Piss poor experience

We had reservations (Reservation 0811896241-1 for RIVERSIDE AT DETROIT (Willamette National Forest, OR) during the week of July 13th for two spots. On the way up there from California, we noticed the major fire that was smoking out the camp site. I called Recreation.gov and asked to change our reservation to another participating campground. Josh would not do that. He did charge us for the new campground (we were already 10 hours away from home) and offered to request a refund. The refund was denied. Here is what they said. "We received your refund request for Reservation 0811896241-1 for RIVERSIDE AT DETROIT (Willamette National Forest, OR). Your refund request has been reviewed by local staff, and they have determined this request does not qualify for a refund. One of the most common reasons refund requests are declined is compliance with change and cancellation policies. The "Rules and Reservation Policies" for transactions and reservation changes, cancellations, and refunds can be found on Recreation.gov for your review, and a link to these policies was included in the confirmation email for RIVERSIDE AT DETROIT (Willamette National Forest, OR).

So being on fire and smoked out is not a valid reason. I would never use them again and highly recommend not using.
What we did discover is that even when recreation. gov says the campgrounds are full, there were spots available at every other place we looked at. Eel Creek said it was full, but when we got there, we were one of 6 taken spots for the four days. Recreation. gov is not a good resource. AVOID

We camped at prairie lakes, Arkansas outside Rodger’s, Arkansas

We camped at , prairie lakes, Arkansas, site 66. VERY unlevel asphalt pad, it took all the leveling wood that I bought with us to get our rv trailer almost level. We ended up finding some flat rocks to put at the bottom of our stairs so we could get in and out of our trailer. VERY precarious, we are both over 70+ years old! We had never been at this campground before, so we couldn’t pick a better site ahead of time.
We have camped a multiple campgrounds with, recreation.gov over the years and this was, by far the worst!
The government must use low bid, no skill contractors to build there facilities, most bathrooms especially at this campground, the bathroom shower drains are at the highest spot on the floor, so the floors are almost always soaked wet.
Such a shame, our government should have much higher standards!!

Terrible

The website displays out of date information. Tickets for Logan Pass shuttle show available, yet they are not. I have never had a good experience with recreation.gov going back for years.

They don't make it clear that a ticket…

They don't make it clear that a ticket is per vehicle not per person.

Even though it's their fault and they don't make it clear, they don't offer a refund, not even a partial refund.

Their support is bad and they will just send you templates, no individual answers.

Just buy from the parks directly, not from the site. If you have any issues, it will be easier to solve them then with this site.

The Art of the Scam

Rec.gov does not in my opinion provide accurate information with respect to the "Alert" system whereby they send you "Release" availability options. Then, very single time you attempt to obtain this pass-you NEVER get to actually obtain the ticket. To me, it's just a scam. They send you dozens of emails a day knowing you have ZERO chance of getting that ticket.

They canceled then let someone else reserve

Booked a popular cabin months in advance and 2 weeks prior to reservation they cancelled me due to "closure" and cancelled my upcoming reservation, just looked on the site and now my dates are reserved by someone else for the same time period. Called customer service and yes it definitely was back open and reserved with someone else during my original dates. They should have at least given me the option to re-reserve once it re opened before my reserved dates.. Now I'm stuck trying to to find a place last minute..beware
