I recently attended a painting course with Siege Studios, and I highly recommend it! From start to finish, the experience was exceptional.
Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned painter looking to refine your skills, Siege Studios has a unique talent for breaking down complex techniques into clear, actionable steps. I got detailed, individualised feedback and Simon was always happy to answer questions or demostrate techniques again until everything clicked.
I’ve seen a noticeable improvement in my confidence and the quality of my painting. The course environment was welcoming and inspiring, blending technical learning with creative encouragement.

painting master class Stockport
Attended the painting master class in Stockport. Simon was fantastic, never boring or monotone when going through the processes and gave constructive feedback and help. It would have been awesome to have some kind of streaming/camera setup so we could see him work his magic up close but he always had the time to show you how if you asked for that bit of extra help. Would definitely recommend

It pains me to leave a negative review…
It pains me to leave a negative review as I was looking forward to the course. However, I think it's worth leaving some constructive feedback. Firstly, the course was held at element games in their main gaming room, which as you imagine is pretty loud and not particularly conducive to hearing what is being said. Also, the class size was probably about 25+ students to one tutor and with barely enough room for all of us to gather round and watch his demonstrations. I think I stood on the other side of a table watching the tutor paint a sword about 4 metres away. Just to be clear, Simon (I think) who ran the course was very professional as well as knowledgeable and did the best he could I just think there was to many of us in an illsuited environment.

I think it's necessary to give a response to your reply to my original review.
Firstly, fair enough in regards to 23 students as opposed to 25+ plus students that I stated. This was an incorrect estimation on my part. However, I still think this is a pretty sizeable number when considering the fact that people must crowd round to see the demonstrations. You state that standing at the back is entirely within my control. I'm sorry there's only so much space, unless you expect people to climb over one another. Furthermore, it is not true that no one has ever raised concerns over the class size. On the 25th of February of this year another customer made similar criticisms and suggested maybe a camera and projector to aid the demonstrations would help, I agree with this suggestion.
Moving on to your point about what venue I book is my decision, to which you are correct, it is and perhaps I should have proceeded with greater due diligence. However, I think it is reasonable that I or anyone else would expect the course to be carried out in a separate room and not in a room full of dozens of people playing table top games to be a reasonable one. Also, I think siege studios is aware of this, as Simon on the day said “we have a private room, but it's too small and too many people book the course”. So I think it's a bit disingenuous to push this back on to me as a customer when this issue is actually something Siege Studios accounted for in the first place.
So finishing up, I don't think these issues are outside Siege Studios control and replying with AI laden wall of text and pushing everything back onto me as a paying customer is a bit crap to be honest.

Look I love what you guys do at Siege, I watch your podcast every week and have periodically signed up for your patreon, which has great content on it. However, I feel it is important to address several inaccuracies in your comments to ensure clarity for others reading your review of our physical classes and tuition.
Firstly, the venue for this class was clearly listed at the point of booking on both our website and ticket. As you booked the ticket yourself, it is perfectly appropriate to assume you reviewed and accepted this information at the time. The gaming area at Element Games is a large, shared, rentable space, and as is standard practice, the venue books multiple events in parallel. This is something beyond our control, and again, was part of the venue you knowingly chose when you booked.
In terms of the number of attendees, your claim of "25+" is simply incorrect. The class had 23 students, which falls within our normal capacity for that location. We have held larger groups at Element Games on numerous occasions each year delivering multiple curriculums over the past decade without any such complaints. This is the second time anyone has raised an issue regarding class size, which we believe speaks volumes about the practical setup and delivery of our sessions by our tutors.
You also mention struggling to see from four metres away. While we always aim to ensure all students can clearly view demonstrations, our tutors actively encourage students to move closer, ask questions, and request clarification or repetition of steps at any time. This is reiterated multiple times throughout each class and supported by our open Q&A sections each day and the direct one-to-one time with the tutor across the weekend. If you chose not to make use of these opportunities, or not to ask questions or decided to remain at the back of the room without raising a concern, that was entirely within your control and your choice.
It is also worth noting that we host classes across multiple venues throughout the UK, and students are free to choose the location that suits them best. If you felt Element Games was not suitable for your preferences or learning style, it was fully within your power to book one of our other available venues which are clearly listed on our website.
While I understand your experience may not have matched your expectations, your review contains several unfounded & misleading claims. For others reading this, I encourage you to search "course" or "class" on here to view the vast amount of consistently positive & genuine reviews we have received, as well as our long-standing track record of delivering high-quality tuition & service to thousands of students over the years.
In reply to the updated response, firstly there was no AI used in my reply, I took the time personally to respond to your review & feedback. Let me apologise first, you are quite correct there was one single other review that raised about class size, one review, out of hundreds of other positive reviews of our classes from over a decade of teaching in the same venues. Now regarding class sizes, yes there is another small room that has become available in the last year at the venue. Due to the popularity of our classes not only is this not viable due to demand but also for the costings & overheads which again classes of the size we run are needed to make them viable. Now you are enlightened about that, it should be quite clear why our classes are what they are. Once again, it was your choice to not ask to see things closer in the demo's or in the one to one sections or in the Q&A's as I have already stated, which again is not in our control. I appreciate and respect your opinion, however when criticism is based on choices you make that we have no control over, our response is not crap as you put it. Excellent course ! I met an impressive teacher, who was able to clearly explain his techniques and was always supporting the students. He delivered us lots of advices, and constructive criticism when necessary.
I strongly recommend this course to whoever wants to improve their basic painting skills !

