Nun waren wir bereits das 4. Mal an Bord der SEA SPIRIT und wie immer: Perfekte Organisation, von Agnes und dem Hamburger Team was sich an Bord durch Anja und Aaron in bekannter Weise fortsetzte.

Die uns bereits seit der ersten Cruise bekannte Crew, die sich durch Kompetenz und Herzlichkeit auszeichnet , nach der Coronazeit gesund an Bord wiederzusehen, war erleichternd und versprach erneut eine rundum perfekte Reise zu werden ...
und wurde auch noch übertroffen, Danke.

Die Expedition rund um die Britischen Inseln und
Irland waren gefüllt mit täglichen Highlights, in perfekter Organisation vorbereitet.

Eine ausführliche , detaillierte Reisebeschreibung haben unsere Mitreisenden bereits lückenlos und perfekt eingestellt und bedarf keiner Ergänzung sondern kann nur in vollem Umfang bestätigt werden.

Nun waren endlich nach Corona die Britische Inseln vom 08. - 20.05.2022 unser Ziel, Perfekt -wie immer- vorbereitet durch Team Hamburg mit Agnes, Elena und Christian, nahtlos übergehend durch die uns bekannte, gesamte liebenswerte Crew an Bord , die uns auch auf der 4. Reise das Gefühl vermittelt, wieder in der Sea Spirit Familie angekommen zu sein

This review is intended to be of Poseidon and Sea Spirit, not of the specific trip we took (which went quite well - saw several happy, healthy polar bears!).

Booking and planning: fairly straightforward. The trip was fairly accurately advertised, and there were no hidden "gotchas" in fees, T&C's, etc. Only suggestion would be to disclose the possibility of early dis-embarkation (to catch early flights) at the time of booking, not right before departure.

Sea Spirit: A much more comfortable ship than our prior experience on "adventure" ships. SS is between those and what I imagine a cruise ship would be. Well-maintained and kept clean. The cabin was comfortably furnished and we had no complaints. The Oceanus lounge was a bit too full of furniture and was hard to move around in.

Staff: In a word, superb. Our cabin steward attended to the room several times each day, the wait staff in the restaurant and lounge were great, the food was of very high quality and well-presented, but a bit bland. The public areas were kept spotless, and everyone was helpful.

Expedition team: Again, superb. All were knowledgeable (in different areas) and went "above and beyond" to make the trip fun. Some were more subdued, and others were infectiously enthusiastic about what they were doing and were a delight to be around.

Personally, we travel mostly for the destination and views (especially of wildlife) and less for the travel experience. We're satisfied with sleeping bags and camp toilets if the scenery and wildlife viewing are fantastic. Other people want a luxurious travel experience, and the destination is secondary. Poseidon and Sea Spirit are trying to strike a balance between the two, and some compromises must be made.

Trip to arctic was awesome and exceede our expectations. Great crew and food. Saw 5 polar bears and was prepared not to see any since this can be hit and miss. Highly recommend

This was our 2nd time traveling with Poseidon and we love the ship and the expedition team and crew. The small size allows for maximum flexibility. Great food, lots of activities and friendly, knowledgeable crew and expedition team. The cabins are bigger than standard cruise ship rooms, with lots of drawers and storage.

Our trip to Svalbard and the Arctic was surreal. There have been few trips in my life where I have been in awe so often. The views and sheer scale of the scenery was breathtaking- I think Svalbard should be on everybody’s bucket list. Don’t wait for retirement- do it now!!

The expedition team on Sea Spirit was professional, friendly and very well organised. Their shared knowledge was phenomenal and they generously shared their experiences, thoughts and knowledge.

The bar and restaurant staff were polite and helpful and very much on the ball. The food was to a high standard with lots of variety. Drinks for a cruise were actually pretty reasonable.

The ship was nicely appointed and the room spacious. Lots of outside space to view wildlife and the scenery. The bar and hot tub were great spots after a long day of excursions.

Highlights for me:
- Lillihookbreen glacier
- Seeing Walrus in Smeerenberg
- Of course our polar bear sighting (although very far away)
- Hiking Liefdefjorden and sliding down the snow to Texas bar
- polar plunge (a once in a life time opportunity!)
- seeing a blue whale while in the hot tub

As with any adventure there are frustrations and inconveniences, especially when there are so many moving parts, but this did not distract from the overall experience and I don’t believe any company would be immune to this especially given the COVID situation.

