The ultimate low-quality, outsourced readers market

Their business model is 1) sell cheap, Chinese-made readers at what looks like a discount, but you're actually paying a premium compared to what you are getting, 2) obfuscate the shipping process and outsource the support to slow chat and even slower phone support from the Philippines, and 3) take 7 to 10 business days to ship and then charge you for shipping for most orders unless you reach a payment threshold. I called to complain, and it took them about 4 seconds to cancel my order (which is what they likely expect given their outsourced, drop-shipping, iffy quality product). Just spend a bit more money and go to Amazon. You'll have your readers tomorrow.

Consistently poor quality lenses

Consistently poor quality lenses. All three pairs I ordered were worthless and ended up in the garbage. They did refund my money, but wasted my time. This isn't the first time I received glasses with poor lenses from Readers.com, but it will be the last time.

I've ordered from Readers.com for…

I've ordered from Readers.com for several years. And there is one thing in common. The nose pieces fall off, usually on the left side after a month or two. I placed an order on December 28th and finally had to call and complain on January 29th. The customer service representative was unfriendly and didn't apologize for the ridiculous delay. Don't waste your money or your time. Go to COSTCO or wherever and walk out with your purchase. On a scale of 1-10 I would give them a -1.

Do not order from this company

I have ordered from them in the past with no issue. This time I had difficulty ordering online using their promo code so I called and placed the order. Then I called weeks later to find out they cancelled the order for no reason. Order placed again after 30 minutes of being on the phone. Then I received an email stating the order was cancelled. I called back and had to reorder again and was promised I would receive it before Christmas. Called December 23rd since I had not received the order and they said the office would be closed until December 29th. Checked the status and it's still on the unfulfilled. What a terrible experience. Do not recommend or ordering from this company.

Not as cheap as promised, except in quality and service

First frustrated that initial quoted low price turned out to be glasses without lenses. After required options added price doubled (even before additional optional add-ons). Then received incorrect prescription lens. Customer service (in Manila) said they would make an exception(?!?) and send replacement, but I would have to pay S&H. Bottom line for EyeBuyDirect.com AKA/DBA Readers.com: Their glasses aren't as cheap as promised, but cheap enough to throw away rather than pay for replacement.

Glasses

the glasses themselves are good, the packaging is awful! the glasses should each come in a protective case, the sides are bent( my second order now). really need to make it Happen in order to get consistent positive reviews!

I've bought glasses here

I've bought glasses here, and liked them. Then I bought more. The problem is they are super flimsy and break easily.

It's almost like they have an expiration date, and break where the arm meets the frame.

Happened again on a pair of glasses last night that I bought about 5 months ago. All I did was pick them up off of the night stand.

2 pairs of glasses broke in the same spot

I bought glasses from Readers.com in April 2024, and in 8-months, the arm of the glasses broke off while I was wearing them. I thought I might have gotten them caught on something that resulted in the break so I reordered the same glasses. In 3-months, the glasses broke in the same spot as the previous pair.

I reached out to customer service and never heard back.

Fashionable but low quality

I have purchased a lot of glasses from Readers.com over the years -- I just purchased 10 pairs -- but I know what I'm getting. I like them because they're fashionable and I can wear the frames that best suit my mood on any particular day. And they come at a reasonable price. But I know that the frames will get loosey goosey -- sometimes after only a month or two. If I found the kind of frames I liked elsewhere at reasonable prices, I'd make the switch in a heartbeat.

Overpriced Junk

I have ordered several pairs of their glasses over 6 years or so. None have lasted for more than 2 weeks before the frame cracked or a temple broke off of the hinge. They begrudgingly replaced some, only to have them break again. The dollar store readers last for an eternity, and I've also had good luck with ebay, both at a fraction of the cost.

This site gets 5+ stars! My glasses are of amazing quality and better than described. I ordered the wrong kind of sunglasses-called in and spoke to an agent. Had a credit issued and the new pair on the way in 10 minutes! Shipping is 7-10 days and I received mine in 5. The best part…they could not accept a return and suggested I take them to the nearest nursing home home and donate them!! They have earned a customer for life!

Their frames are junk.

