I had a horrible experience with a move by simplemovinglabor. One crew arrived, started the move then left. They'd come to the wrong address. Another crew showed up late. Totally (TOTALLY) unprepared to do a move - had to borrow a pen for me to sign their paperwork. Paid for 4 movers. Got 2 movers, 1 slacker and 1 'supervisor'. Had to be convinced to move the contents of my garage and basement. Did damage to my furniture ($1,400 to have repaired). Did damage to my old house (cost me $500 at closing). Company could not have been more indifferent to the issues. Did not reply to my claim for damage. Would have filed a small claims suit, but not practical since they are located in a different state.

I don’t even know where to begin.

Everything about their so-called expertise is a total lie. Two guys showed up to fill a 16 foot storage unit which should comfortably hold a 4 bedroom home and all its furniture, but all I have is my master bedroom and half of my living room and this thing is “full”. No sense of organisation or space, they decided to fill to about 3 / 4 feet tall. The mattress is FLAT on top of some of the other furniture and they decided to put the TVs against the wall despite the fact I gave them FIVE moving blankets none of them are touching my TVs. It was raining when they started to fill everything - my couch is leather and I specifically said it needed to be wiped down but instead of giving me any time to do that they immediately put the mattress on top of it and then filled in in such a way I can’t even get to it to fix it. I have a GLASS standing desk for work which isn’t tied down in ANY WAY - NONE of the furniture is tied down to the sides of the unit AT ALL, despite the fact I gave them 4-50 foot pieces of rope and a 100 foot piece of “extra strong” rope to tie down the heavier furniture.
2 hours into a 3 hour move they finally decided to pull out a moving dolly/hand truck to make it go faster; revealing that they’ve had this the whole time.

Just terrible. The crew never showed up, no one could reach them, and SML failed to provide a substitute crew. The company took no responsibility for leaving me completely in the lurch. Their attitude: "we only have 3 crews in the area and they're not available" - even though there were four other days available before my deadline. My message to them: if you're going to offer a service and hire unreliable people to provide the service, you darn well better have plenty of backup crews.

Also, each time I had to call them I was on hold for about half an hour. And the online chat is a joke. When I explained my problem (after a long wait) the chatter told me I needed to call the number I had given up on because the wait was so long.

Is there no longer such a thing as competence in our world?
