal in die Arktis. Freu mich schon sehr darauf. Ich kann das Unternehmen vollumfänglich empfehlen!!!

The expedition staff found the best landings despite weather and bird flu challenges. The hotel/restaurant staff provided 5 star level service. It was an amazing expedition in a spectacular land.

We recently travelled with Poseidon on a 21 day Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctic Expedition Cruise and it did not disapoint in any way. From the moment we were welcomed on the ship to the very last second we left we could not fault anything. We felt as if we went on holiday with our family, the Expedition staff so professional and proficient, the front of house staff so welcoming, warm and helpful. The staff who looked after our room always smiling and adding those personal touches. Even the Captain kept a look out for those whales. For us the highlight was the kayaking. Martin and Yamil were so infectious with their energy and enthusiasm. Paddling through the tranquillity of the ice and icebergs one minute to hearing the blow of a whale right next to you the next minute.
This trip was a once in a lifetime experience which will be held in our memory banks forever. Thank you Sea Spirit and Poseidon.

Die Antarktisreise mit den Falklandinseln und Südgeorgien war an Bord des Schiffes hervorragend organisiert. Es gab keinerlei Verbesserungsbedarf – die Crew, das Essen und die Aktivitäten waren erstklassig.

Allerdings stellte sich die Situation außerhalb des Schiffes weniger optimal dar. Die Buchung eines Fünf-Sterne-Hotels war verpflichtend, ohne die Möglichkeit, eine günstigere Unterkunft eigenständig zu wählen. Dabei war die Anwesenheit im Hotel am offiziellen Starttag nicht erforderlich, da an diesem Tag keine Aktivitäten stattfanden und das Boarding des Schiffes erst am darauffolgenden Tag um 16 Uhr möglich war.

Zudem musste das Ausrüstungspaket selbst abgeholt und zurückgegeben werden, wobei nach meiner Meinung nach, die Lieferung zum und vom Schiff im Reisepreis inbegriffen sein sollte.

Mir wurde mitgeteilt, dass der Check-in im Hotel um 15 Uhr stattfindet. Vor Ort waren jedoch keine Mitarbeiter von Poseidon anwesend, erst gegen 17 Uhr trafen sie ein, um mir lediglich mitzuteilen, wann und wo ich mich am nächsten Tag einfinden sollte. Somit wartete ich zwei Stunden nachdem Check-in und musste anschließend erneut in die Stadt zurückkehren, um zu Abend zu essen.

Es wäre wünschenswert, dass entweder die Reise von Beginn an umfassend organisiert ist, einschließlich unmittelbar startender Aktivitäten und inkludierter Verpflegung, oder dass Reisende die Möglichkeit erhalten, ihre Unterkunft selbst zu wählen und erst am folgenden Tag direkt zum Schiff zu gehen. In diesem Fall könnte man sich den Tag vorher vor Ort registrieren, um die eigene Ankunft zu bestätigen.

Eine eindrückliche und tolle Reise zum weissen Kontinent mit guter Organisation und einem kompetenten Expeditionsteam. Das "kleine" Schiff Sea Spirit erlaubte viele Erlebnisse (Zodiac-Fahrten und Anlandungen) an unberührten Orten in Falkland, Süd-Georgien und der antarktischen Halbinsel

I have always wanted to visit Antarctica … but do it properly.

Being part of a large cruise and just “seeing” Antarctica didn’t appeal to me.

Poseidon offer a real experience - a true expedition - with just 110 passengers onboard you can be sure of having the opportunity (every day if weather permits) to truly experience Antarctica- with Zodiac Cruises, Daily Landings and expedition team who are individually experts in their field and collectively offer so much. The Sea Spirit crew are simply amazing.

Sure, the cost is higher than sightseeing cruises, but you really get so much more - a lifetime of memories of the unspoiled continent.

Amazing experience on the Antarctic Peninsula for New Years 2025! The Poseidon staff were excellent all around and the ship size was perfect. The service aboard the ship was 5 stars and the expedition staff made the most of every landing and excursion. Even on the sea days and downtime between excursions was kept busy with great briefings and lectures. Highly recommend to anyone considering a cruise to Antarctica!

