Well well well, Shop4Ducks, a name that evokes quirky charm, whimsical gifts, and perhaps a lighthearted nod to countryside kitsch. What you actually get is a portal into a parallel universe where customer service goes to be cremated, joy has been outlawed, and the air is thick with the scent of chicken korma farts and despair.

The second I walked through the door, I was greeted (and I use that term loosely) by a creature so surly, so aggressively indifferent, I briefly wondered if I’d wandered into a government building by mistake. The woman looked like she’d been fused to the chair since the Blair government. She had the posture of a melted wax figure and the vibe of someone who only ever gets up to microwave Rustlers burgers at 3am while screaming at Cash in the Attic re-runs. Slouched behind the counter like Jabba the Hutt in an Argos clearance blazer sat Roz from Monsters Inc, if Roz had spent the last ten years chain-smoking Greggs sausage rolls and shouting at Jeremy Kyle recordings.

This woman didn’t look up, didn’t smile, didn’t even pretend to acknowledge that another human had entered the store. She simply exhaled loudly, shifted her bulk an inch to the left, and stared at me like I’d just asked her to solve climate change using only a birthday card and her remaining brain cell.

As I dared to ask for help, she stared straight through me like a pensioner with cataracts watching an exorcism. Her tone? all the charm and grace of a toll booth operator going through a messy divorce. She spoke to me as though I’d asked her to handwrite a eulogy for a hamster she never liked. There was more warmth coming from the fridge section of an Iceland on a power cut.

The look she gave me when I asked a simple question, you’d have thought I’d just wandered in off the Serengeti and asked her to prepare me a three-course meal using only tools from a Poundland kitchen set, speaking to me like I was an escaped orangutan that had wandered in hoping for a foot rub. I half expected David Attenborough to step out from behind the curtain and start narrating her behaviour in hushed tones.

I’ve met traffic wardens with more emotional range.

Even the shop itself felt like it had given up. Cards scattered like confetti at a divorce party, the air thick with passive aggression and the faint smell of something microwaved too long. It’s less of a shop, more of a holding pen for unresolved trauma and scented candles.

Avoid this place like it owes you money. Unless your idea of a fun afternoon is being sneered at by a sedentary cryptid with a passive-aggressive death wish, keep walking. You’ll find better service in a prison visitation room and the décor would likely be an upgrade.

The only thing this store ducks is customer expectations.

Placed order at 15:07 on a Friday and they couldn't be bothered to despatch until Monday just after one.
Then customer service was so dismissive, really poor customer care, avoid next day delivery unless you're happy to get stung.