This was my second experience with Poseidon Expeditions and I enjoyed every moment of my Arctic adventure.

Amazing Artic Expedition in Svalbard, Norway. I am a seasoned traveler but had never done this type of expedition. Although I didn't get to experience and up close and personal polar bear sighting I dreamed of, I did get to see 4 polar bears from a distance. The scenery was breathtaking. The ship staff and the expedition staff were top notch. I loved the trip so much, I am making arrangements to travel to Antarctica with them.

The expedition itinerary was well planned to view various history areas, magnificent scenery, & native animals. The guides were enthusiastic & well informed to teach us about Svalbard! And the staff did their respective jobs so well in order that we could enjoy our time on the Sea Spirit! Our accommodations were very roomy with lots of storage space & areas to move around without feeling crowded! I would highly recommend this expedition to anyone, because it is a remote area & not many people know about it or have ever visited the area!

This was an excellent trip. It was well planned the staff was helpful from the expedition crew to the housekeeping staff. The food was fine but not exceptional. Our weather was beautiful and we had a wonderful experience. But definitely recommend it

The ship was very comfortable, the food excellent, the staff excellent and professional, the itinerary interesting.
The pre departure information said that the pre cruise hotel would be the Funken Lodge. I reserved two pre cruise nights at the Funken L. and was told to move to the Radisson Blu after those 2 nights. That was very inconvenient. Furthermore, we stayed on the 3rd floor in the second building at the Radisson B. which does not have an elevator. Needless to say, it was difficult to bring our luggage up to the 3rd floor.
We had to wait for our transfers pre and post cruise at the Radisson B. which does NOT have the space or enough seats to accommodate both the departing group as well as the arriving group. You need to find a better waiting place.
We were dropped at the airport at the end of the cruise with no help about check in. It would have helped just to let us know that if you want to check in yourself at a machine, you need to first get a luggage tag from the tag machine. No one knew what to do and the Poseidon E. guide did not know either. Poseidon E. has been running this itinerary for years at this same airport; Poseidon E. guides should know the procedures at the airport by now!!!

Our trip to Svalbard in June 2022 was one of the greatest journeys so far. The guides and the crew are outstanding, and the time went by so fast. I can only recommend Poseidon Expeditions for this journeys and i have Never experiencend a more professional travel company!

