Waste of time

Waste of time, avoid, they can't insure non-uk resident landlords or any investor. A false advertisement of their insurances, avoid!

To clarify, we can't insure non-uk resident and this is clearly stated on our website.

Before you submitted a quote there is a declaration where you have to agree to all the points before you can continue to the next step.

You agreed that:
You, the applicant are the legal owner of the property, residing in the UK permanently at the main residence address provided.

This declaration is there to ensure users don't waste their time submitting applications where we are unable to offer cover.

Dont waste your time

Dont waste your time asking this hopeless company for a holiday home quote. The reason they don't do quotes over the phone, instead requesting online applications only is because they pick and choose who they insure. I have a UK property built in 2010 on a new development 800 meters from the sea and this company have refused to insure. They just sent me an email saying they were not willing to insure me, giving no reason in the email as to why. My previous insurer was Sun Alliance, so the property is insurable. I suggest Mr Schofied in furture you give an explanation why you have refused insurance without the applicant having to contact you again to ask.

Insurers rely on various data sources to underwrite risks. As confirmed in our email the reasons for the insurer declining the application is due the flood risk and the car port/parking spaces under the premises.

Regrettably we cannot assist in this instance.

Very poor attitude from the company…

Very poor attitude from the company management when there is a problem to solve, a told you so reply doesn't help anyone. Their policies may seem cheap, but their customer service is poor. I have never had to claim - dread what it would be like if I had to. I've gone elsewhere.

When policies haven't been renewed and have expired, the Underwriters require a few simple questions to be answered. Once received, we can look at re-activating the policy.

WARNING – IF YOU HAVE HOLIDAY HOME INSURANCE WITH SCHOFIELDS YOU ARE PROBABLY NOT INSURED!!!!!!!
SCHOFIELDS SOLD US HOLIDAY HOME INSURANCE UNDER FALSE PRETENCES AND SHOULD BE EXPOSED FOR MIS-SELLING
In the patronising words of Schofield’s manager, “the clue is in the title”!
We have had 2 separate policies for our self-catering guest accommodation on our estate insured with a Schofields Holiday Home Policy for many years without a claim. Faced with a claim, Schofields are now arguing that their policies only cover guests staying “strictly for leisure purposes". This means for example that guests staying for the purpose of a family funeral would not be covered “as this does not constitute leisure purposes". Like many holiday home owners, we accept bookings from airbnb and booking.com, and guests stay for a variety of reasons not known to us when the reservation is made, including business trips, childcare, professional sports players, actors, attending weddings, visiting sick relatives, attending interviews or conferences, visiting children at university, locum medical work. SO NONE OF THESE GUESTS ARE COVERED BY SCHOFIELD’S HOLIDAY HOME INSURANCE POLICIES EVEN THOUGH THERE APPEARS TO BE NO DISCLAIMER IN THEIR POLICY DOCUMENTS!!!
I have spoken to other insurers who provide this type of cover AND THEY WERE BEMUSED by SCHOFIELD'S comments.
SO, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SELF CATERING GUEST ACCOMMODATION INSURANCE BEST AVOID SCHOFIELDS AND IF YOU ARE ALREADY INSURED WITH THEM BEST START LOOKING ELSEWHERE!!!
I'VE REFERRED THEM TO THE FINANCIAL SERVICES OMBUDSMAN

outstanding help in my time of need

outstanding help in my time of need, friendly and helpful claims handlers went that extra mile in putting my claim together and then came back to me advising I was now entitled to an extra payment towards my covid claim.

I have another property insured with another insurer whom will not be paying anything toward covid losses what so ever.

Very responsive when submitting a…

Very responsive when submitting a request for a quote to the extent I have just taken out the insurance.
David was very helpful on the phone. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
I must admit, i hadn't read the negative reviews until after taking out the policy which are rather alarming.
That said, so far so good. Hopefully i won't have to make a claim.

I have been insured for several years with this company for my home abroad, always competitive and professional.

My holiday home in Spain has been…

My holiday home in Spain has been insured with Schofields for 15 years until it was recently sold.
Throughout I have experienced good service and have been able to get a response from a real person to any queries. I had no problems cancelling and getting a refund when the property was recently sold.
I bought insurance from them because their terms were realistic - for example, there was no requirement for regular inspection visits or requirements to attend the property at regular intervals- just common sense advice such as turning off water, draining tanks if necessary, locking up properly etc.
In short, I found the cover less full of "liability denial traps" than most and it seemed to me to remain good value for my peace of mind and the protection of everyone using the property.

Schofields have wriggled their way out…

Schofields have wriggled their way out of paying an insurance claim related to COVID. Disgusted with them. Such a farce to believe that you can trust an insurance company like this. They admit our claim is valid, but will not pay it due to government aid received. NO WAY did the Chancellor intend that the emergency payments to businesses should mean that insurers were no longer liable. Schofields are absolute snakes.

I'm sorry there have been issues with your claim. To clarify, Schofields are not authorised to handle claims. The claims handlers who handle claims on behalf of the Insurer should now have been in contact as this has been reviewed.

Completely abandoned on a claim

Completely abandoned on a claim. No help whatsoever and refused my request for a call from a director.
Very happy to take your money for a policy but not willing to do anything when you need to claim.
I have had a policy with them for 10 years but that means nothing.
Avoid.

Waste of time

I submitted a proposal for cover on a holiday apartment in Spain which is jointly owned by a group of friends. We had no difficulty in insuring the property over the previous 30 years with a Spanish insurer and only sought alternative cover because our Spanish agent ceased trading. Schofields stated that underwriters did not wish to offer a quotation and when asked why in order to assist us with seeking cover elsewhere, they would not reply.
Don’t waste your time on them.

Lack of Courtesy

I sought a quote for insurance for our holiday cottages.
Having spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone, and anticipating that the next communication would be a quotation I was amazed to receive a message stating that we did not meet the criteria for insurance.
Then followed a list of criteria - all of which we meet.
So assumptions made without the courtesy of discussing the matter with me.
I responded to the message, but again Schofields failed to show me the courtesy of a response.
Clearly Schofields are making too much money if they treat potential customers in this was

There are lots of different factors that go into risk assessment and unfortunately, we can't quote for certain risks. We appreciate that it can be frustrating when this happens.

As the property is part of your main residence we are unable to assist. This is clearly stated at the start of the quote process.

I AGREE THAT THE PREMISES IS NOT...
any part of your main residence - such as: annex/attached/detached/in the grounds/on the same title deeds to the main dwelling.
