Reading Horizons Avis 58

I have been an EL instructor for over 5 years for grades K-7. Since using the Reading Horizon program and methods, we have seen a marked improvement in the reading domains for our students. The dictation portion of the program has been an integral part which I feel has increased our English Language Proficiency Assessments and students exiting from our EL program. I work with our kindergarten students on worksheet portions of the lesson, to better guide them with their letter formation and pronunciation of the letters. The quizzes and chapter assessments are a wonderful tool when determining the actual retention of material. I would recommend this product to any teacher to use in their classroom, but especially TESOL teachers!

Being a virtual teacher this year, this program has been very, very helpful to both me and my students. Everything is online. My students are able to access and work on Reading Horizons from tablets, Chromebooks, or computers, so the program works well with a variety of devices. As a teacher, I can quickly log in to see exactly where my students are and what progress is being made. I use the Course Progression weekly, sometimes even daily. I can also see the last time students logged in, so it is helpful to me to be able to share my screen and say, "Look! You have not logged in to Reading Horizons for 3 days," or "Wow! Look how hard you are working!" Reading Horizons is set up where students can work at their own pace. I have some on Chapter 3, but I also have some on Chapter 1. I am very thankful for this online program during this time of virtual school when I cannot have face to face small groups as I am accustomed to.

Reading Horizons helps me to monitor my students reading fluency for the skills taught that week. I'm able to create groups for specific skills and monitor their progress. I can create reports to see my class progress, group progress, or individual progress. Its kid friendly and great for tier groups. I love using it.

Our district has been using Reading Horizons for about 4 months now. I am amazed at the progress I am seeing with my second graders. One of my students would always tell me "I can't read." Then, after using RHD for about a month, he looked at me and said, "I can read now Mrs. Head!" The way the program combines letters and vowels into slides, opens doors to understanding for students who struggle with the traditional beginning, middle, and end sound strategy. The online portion of the program is also extremely beneficial in providing practice and games for concepts we are learning in class. This is an excellent program, and I am so excited that my district has chosen it.

Reading Horizons Elevate has been a game-changer for our school. The training was some of the best training I have ever received which is needed when it comes to teaching reading to students. The program is very systematic and when followed correctly, students see much success. Students also enjoy the marking of words. We had a 4th grader reading at a kindergarten level. Using the elevate program systematically and consistently, he was reading at a 3rd-grade level when he finished the program and moved into middle school. I can't say enough about this program. Not only can it be all done in person but it also has a great online piece which is very valuable especially in this day of age. The online resource for teachers is valuable and helpful. This program is a need for any school that wants all students having reading success.

I could not be more grateful for the Horizons team! I am a literacy coach and we are implementing The Horizons program K-5 whole school. This is our first year moving from intervention to whole school with the program because we have seen such progress in our intervention groups. Reading Horizons has been very beneficial for the students I work with. I work at a juvenile facility and many of our students have not attended school regularly and come to us with very low reading abilities. They have little hope and don't believe that they can learn to read. Most of them think it is too late to even try. However, once enrolled in the program, these young men literally take off in their reading. They enjoy reading and within a very short time, their ability to read independently increases, as does their grade. In addition, we see how much improvement and significant gains they made at their discharge assessment. We are seeing tremendous growth in our reading scores. Thank you!! I am so grateful for Reading Horizons for my students. Not only can it be used for Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction, but it can be implemented beautifully for Tier 1 instruction. My students' reading scores have jumped at all levels. I love how easy and simple it is to implement. Professionally, I have learned so much about reading and decoding. I am a much better reading teacher now that I use Reading Horizons. I wish I had this when I started teaching 25 years ago!

I am a special education teacher. I really enjoy Reading Horizons. I like how the lessons dive into the phonic skill that is being practiced. I also like how the lesson give enough practice but do not go on and on. I am grateful for the online resources because they let my kids be able to go at their own pace and practice the skills they need to be successful.

This is my third year using Reading Horizons, my second year teaching 1st graders. I must say that this program and all of the organized lessons to teach children phonics including sounds of letters, letter formation, blends, digraphs and all the rest are really empowering to the students. The methods, using review, instruction, dictation and transfer are powerful. I have witnessed first hand the difference it makes from the beginning to the end of the year in how the students learn to write a complete sentence with the words spelled correctly. I love the program and all the materials, books, transfer cards, games and activities provided.

Using Reading Horizons has not only made teaching phonics easier, it also makes it FUN! I have taught first grade for 19 years. This is my 3rd year of teaching phonics using Reading Horizons. I wouldn't want to teach phonics again without this program. I know more about phonics since using Reading Horizons than I ever did before.
The Reading Horizons staff is kind and always willing to help with questions and training experiences that make it easy to implement into your daily routine.
The online resources and game supplement are incredible! My students are engaged every day. They can explain when to use c vs. k, ss, ff, and zz, etc. When a child can explain the "why", then they become confident readers. That is powerful!

The Reading Horizons program is the best!!! I have been using the RH program for years, and I have not found any other phonics program out there that is better. When I went to my first training on RH, I learned rules about the English language that I never knew before! I enjoy teaching the RH program because it is direct instruction that can be given to multiple types of learners. My students stay engaged, and love to play the games too!!

I have been using Reading Horizons for the past 3 years and LOVE it! The way it is designed, it helps me fill gaps in student learning. This is especially powerful as students move in and out. I have the resources to turn to when a student is lacking in a skill. I am able to teach this whole group and small group to fill gaps.

I absolutely love reading horizons! Not only is it helping the kids in my classroom but I also have a deeper understanding of sounds in words. Reading makes sense now. I see it helping all of my students who are at different levels in reading. They love it too!

Reading Horizons is a fantastic resource to use when teaching how to read and write. The rules and strategies they use for this program are not hard to understand and use plus it is a great way for the students to not only practice reading and writing but also to see why words make the sounds that they make. It breaks up topics in an easy to teach way and there are quite a few trainings available to help teachers understand how to be utilize Reading Horizons in the classroom as well.

Reading Horizons is a phonic program we use schoolwide. The lessons are easy to use and engaging for the students. The phonics rules make sense to the students and is the reason most of our students are readers.

The scope and sequence of the Reading Horizon lessons helps get kids into connected text as soon as possible. The lesson format stays the same so you know exactly what to do every day. But at the same time, there are so many games and activities you can use in the sequence, that it is never boring.

The online resources are top-notch. I used the training videos to help train my teachers in using the program. The company is very responsive to need. They even sponsor after school trainings and they provided dinner for our teachers. It was a party of phonics games!

This is an AMAZING way to teach phonics. Teachers at my school love using it Tier 1. The process Reading Horizons uses is easy to follow and it works. Teachers can easily follow the curriculum. The online resources Reading Horizons provides are very helpful and just plain AWESOME. We are using the Reading Horizons software this year and are loving it so far. Using RH K-3 also allows us to be consistent across grade levels in the way we are teaching phonics. We are using the elevate software for older grades but as more of a type of intervention. I really support using this program!

As a new teacher I struggled to teach phonics in a way that made sense to my students. I found myself often explaining a concept with "that's the way English works". Reading Horizons taught me how to teach phonics to my students in a meaningful way. My students are able to understand the why behind spelling. My students have grown so much since I've started using the program in my classroom.