Best trip of my life. The staff was amazing. The housekeeping, the dining room and the fabulous chef. Every need was thought of. I am a vegetarian and everyone in the dining room looked after me, offering all sorts of suggestions for dinner and lunch. The manager, Miss Paz, was so attentive, she made sure that everything was perfect and it was. The expedition team was professional and personable. They went out of their way to make sure we had amazing landings. The scenery and wildlife were breathtaking but the staff made the trip so unforgettable. The team shared their knowledge of the birds and mammals and their personal experiences working, researching, and observing. The daily lectures were informative and moving due to the team's experiences, which they shared candidly. Thank you, Poseidon for putting together the best team!!

Fantastic small ship with enthusiastic and inspiring expedition team, excellent crew and awesome food and cabin service.
Knowledge and custodianship of this beautiful environment was superbly demonstrated throughout.

We had an amazing experience!! The whole team was amazing esp with the children. They arranged meals according to our preferences every day and made the trip very special for us all. Already missing it

The moment we entered, we were enveloped in an atmosphere filled with delightful aromas that set our taste buds tingling.

Each bite was a unique experience, showcasing various spices and flavors. For the main course, I chose the chana masala, which was hearty and comforting. The chickpeas were perfectly cooked, and the spices were balanced beautifully.

The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our glasses were always filled and our needs met. The ambiance was lively yet cozy, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and special occasions.

To finish, we indulged in the rasgulla, which was the perfect sweet treat. The soft, spongy balls soaked in syrup were a delightful way to end our meal.

We had a wonderful expedition to the Falklands and South Georgia. The crew were excellent at manoeuvring the planned itinerary to account for storms, and the expedition leader had the brainwave of creating the ship’s own time zone (+4 hrs) so that sunrise was at a slightly more civilised time. It was a photography trip, and although there were 4 professional photographers on the expedition, I felt they were there to promote their work more than helping others with their photography and I would have liked more presentations with photography advice. The hotel and restaurant staff were wonderful, and the food excellent, and we have lots of happy memories although it was an exhausting trip!

Terrible! It was by far the worst experience ever.

The ship crew were really good. But the ship was old and uncomfortable. The expedition crew were not, as a whole, what I had expected. For the money I spent, I was expecting quality. A poor and clumsy expedition crew.

Unprofessional expedition crew. Not recommended!

Having just read some recent reviews I am really surprised and sad about the experience Ben M had on the same cruise as me because for me, it was the most exhilarating experience from start to finish.
I was waiting for a Zodiac when Ben was and although there were no seals or penguins near the landing tarp when I arrived, while we were waiting to go back to the Sea Spirit, a weaner Elephant Seal pup came across the beach towards us and decided to investigate the tarp.
The excursion guides kept us as far away from the pup as they could and most of us stood in the water to give the pup its space.
On another occasion when King Penguins came ashore close to the Zodiacs, the guides did the same, keeping us away from their trail and giving them as much space as possible.
I had the most incredible cruise and came on here to say that I found that the Excursion staff, the Hotel staff and the ships crew worked together to give us as many landings and good excursions as possible, and they achieved this.
The respect shown by the guides to Biosecurity and to the environment and animals, often under challenging conditions, was exceptional in my view.
I am now on the ensuing cruise to Antarctica because my experience of the former one was so brilliant, and I'm happy to say that the standards are equally high and I am having the best time!

My sister and I embarked on a trip to the Falklands and South Georgia which we thought would be the trip of a lifetime. I am happy to report it was even better than that. It was magical!
Due to unforeseen circumstances, i.e. weather in the Falklands, our airline flight was canceled, causing us to spend an extra day in Santiago, Chile. But the next day it was a go. We landed and boarded the ship and were treated with such hospitality. We were called to the Oceanus lounge for a briefing from Captain Boris and Chris the expedition leader. There seemed to be an issue with weather once again, and we would not be sailing that first night. I tend fret about the unknown with weather and sailing. The Captain explained in incredible detail about the weather ahead, and how he did not think it was safe to leave that evening. He backed up his findings with navigational charts which he explained again in detail.
For me, the information provided by the Captain allowed me to relax in that we were sailing with a responsible company, and that Captain would procede with caution and not take unnecessary risks.