Their lenses are decent.. their frames have defects and break in the same place every time shortly after their Mickey Mouse 90 day warranty runs out. And don’t expect them to help you after that..

Let me start with the positive…

Let me start with the positive experience: price is low and these tend to come fairly quickly. I bought a number of pairs of glasses so that I could have them in various places such as home, car, office. But, as the old saying goes "you pay for what you get and you get what you pay for" The glasses from readers.com are not really the ones that will likely last for years - unless you keep then on a shelf and not use them. I use mine a lot and they do not last. The screws tend to pop out requiring frequent tightening and the plastic is fragile and once that goes, good bye. My most recent mis-adventure was with a pair I got to wear only for about a week before the plastic quit on me. I have since bought a pair at a local pharmacy and the difference can be felt just by holding the glasses in your hands. Overall, if you are buying in bulk and don't mind a short tenure, go ahead and buy from these guys. But if you are looking for glasses that would last, keep looking...elsewhere

I have previously been quite happy with nearly all the many pairs of reading glasses I’ve ordered from readers.com the last several years. I’ve had a couple break, but they weren’t terribly expensive so I didn’t pursue the matter. Fortunately, then, I haven’t encountered the pitiful customer service that so many other reviewers have mentioned - until now. Recently, the company apparently decided to remove from their website all customer reviews for each style of glasses. A forward-thinking corporate entity would understand the importance of transparency and honest reviews in an online marketplace. Most online retailers from department stores to craft shops to Amazon provide such a helpful service to consumers. I choose not to do business with companies who aren’t transparent, thinking perhaps there might be product problems they don’t want to have displayed to other potential customers. Imagine my surprise when the readers.com product reviews, which had helped me choose various frames, suddenly disappeared from their website. Therefore, I emailed the company, waited 2 days, and then received the canned, form response that “we’re forwarding your concerns, blah, blah, blah” and “we value out of the box thinking.” What in the world?? Reviews do help consumers make wise selections and might actually help readers.com get and retain customers in most cases. My displeasure wasn’t addressed at all. I’m disappointed with the kind of business that readers.com has seemingly become. Oh, try Foster Grant online instead. Great sales and some of the same glasses available at readers.com!

Poor fulfillment experience and bad customer service

I ordered two pairs of sunglass readers. Received several emails about the product shipping, showing both pairs. When I received the package, there was only one pair enclosed. I waited a few days and then called customer service to ask if the other pair was shipping separately, even though that was not indicated in any of my emails.

After much research, the agent came back and said that when I had placed my order, one of the items was out of stock! No email telling me that, nor that I would only receive one pair, nor that I would be getting a refund for the non-received item. The agent did process a refund for the out of stock item.

I then asked if they would have ever refunded me for the non-received pair, or contacted me in any way if I had not called. I said it seems a bad business practice to not inform someone of an item being out of stock at the time of order/shipment. They should have either emailed me immediately to let me choose something else, or refunded me immediately for the out of stock item. The agent’s response “I will end this chat now. Have a nice day”!

They won’t be having my business again.

Poor Product and Service

The product I ordered (The Redbluff) are the worst glasses I've ever purchased. Plastic hinges and out of focus lenses with terrible peripheral distortion. I've bought better glasses at a dollar store.
The second pair (The Damon) are reasonably useful with good lense focus, but also have plastic hinges. Longevity is questionable.
Both were purchased at a reduced price, but I have some M readers from Wallymart that are similar in price and are much better quality with metal spring hinges.
The website is also substandard. I also got stuck in a weird loop when trying to chat. The review I tried to leave just isn't accepted at all.
This is a poor vendor. Don't bother with them.

Horrible customer service

I went to the contact page to send an email and ask a question. Unfortunately, I got stuck in some kind of repeat message loop. They weren't available after 5:00 Eastern Monday through Friday and close completely on Saturday and Sunday. Of course the weekends were really the only days that I had available. I finally had time off on a Monday and I have to place the email to contact somebody and I keep getting the same message looped over and over and over nobody's available and blah blah blah so I am not even able to look at the website. I've tried closing it out. I've come at it from different places and still it will change and flash this message. I am caught in their contact us email horror nightmare
