I felt confident purchasing my pieces of the British Guiana 1c. I bought this as an experiment to see how it goes. Based upon the investment performance and the handling of the transaction, I may purchase further items as an investment if the internal transactional costs are not too high. I am a collector, but also an investor, I am willing to take a risk, and I want a reasonable return on my investment.

As a long term philatelist ( approximately 70 years collecting in one form or another), the 1856 1 cent black on magenta has always been the ultimate icon of the world of stamps. During my collecting years, I’ve seen most of the world rarities at various national exhibitions. I’ve read again and again the fascinating stories behind these treasures, but being a realist, never imagined I would ever own any of them. Indeed, I had reconciled the desire to do so, by telling myself that to own any of these fantasy stamps would be an unbearable responsibility and burden. Storage and insurance against loss or damage would stop them being a pleasure and pride in my collection. Their liability would prevent them from being the desirable objects I imagined them to be.
Yet here you are offering a brilliant answer to the ‘ to own, or not to own’ question,….a shared ownership, and a chance to view the whole object which psychologically and in reality is, in part, in MY collection, even though that part is minuscule.
The day I visited Stanley Gibbons and Baldwins on the Strand, and was politely and entirely unaccompanied guided to be able to stand alone, in the presence of this tiny enigmatic fragment of a rather crude example of the printers art, was a culminating moment in my lifelong philatelic journey.
You made an old man, with a twinkle of the schoolboy still burning in his mind, very happy. My thanks.