This was true with the expedition team, who were fantastic. Chris, the expedition leader was informative, engaging, and was clear about our behavior once we were near wildlife. Again it was explained to us before we disembarked at the Falklands and St. Georgia that we needed to sanitize or disinfect our outer clothing, boots, camera bags, etc. the expedition team set up a series of stations to take care of that. Our pockets, backpacks,and camera bags were vacuumed, and any Velcro on our clothing was inspected and foreign matter removed . Boot treads were cleaned and then disinfected.
Precautions continued in the form of how we were to conduct ourselves on land. No kneeling, no squatting, no bending over, nothing that would allow our clothing to touch the ground. We were to stay certain distances away from the wildlife, penguins and elephant seals, and also if they were walking towards us, that we should slowly back away.🦭 🐧 . I’m a rule-follower… if an expedition leader says to do something then I do it. It was unfortunate that there were some that ignored Chris’s repeated admonitions. The lack of respect for the rules frustrated me and caused me to tell some folks to back away from the animals, that they were too close.
The expedition team was stellar especially when it came to coordinating zodiacs being loaded and unloaded at the shore and at the marina. They did preliminary scoutings as to where we could land safely and judged the water conditions.
Again, they were very clear as to the steps we should take going into the zodiac and going out, and only go when they told us, as they were gauging the swells.
Once again, I felt safe and we that we were in good hands. Thank you, Chris and your team.
The hotel staff was terrific. Most of them knew our names by the second or third day. The whole atmosphere was warm and friendly. I particularly marvel at their ability to change the times of our dining in coordination with the expeditions that came up.

Then there was Jeffrey our cabin steward. He always seemed to be close by when we would arrive at our door with arms full of camera equipment. Thank you, Jeffrey.
To summarize, I felt safe and well looked after, and part of a bigger family. Everyone to a person was friendly no matter what their job was.
I particularly like that the ship honored the migrating birds by following dark sky protocols from the ship that might confuse the birds.
I’m ready for the next adventure, Poseidon, thank you.

Our October 2024 trip to South Georgia Island onboard the M/V Sea Spirit exceeded my expectations. I really don't have words to adequately describe how wonderful it was.
The Expedition Team, Captain and his officers, and the Hotel staff were 100% focused on providing us the best experience possible. When the weather and seas didn't cooperate with their plans, they adapted quickly. The restaurant staff also regularly modified dining times to accommodate changes to our landing schedules.
When we were forced by weather to delay our departure from the Falkland Islands, Chris and the Expedition Team were able to regroup and provide us with local bus and jeep expeditions to visit the Gentoo and Rockhopper colonies, nature walks, tours of Stanley, etc.
Our landings were varied and spectacular. The team laid out pathway guidelines to maximize viewing of the wildlife and keep us safe. Their physical dedication to ensure the Zodiac loading and unloading were as easy as possible was impressive. Several of the team were regularly waist-deep in the icy water, helping to hold the Zodiac in place on-shore while we disembarked.
We were instructed at all times to keep a 5m distance from the wildlife and avoid kneeling or crouching. The wildlife, of course, were unaware of this rule and would sometimes encroach on the tarps and our positions. It was unfortunate that several of the passengers repeatedly ignored these rules in order to get close-up photos. When they were reminded of the rules, by passengers or the Expedition Team members, they chose to argue and then continue to blatantly ignore the reminders. The Expedition Team dealt with these situations in a professional manner.
Our Cabin steward, Jeffrey, was the best. Our cabin was kept spotless and neat (at least the parts Jeffrey was responsible for!), and he was always a friendly and welcoming face when we returned to our cabin.
The Restaurant and Reception staff were invariably helpful and concerned that our experience was the best possible.

I look forward to booking another cruise with Poseidon at my earliest opportunity!