Zum Jahreswechsel 2019/2020 waren wir mit der „Sea Spirit“ in der Antarktis, dort gibt es Pinguine, aber keine Eisbären. Im Juni 2022, zu Beginn der Reisezeit in die Arktis, als es wieder möglich war zu reisen, wählten wir „Das Beste von Spitzbergen“, denn es kam für uns kein anderes Schiff als die „Sea Spirit“ und keine anders organisierte Expedition als die von Poseidon Expeditions in Frage. Wir wussten also schon, dass die Organisation funktioniert. Und wir waren gespannt auf Altbekanntes und Neues: Tierbeobachtungen, Landausflüge, Zodiac-Fahrten, die Expeditions-Crew, von der uns nur der Historiker Sergei bekannt war, und selbstverständlich auch auf das Bordleben - wegen der begrenzten Anzahl von Gästen und wegen deren Internationalität.
Das Expeditionsteam ist sehr zu loben, da selbst einige Ausfälle wegen Corona keine Einschränkungen in den Aktivitäten mit sich brachte. Lediglich Ida musste Ryan als Leiter ersetzen, und so fiel danach das Kajakfahren aus. Die Spezialisten auf unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie Ornithologie, Meeresbiologie, Geschichte u.a. gaben ihr umfangreiches Wissen bereitwillig weiter, z.B. lernten wir die verschiedenen Arten des Eises kennen. Man fühlte sich gut aufgehoben bei den Zodiac-Ausfahrten, wo jeweils das Gelände durch Guides mit Gewehren und Pistolen gesichert wurde. Und selbstverständlich war man auch gut eingepackt in den praktischen Geschenk-Parkas und den zur Verfügung gestellten Gummistiefeln.
An Land konnte man z.B. Minenreste, Walfänger-Utensilien und Fallensteller-Hütten besichtigen. Und Ny Alesund mit dem nördlichsten Postamt und weiteren nördlichsten Superlativen war ein besonderes Erlebnis.
Die gesamte Mannschaft machte Sonderschichten, um uns die Einschränkungen durch Corona nicht spüren zu lassen, war dabei kompetent, hilfsbereit und stets freundlich.
Und die Tiere zeigten sich: diverse Seevögel bis hin zu Papageientauchern, die spezielle Rentierart von Svalbard, Walrosse im Wasser und am Strand in einem „Haufen“ von über 30 männlichen Tieren, sogar einige Minke Whales. Das Highlight aber waren mehrere Eisbären an einem Tag, der erste entdeckt von Bettina in 2 Meilen Entfernung. Zunächst stieg einer aus dem Wasser, wälzte sich und stöberte gemächlich am Strand entlang bis er schließlich einen Hang hinauf verschwand. Später konnten wir eine Eisbärenmama mit Jungem beobachten, die sich an einer Robbe solange gütlich taten, bis sie weiterzogen, weil sich vermutlich ein männliches Tier näherte. Und zuletzt konnten wir noch einen weiteren Eisbären beim Vogelfangen beobachten.
Als Wiederholer von Poseidon Expeditions hatten wir eine Getränkepauschale inbegriffen, was angenehm war, da diesmal die Tischordnung beibehalten wurde und somit längere Gespräche im Austausch mit anderen Reiselustigen nicht trocken verliefen.
Etwas bedauerlich war, dass man wegen Corona nicht auf die Brücke zu Kapitän Oleg durfte, der uns aber gewohnt sicher in die Buchten und entlang der Eiskante fuhr. Der Anblick des Meereises bei blauem Himmel und Sonne war überwältigend. Die Beteiligung am Polar-Plansch war gering, brachte aber eine weitere Abwechslung.
Fazit: Antarktis und Arktis sind faszinierend. Wir bekamen „Das Beste von Spitzbergen“. Mal sehen, wozu uns Poseidon und die „Sea Spirit“ noch verlocken.

Nach der Antarktis waren wir mit der Sea Spirit in der Arktis - und ich kann nicht sagen, was mir besser gefallen hat. Eisbären statt Pinguinen, das ist wohl Geschmackssache. Dass wir aber wieder ein total engagiertes, begeisterungsfähiges Poseidon-Team an Bord hatten, das sich einfach alle Beine ausgerissen hat, um uns Gäste zufriedenzustellen, das hat unsere Erwartungen bezüglich einer weiteren Reise in ungeahnte Höhen geschraubt. Aber eigentlich kann es kaum besser werden: 5 Eisbären an einem Tag, Walrösser, Rentiere, einen Polarfuchs - einfach gigantisch. Und das Ganze auf einem recht kleinen und übersichtlichen, gemütlichen, komfortablen Schiff mit tollen Mitarbeitern vom Restaurantservice über die Schiffscrew bis zum Expeditionsteam und dem Kapitän!

My first cruise and a wonderful experience from start to finish. Highlights included my first polar bear in the wild, close up walrus encounters, clouds of little auks and arctic terns and the stunning scenery of Svalbard and the rarely visited Jan Mayen.

The crew, hotel team and expedition team worked hard to ensure that quality and well organised service happened 24/7. The food was varied and served with a smile; safety was paramount on our shore expeditions and the accommodation was spacious, well-appointed and meticulously supervised by my steward. The varied lectures were interesting and aimed at a general audience - nothing too hard to grasp. The only thing I missed was the opportunity to use the deck jacuzzi, due to ongoing covid restrictions on the ship, on the sunny days of our trip.

As a solo traveller I would definitely recommend the small ship experience and am saving for my next trip with Poseidon!

This was our second expedition cruise with Poseidon. Everything was delivered to an excellent standard with top class Expedition Team, restaurant staff and cabin staff. We couldn't fault any aspect of our cruise.

The Trip was excellent: the team and the crew were always very friendly and helpful and we learnt à lot about the animals and nature. The meals were very good as well as the service. The whole organisation was perfect . Many thanks for this unforgetable journey!