Iron Skull 2025
Overall enjoyed the event, location was great, 20 mins down the road from where we live. in fact I only knew about on the Saturday morning via social media so we just ordered tickets and rocked up at lunchtime. Good ticket proce and process. Liked the Warboot too. Nice atmosphere at the event, stunning miniatures but had to queue for almost an hour to get to see them and by the time we got to the cabinets near the stage the winners stuff was removed for judging just as we got to it! I guess the takeaway here is to arrive early to get to see everything. But I don't know if the queues were like that all day? Having to wait so long with two kids spoilt it a bit for me, but I don't know how you can avoid the queues? This was the first painting competition I've attended apart from Games Day about 15 years ago so I don't have an idea if the queues are the norm? Might go next year but earlier 🙂

Regarding your feedback on queue times: as you rightly pointed out yourself, arriving at lunchtime, during peak hours and joining the queue later in the day can naturally lead to longer wait times, especially at the most popular area, the display cabinets showing all the miniatures near the stage.
We don’t control when attendees arrive or how they choose to navigate the event, so unfortunately, queues are an inevitable part of busy attractions at any large scale show. It’s worth mentioning that many attendees who arrived earlier in the day experienced significantly shorter wait times and had full access to all entries, including the eventual winners before they were removed for judging.
We understand that waiting with children can be challenging, but again, that’s down to personal planning, and we can’t take responsibility for individual choices regarding timing or who attendees bring with them.
That said, we’re always looking to improve, and we appreciate constructive input. For future events, we’d definitely recommend arriving earlier if your goal is to see all the competition entries in full before judging commences as you’ve concluded yourself.

Relatively easy to navigate website. Think I prefer pages, than the autoload on scroll down. Also the popup declaring free pdf if you subscribe didn't work for me when I put in my email. But ultimately found what I wanted and downloaded the PDF instantly.

A great team when you can contact them
When I could get through to your team it was great but I found using the website very frustrating as the only way I seemed to be able to make contact with you was by placing and order, no general inquiries email address at all.
Since siege have now responded I would like to clarify a few points -
There is no contact us, it takes you to an order form for their painting services. The info@ email address is not listen on their website and is only provided when making a complaint etc.
If I have missed something please provide a screenshot as the website seems engineered to push you towards ordering rather than making enquiries.

Grey Knights Army Commission
My experience with Siege has been nothing short of excellent!
Despite a lengthy 15 month wait between quote & project completion, I can honestly say the wait was more than worth it.
The studio were very generous & accommodating regarding what I could afford at their warrior workshop painting level & they’ve gone above & beyond to create a beautiful army. I elected to go with a more battle damaged & “chipped” look which in tandem with their amazing paint job has made the army feel very immersive & I cannot wait to get it onto the tabletop asap!
The communication was largely very good & I spoke to lots of different key people throughout the process including a personal call from the ceo which was a nice touch!
Overall I am very impressed & I’d definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get any miniatures painted professionally.

Really enjoyed the day
Really enjoyed the day, chatting to everyone and visiting the vendors. The only downside for me was how crowded the comp display cabinets were. However in understand that that was down to how exiting the comp was. So all in all not a negative.
