Sharesy's venue-hire concept is excellent in theory, but unfortunately, my experience did not match the promises made on its website.

The platform advertises the ability to instantly book venues for one-off or recurring events. However, based on my experience, this claim is misleading. The main issue lies in the booking process and the terms of service.

The website allowed me to select a venue and choose a date and time from a calendar showing available slots. I then paid the full hire fee upfront, believing I had successfully secured the venue. However, while making the payment, I was informed that the venue provider reserved the right to either accept or decline my booking request.

If a venue provider is unwilling to hire out their hall on dates displayed as available, it is unreasonable for Sharesy to require customers to pay the full booking cost in advance. At the very least, only a deposit should be taken until the booking is confirmed.

A venue is either available on a particular date and time or it is not. There is no middle ground. If a venue owner reserves the right to reject a booking after payment has been made, then the date should not be displayed as available. By showing availability, taking full payment upfront, and only then deciding whether to honour the booking, the platform creates an impression of certainty that simply does not exist. Customers should not be expected to pay hundreds of pounds merely for the privilege of having their booking request considered.

Sharesy should therefore require venue providers to fulfil bookings for dates they have advertised as available and impose meaningful consequences on those who reject or cancel reservations without good reason, such as a fire or flood. Providers who are unwilling to honour their advertised availability should not be permitted to continue using the platform.

Sadly, Sharesy is not comparable to services such as Booking.com, where a customer can reserve a hotel room with confidence that the room will actually be available. With Sharesy, there appears to be no such certainty.

Unfortunately, the very first time I used the platform, my booking request was declined without any explanation. Although a refund was issued promptly, it still takes several days for the money to return to a bank account. During that time, I lost valuable opportunities to secure an alternative venue. The funds I had allocated for the event were unavailable, while other suitable venues were being booked quickly during the busy summer season.

The website prominently highlights its coverage by the BBC and The Guardian. However, I would strongly encourage consumer watchdog organisations to examine the platform's terms and conditions, as they appear to favour venue providers at the expense of consumers. In my view, the booking process lacks the certainty and transparency that customers would reasonably expect when paying for venue hire in advance.

Great space, price and access. Plenty of tables, chairs and kitchen well equipped. Car park and out door areas have plenty of room. Rdally great hall to book out for any type of party. We had a bouncy castle and slide combo, 8 go karts and giant board games with enough room left to get through
