That’s over 250,000 young people and volunteers all celebrating, making it one of the biggest birthdays ever. 2026 is a big birthday year. In fact, it’s a triple birthday year!   The Origins of the Wolf Cubs and Cub Scouts Cubs began as ‘Wolf Cubs’ in 1916, after a successful pilot programme, and officially became ‘Cub Scouts’ in 1966. What started as a "training squad" in 1910 has grown into the Scouts' biggest section today.  The first 'Wolf Cubs Handbook’ was launched on 29 November 1916, and unlike ‘Scouting for Boys’, which was written for a youth audience, the Wolf Cub Handbook tried to appeal to boys, Cubs and the volunteers. The handbook was closely inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, suggesting games and activities inspired by the stories. Who are Cubs? Cub Scouts are young people aged 8 to 10½.   Useful Links The Origins of the Wolf Cubs - Scouts Cub Scouts - Cubs 110th Birthday Discover Cubs Birthday Ideas Cub Scouts - Cubs Being a Cub Scout
